  1. wow J. thought they had only 4 B models, didn't know they had 7 runnin at that time.
  2. Red Star express had a bunch of B65's then later R models
  3. I know off topic but some of the B models did have an extra leaf on the ditch side to take up the gap from the crown of the road.
  4. I have seen R models with splayed frame rails with both straight shot steering shaft to box connections and have seen the one with weird quirky angle you are referring to, don't really know the reason.
  5. GTI or Green Truckin Inc , Amsterdam Ny is a bulk milk hauler. they have been all Mack as long as I can remember from R models to Ch's to new Visions and they are all a cool green color. although they do have about 2 (cough) Peterbilts in the fleet now that I heard the boss bought just cause two of his drivers wanted them.
  6. Teals Express, Watertown Ny, never seen them with anything but Red Macks, and BEAT red CH Macks a that
  7. TRQ770 is an 18 speed baby quad. TRQ77 is a slow 20 speed direct. one of out B42's also has a 14 speed baby quad in it. forget the number. they use to pull an end dump with 24+ ton of coal on it out of PA with that R410S with 413 and baby quad. said it was an animal. course gas was probably 29 cents a gallon to!
  8. isn't that the Pabst Blue Ribbon R model Ray?? wow id love to have that since its one of my favorites beers haha
  9. does anyone know how to let the clutch out GENTLY or apply the brakes? evidentally all their skills revolve around using the jake brake. that's just the crew I want ''transporting '' my truck.
  10. my B613 had the wedge block and a straight 5 with a 3 speed brownie box installed. they removed the 673 turbo and triplex to do this, god knows why. also my grandfather had a brand new R410S with a blue block 413 wedge motor and an 18 speed double over baby quad. the guys said it went like a bastard back then. they said it would run with a R200 549 IH
  11. wow that is a nice Magnum Superdog there Vision. think we can photoshop Trigger in there next to it? the Bandits original '77 6.6 Trans Am?? think they would look good side by side haha
  12. the guy built it that way. don't think it was an original R410. I talked to him at Balston Spa one year. he said he worked his ass off to make that 413 work in that R model. I told him I have the whole setup out of my B model that nobody seems to want and id sell the whole kid cheap. R410's that had the Chrysler wedge block in them had '' Blue Blocks'' in them also, not Industrial red ones
  13. 66-72 usually had full workin shutters on most R models I have seen. after 73 I have seen the sunken style and the style that bolted to the air to air. never really paid much attention but now im wondering.
  14. im liking that dark Blue R model that Milkman posted. when did Mack stop using that 'sunken' style grille and start using the cheasy one that bolted to the air cooler? our 82 at work has the one bolted to the air to air. Mack must have used about a half dozen different styles of the R model grille over the years
  15. the B65 was a whole different animal from a B67 or b61. a B61 with a concave cab was still a B61. a B67 had the shorter aluminum hood with only the one short stainless strip on the side. a B65 had all the same hood chrome as a B61 but it was all crammed in. I believe the hood was 3'' shorter on a B65. Red Star Express ran almost mostly B65's. they had the weird bigger square fuel tank like St Johnsbury truckin ran also. it was bigger around and almost dragged the ground. either way a B67 with a factory turbo is a rare one .
  16. wow is that a sweet lookin R model Keg1. something about those older R's just had a look to them.
  17. the B421 was a lighter version of the B42. it usually had a single frame with fishplates, the cheaper 34,000 rears with flat axle caps, underslung three leaf walkin beams and wedge brakes. I have seen some of the later ones 64-66 with F517 front axles tho which leads me to believe mack was using up parts or the guy ordered it that way to get more weight on the front axle. the 401/402 was a good engine but was generally overworked and with the little oil bath air cleaner usually lasted about 100,000 miles if you were lucky without a rebuild. my grandfather had a single axle B42 that pulled a lowboy with a D8 cat on it for D.W. Winkleman once in a while in the off season when they weren't haulin coal out of Pa to Ny, id say they were askin a lot out of that little flathead and baby duplex.
  18. about 5 mpg on a good day. the 291 331 and 401 all used the same head I believe. the 402 has two more head studs in the corners. B42's are not all that scarce or rare but are desireable for the sheetmetal. the gasjobs didn't shake and chafe like the diesels. I think all the flathead Mack gassers were Cotinentals design. I think only the overhead 438, 464, 540 and 707 were Macks design. we have repowered many B42's with diesels and changed the motor mounts and rears. you better have a B61 parts truck if you plan on putting a 237 in a B42 and if you don't have at least 11 leafs in the front spings it will be a road sniffer when your done. most B42's had 8 leaves in the front. the heavier spec ones had 9 or 11. some of the really light ones had the cheaper slipper springs like the B20 and B30's had.
  19. im thinkin a runnin driving truck could be bought for the askin price of that one but like they said there is an ass for every seat
  20. usually a 3/4 impact gun will snap the studs right off and make more work for you. I have used PB blaster on exhaust manifold bolts before that wouldn t budge, came back three days later and screwed them off by hand. amazing stuff, has some kind of catalyst in it to eat at the rust.
  21. seen that one pic many times. always try to stop at Penn Cann either going to or coming from Macungie, although fuel is usually a few cents cheaper across the road, Penn Cann has the best milkshakes in Pa
  22. yup agree Mike. and be careful with a torch around the inflated tire!
  23. cant find it on ebay
  24. spray some pb blaster on them. let them soak for a few days. they are coarse thread so they usually come right off. don't take the back ones all the way off without knockin the wedges loose first tho!
  25. yup, agree, use to be able to go to a truck show and find some good NEW die cast. now I seems all that's there is the older stuff that no one wants they they are tryin to sell off.
