  1. the 864 is shorter, but wider so didn't they move the cab to the side to get more room for the driver in the U model?
  2. never drove a newer one, only 18 speed Mack I ever drove had two sticks but a local Milk company has 18 speeds I think in all of their visions. I know an old guy that works for the that probably drove ever truck ever made and i have heard what pretty much what everyone else says, they are stiff shifting. I think he also says some trucks have 13 or 15 speeds and some have 18 speeds. says if you change trucks often, it makes you think.
  3. the newer Ford Super dutys are the same Larry. paint will fall off the oil pan and then you got a leak....
  4. same here but the 676 numbers get me. I cant remember if the 300+'s had the number stamped in the cover or just a stamped tag.
  5. ETAZ673 should be stamped in the front edge of the block by the timing cover if its a 300+. never seen one with anything but a 10 speed Roadrangers but there were other options I believe
  6. yup that punk was runnin around like a chicken, pissed off that all the trucks were sold already. it did actually start 5-10 min late. only know that because I brought my better half and she was not happy. she goes wtf, you drag me here and its starts late. the book says 11 oclock, start the damn auction! I was biddin on the injection pumps but bailed out when they got over the $300 mark a piece for 6 of them... im a small guy. cant afford that. what did the 358 orange Brock with asphalt tank go for??
  7. big guy was there from cherry hill in a bright orange shirt, I do remember him. I know I cant take him haha
  8. glad to know that nothin went for scrap. scrappers were in full force.even the B75 got saved??? some punk kid showed up twards the end who was a 'salvager' he was pissed that all the trucks were already auctioned off.....who got the 237 injection pumps? anyone know?
  9. yup looks like the cab mounts are due. don't overtighten them when you put them back in. the bolt should be just tight enough so the bottom rubber bulges out like the one in your one picture. I think the radiators are one piece. cant remember now, been a while. the R models are a lot more forgiving. most B models I have worked on always had shims on one or all cab mounts to get the hood to fit the cowl right.
  10. wasn't it also to get room to stuff the 864 V8 under the hood and still have the 90'' bbc?? kinda makes you wonder. the government was all screwed up back then with screwin with the bbc. Without them there never would have been a B46, B65,B67 or a concave truck period or maybe not even a U model to get what they ''thought'' was the right length. now we're haulin 53' and 60' trailers, doubles, triples, you name it
  11. and it better have long ears a $50 bucks
  12. went to the auction today. lots of parts, lots went reasonably to. the cream of the crop was the red and yellow AC. I didn't get a pic but it was in the flyer, it was not restored but was painted many years ago. it went for $19500. the same guy also bought the Blue 361 Brockway, I think it had a 671 in it, it was a 361. was fixable. cant remember what it went for. he also bought a 1918 or so chain drive Brockway that was restored a while ago. it went for $13500. the 358 Brock I think might have went to scrappers, I didn't get to see it get auctioned. the B75T bucket truck was rough. cab was shot along with all the sheetmetal. it went for $1000 and I wanna say it went to a good home but I think the scrappers got it. the Sterling Mixer I think they kept. the gray FT chaindrive went for $19000. the one Ab went for $1500 with no engine or transi think. the other one went for $4500.i lost track of a few. A brand new DM cab with doors and wiring harness brought $3500. there was a whole pallet full of Garrett and Schwitzer turbos that went reasonable, $500 or so a box . 6 rebuilt injection pumps in the wooden boxes for 237/300's went for around $500 a piece. I was outbid on that one haha.
  13. millions of them on ebay. only worth what someone is willin to pay. some people seem to think hey are made from solid gold. I wont pay more than $50 bucks for a bulldog period
  14. 63 bags? I hope you bought 30 pack of beer to go with that. that's usually what it takes me to get thru a big sandblasting job. its even better if you had a few to many the night before and have a bad headache...
  15. im wondering why a B61 with a 673 turbo which wasn't available til about late 58 or early 59 would still have a 5 speed with 3 speed brownie when the quadbox and tripex were available....
  16. whos that on the far left in the gray shirt and sunglasses Al??? he has the ,'' oh god do I have to be seen in a picture with these guys??'' or the '' I secretly have ice cold beer in my cooler and this is holding me up'' look on his face.... haha
  17. Black Beauty use to be 3 bucks a bag, then 7 bucks, then 13 now I think its around 20 by us last big job I did, I had someone else do the blasting...
  18. nothing better than tearing it down to the rails and starting over. that's the part I like, mostly the teardown and building the frame, putting trans, engine front and rear end, after that I lose interest, especially the little details...... lookin good
  19. wow the saddle and spring you would think was Mack if you didn't see the trunion. how the hell did Mack let them get away with that??
  20. wow, never saw a suspension so close to a Mack camelback..... thought they were patented thru eternity
  21. this last pic made me cringe a little at the show. the nice B81 Bigdog had for sale about a year ago on here. looks like they started restoration, cut the Cresci box off with a torch, ran over the hood with a D8 and put it back on , then lost interest..... hopefully it doesn't end up as a parts truck, was pretty solid, even had a nice pretty non spread frame.
  22. didn't go this year with my truck. last year got stuck in non moving Boilermaker race traffic in 97 degree heat in the cab of the B model. neither me or the better half was in good mood........
  23. nice show for a first one. few pictures we took.
  24. some of us don't have nor want Assbook....... sorry too much drama
