  1. Awesome! What is he hauling there?
  2. Leon, those are neat trucks. Were they originally sold (or made for export) to the Netherlands, or were they US trucks that eventually made their way over there?
  3. FP Diesel (Federal Mogul) has a pretty extensive line of parts for Allis Chalmers. Here's the link to the catalog: http://www.fme-cat.com/digiPub21/FP_Diesel_-_Heavy_Duty_Engine_Parts_and_Kits/index.htm. I'm sure I had seen somewhere on one of the aftermarket parts places websites that they had several specifications listed, but haven't been able to find it. Wait...think I just did. Try here: http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/1/7/176-allis-chalmers-d21-engine.html
  4. To hell with the D.O.T. physical, how do you keep from needing an overweight permit?
  5. Hi Rob, I think the Delco are usually lower in price. I've seen problems with the Leece alternators on newer trucks overcharging and burning out sensitive electronics on a few occaisions, something I haven't seen happen with the Delco. The Delco on the other hand seems to have a higher rate of replacement, but that could be just a matter of them being used more commonly. Keep in mind this is on newer chassis with quite a bit more electrical apparatus drawing power and with higher heat rejection from the engine.
  6. There was a tow company around here that had an all wheel drive Oshkosh wrecker that they used for their off road and heavy duty calls. I dropped a trailer off of a truck at work one day, not knowing that it was loaded with 4" rock. I think that was the first and only time I had a customer supply a loaded trailer when complaining about low power, too bad I didn't know it was loaded. When I disconnected the trailer and started to roll out from under it the trailer sank lower than the truck would go, so we had to call the Oshkosh in to pick it up. Damned thing left puddles of oil everywhere.
  7. I looked at the life/trip data from a 2004 CV713 yesterday and it showed to have been getting 6.3 mpg over it's life. The truck has an AI 460, T318LR, and CRD200 series rear ends with 5.02 ratio. I was pretty impressed with that kind of fuel economy. This truck is a body load water truck that sees a lot of off road use. We had a 2011 GU813 demo truck set up for the same application but spec'd with the MP8 505, Allison transmission, and C150 series rear ends with 4.80 ratio that was only hitting around 5.2 mpg
  8. If your truck has a water cooled transmission cooler it might be leaking there.
  9. If you can't find one here or from another source they are available from Mack via Mascot truck parts as rebuilt units.

  11. And no air ride either!
  12. You might look at these http://www.stemcokaiser.com/.
  13. The 1991 tuneup specs say operating range 1300-1900 rpm. Boost is quoted at 18-26 psi.
  14. We used to have a guy that came through once in a while in an old Peterbilt 359 that he had put together. Every time he came through the truck had a different motor, one time a Cummins, the next time a Caterpillar, so I guess he couldn't come up with a permanent throttle control. One day I crawled into the cab and he had a steak knife sitting next to the throttle pedal. When I asked why he said it was his cruise control, he'd just prop it against the floor and use it to lock the pedal in position.
  15. That's a lot of nights in the box.
  16. I came across this website: http://nutrias.org/photos/firedept/firephoto.htm There are a ton of nice pictures of various fire trucks, some Mack, some not. I didn't look all the way through the pictures but there are some nice looking trucks shown there.
  17. That is totally chickenshit, but that is the way they tend to handle things now and it really sucks, especially when the problem is a sensor that probably doesn't cost them more than about $75. My advice is to keep screaming until someone from upstairs hears you and hopefully does something about it.

    Snow!

Two days before New Year Day we started getting snow. It snowed for two days straight, but only about 6-8" stuck to the ground. Jan. 1 and 2 the temperatures dropped well below zero, Sunday morning it was -28 with the wind factored in.
  19. I don't know what the trailer was, but it wasn't loaded very heavy. I think he was just picking up some wheels and maybe some brake parts.
  20. If they're spin on filters I would think probably that they are 485GB3191B, but 3232 and 3236 filters should fit too and are supposed to provide better filtering.
  21. FMI 5 is indicating that the circuit was open. Since that happened when it was unplugged that makes sense. It could be something like I described before with the boost pressure or it could just be an issue with the connector on the harness. It seems like there are a lot of problems with the MP engine harnesses fretting and making poor contact. If you see a kind of green dust in the connectors or sensors try cleaning them out with an electrical contact cleaner and make sure that the harness isn't flexing around too much with the air coming off of the fan.
  22. RW613 001808 shows to have been built with Mack 92/93 differentials and ST rear suspension, other than that it looks like it has probably been left pretty much the way it was built.
  23. FMI 2 (and I think 11 is pretty close to the same description) is data erratic, intermittent or incorrect. I think a boost leak might cause those FMIs to set or maybe more boost than expected due to colder air mass. We've had a couple that started setting this fault out of the blue but I can't remember what FMI was being set. We ended up changing the sensor.
  24. Randy pulls in the mighty B61 known as Killer B and asks Rob to have a look at the paint on the hood. Rob takes a look at Killer B's paint job and quickly diagnoses the problem The powerful Mack V-8 modified by a mentality not of mortal man but of mighty machine roars to life. The RPMs increase, the lights flicker momentarily and then increase in brilliance, and a bizarre hum fills the air Their account settled up, Randy, the Sheriff, and Spot leave Rob and the Big Top Paint Shop, but not before Spot has time to ponder...
