none of those are 44's. look like 38's. all 44's I have seen have the flat plate butt welded to the weld joint on the housing for more strength.

I don't think you could get that B81 series front axle without the 29000 torque rod rear end such as a B61 or B613X. its nice, its 35-40000 nice, not 59000 nice but probably took that much to get there. -
the zip tie to the emergency brake linkage holding a hose up??

Nice truck, probably worth it. Like Larry says, cost that much just to get one that nice. Never seen a single axle with that B81 series front axle either. Wonder if someone put that under there.

I think one of my favorite discovery in old trucks is wire nuts....... welded new sides in a dump truck at work. farmer used household romex 12/2 and wire nuts for all the box lights. come to find out he did it cause hes on a farm and the mice and rats chew the wiring(household yellow romex has something in the insulation supposively to keep the rodents away)

gotta say, I'm glad you went forward, didn't lose interest and didn't leave this truck a stripped carcass left for scrap. too many people tear into an old truck and realize they are over their head and it all ends badly and we all know the outcome. I'm happy your saving this one or at least using parts from the gray truck to make another one live again

honestly, always hated that grille. like just the stainless trim surrounding the opening and the grille or stainless piece bolted to the air to air or the old school radiator with shutters and side skirts. the plastic one always looked so fake

some L and B models had the ''elephant ears'' outside mount trunion and some had the inside trunion. seems most B421's B61LST's and B70 series had the inside mount trunion for some reason -
probably show up on oldmacks for 10 times that price

most M model Ih's I ever saw had big detroits or 220 cummins in them around here and most were 4 by 4s fittined with a howe coleman or marmom herrington front axle. there were a common snowplow in the northeast. -
yup,seen a lot of R models with that style short pancake tank on them

they used that style hubcap and B model front axles up til around 72.some had a 2'' wider beam on an R model tho. the early R modelswere basically B model frames

at this point there is no tellin. after all these years ya never know. everything could be changed.best bet is to put a wrench on them. looks like larry's 237 has had an older bell added with the under mount starter and the two 5/8ths bolts in the top?

should bolt right up, main issue might be bell housing bolts, the old 673's and 711's used 3/8s bolts in the bell housing, newer 673's, 711's and 237's used 7/16ths bolts in the bell housing.

nice find. they seem to be turning up more and more lately, I guess they all haven't been exported..... I see it has the hens teeth passenger side B model fuel tank on it also

yup, low pressure warning buzzer activation switch. replaced mine twice with new style like that one since I restored my truck 9 years ago. they last about one season of driving and the switch and buzzer quits workin again. the new ones are junk. the dump trucks and fire trucks had the switch mounted there, the road tractors had them wired to the tractor protection valve behind the cab. -

18 miles west of this accident it happened again this morning at 8 am I broad daylight. kid sideswiped a tow truck, killed a dot worker and hit the ass end of a flat bed with deck in the air, used it as a ramp, went up the truck, took off the headache rack and top of cab before overturing in the median , and all the drugs fell out. unfuckin real.
