  1. I still like that old school paintjob
  2. saw that nice restored V8 Mack at Gerhartz I think last year? I was standing around right when you notice some moron opened the door too hard and put a dent right into the fender..... I bailed cause I know what I would have done in the same situation. same thing happened to me in Springfield Mass. I ALWAYS leave my b model doors open for people to look. well someone closed them. a little while later someone opened them and ran their watch right down the side of my cab below the passenger grab handle scrapin it right down to bare metal, then walking away.
  3. my opinion is anything that says the word MACK on it will eventually be worth money at some point in time. some trucks and engines a little more. we all know a B81 or B615 or B73 or B75 are rarer than an ordinary b61 but sometimes price doesn't show that. solid B models, R models and v8 engines have value but it also come down to some ordinary joe blow looking at it like this'' if I have a V8 and it breaks, can I afford to fix it'' that steers a lot of us hobby truckers away. that's another reason I hate seeing some nice truck torn down, taken apart with an idea to restore it then the person finds they are over their head and they part it out.
  4. keep in mind the batteries of today are far more advanced than the 6 volt Exide batteries that came in these trucks in the 50's and 60's. one hot group 31 1150 cold cranking amp battery will start a 673 or 711. I have put one in a B42 with a 401 and it spun that little motor over like it was nothing.
  5. the early B42's in the 50's were 6volts period. charging and starting systems. then they went to 12 volt, they had two group 4 , 6 volt batteries hooked together to make 12 volts. two 6volt batteries hooked together have more ass than one 12 volt battery.
  6. looks like an old style low pressure warning buzzer sending unit. they made all sorts of styles of them.
  7. judging by the ambulance guy standing guard over the body it looks like the dump box slid forward and crushed the cab also.
  8. I'm betting that truck had a 300 maxi dyne and not a 300+ thermodyne. If you baby it you might make a quad last, I wouldn't wanna count on my paycheck tho running a quad behind a 300
  9. looks like the b model is a B62sx or B68sx maybe? check out the chromed air cleaner.
  10. this guy still runs a whole fleet of them. some of them lookin a lil rough. so im guessin the ones out back are parts doners to.
  11. dunno exactly where they are. I see a few around town still runnin tho. I think they need to put a roof on that building....
  12. Those were an east coast think Al I think. They use to be everywhere along with the big heavy duty chrome bumper guide poles and the big 7 inch signal lights
  13. nice score. like to find me one just like that
  14. the bigger boxes, the auxillary on the triplex and quad was closer to the driver. sometimes called the ''hot stick'' cause most of the time it gets used more...... all the smaller TRD77 and TRQ77 series trans used with the flathead gassers had the main closer to the driver. no clue why. the gassers run in the 3000rpm range. they are all tempermental and everyone is different. they aren't as forgiving as a diesel if you change the rear end gears to higher ones to get more speed. sometimes it screws up the smoothness of the shift.
  15. if he has a 401 gas job he has a TrQ770 quad and the main is toward the driver and auxillary is toward the pass side. splittin can be done with the clutch but shifting the main in the smaller gas job flatheads usually requires the clutch. totally different operating RpM also. gotta really rev a gas job up to shift it around 3000rpm
  16. make for a COLD long winter in a drafty old B model....
  17. need to change the flywheel and clutch to put a quad behind a 237 that had a 6 speed. also the clutch linkage, driveshaft length, find sticks..etc... about the only think you might have in favor is it MIGHT bolt up if you have 7/16 holes in the quad bell instead of the old style bell on the quad with 3/8ths holes.
  18. 711 sleeves and pistons are rare as hens teeth. if it is NOS I would be willing to bet its not a 711. I have seen 711 sleeves and piston sets go at auction for $500 a hole....
  19. I have wonderer about the head gaskets before myself. my 711 is a newer one and is stamped END707XXXX in the block. it has the newer 237 style head gaskets with fire rings but NO grooves cut in the head to accept the fire ring. it has a leaky head gasket when I got it, ordered a new one from Mack with the same part number that was on it and replaced and retorqued and set the valves. the fire ring had me wondering how the hell the rest of the gasket could seat if there was no groove for the firering tho. but it was remanned before I got it and has 10,000 miles on it since I have had it and it runs fine.
  20. isnt 711 heads the same as 237 and 673's? I know my 711 has been fitted with 237 fire rings and 237 head gaskets. same part number and all
  21. some also had aluminum steering box tubes, and no front brakes. most only had one fuel tank also, usually a round 75 gallon one
  22. kinda like the green hubs myself. just different. kinda also like the wind deflector on the roof. reminds me for some reason of Roadway or something. almost looks like it came off an old Brigadeer or something.
