  1. just take one axle nut off, the cone/wedge should be under the axle nut. im know they used the cheaper axles and housings in some B42's just not sure what the cutoff was.
  2. yup, 4.60 is the ratio. usually has an R in front of it or some actually say 'ratio'. looks like that ones been reworked with different gears and someone made it a 4.60 as the numbers looks scratched out and restamped. id probably just change the whole housing. if you have the original rear in your B42, it most likely has the smaller brake lining anyways. if the other rear came from a diesel it usually has the 7'' lining.
  3. $41.29?? is that hourly??? didn't know there were rooms that cheap anymore.....
  4. does it have a check engine light or def tank Mike????
  5. Rad5291 is the housing series. it usually meant the difference between 6'' or 7'' brake lining, aluminum backing plates and some had the cheaper axle without the centering cones behind the axle nuts. the rear ratio is stamped on the driver side of the hogs head below the round side cover. usually has an R in front of it. id say with an overdrive trans on 22'' rubber you need a high 4.xx to low 5.xx ratio. most single axle b models I have seen with directtrans and 22'' rubber had 4.66 or 4.62 ratio. you gotta watch changing out the hogs head because if you have the cheaper housing, it wont have the webbing inside to support the ring gear.the better rear housings were the Rad508 or Rad512
  6. I agree, B model to R model ratio must be about 5 to 1 on survivors
  7. must be a 285 . I don't think they put the 300+ with the 6 speed and if they did it would be an RD612 not an 88. Got the wrong air cleaner for a 300+ to. looks like a 300 econodyne to me. Everyone wants their 285 and 300 to be a 300+....
  8. Pat Archerie's (sp?) old truck?
  9. that green single axle LJ or LF has just the right ''look'' to it also. I think the old bias ply tires help it out to.
  10. another interesting topic, not to hyjack this one but somewhere I read that Armaducci's single axle Maroon B81 is really a B80 and it came from the factory with a 413 Chrysler industrial. I would have never thought that would be an option, a small gas engine...
  11. yup. haven't talked to him in a while. bought the remains of my R model off him. he is definitely a collector. has all sorts of B model parts sorted, shelved and inventoried!
  12. the good old days....
  13. nice truck. I kinda like that paint scheme
  14. saw that truck for sale. was for sale for a bit. looks like a nice score as others say.
  15. $400...... headed for scrap soon. ill use that sellers trick that I dispise haha
  16. 300,000?? hell that's brand new. there are some out there with 2 million on them..
  17. yup, exactly what I was thinkin..
  18. I bet the Check Engine light is still on....
  19. wonder why Trucktoerfest is in Sept this year? screws up my schedule.
  20. theres two different style shutters, the ones with ribs and rubber and the smooth style like Larry posted pictures of. I have actually sandblasted both then sanded them out. if your careful it doesn't hurt anything. the rubber ones are about as rare as hens teeth to find a set not all bent to hell
  21. must be an B73/B75 with L model cab...
  22. vintage scissor high lift coal body. I believe its a Marion. Maybe 8' or might be 9' long. works and lifts but is rusty. bed is solid as are sides but definitely needs some sandblasting and welding. its definitely salvageable. $500 B/O .
  23. should be and looks like a 711 in that U. hard to tell tho but it looks like it only has a 5 speed and that wouldn't be right with a 673 or 711....???
  24. whats wrong with the 3/4 inch black pipe with a cap on the end and weld it to the bumper and stripe it like mine??
  25. yup a Delco 21SI alternator works. can even use your original pulley. might have to make a new adjustment bracket or shorter or longer belts. do yourself a favor and try to get on that's NOT from Napa or been rebuilt. get one from Mack or a heavy truck parts place. a regular Chevy one wire alternator will work to but might have trouble finding a 2 groove pulley for one.
