  1. I agree, I think you need to go to work for Mack Trucks and teach them how to do that with their current engines!
  2. It sounds like your mechanic thinks the noise may be coming from a bearing, maybe the clutch release bearing or the pilot bearing in the flywheel. When you changed out the rear ends did you remove the wheel bearings and clean and inspect them? They share the same oil as the rear ends, so the debris that was found in the rear end was also running through the wheel bearings. I have seen several geared components rebuilt by "rebuilders" that were as bad or worse than the component that was removed.
  3. A few years ago my boss borrowed a Bobcat from a friend to do some work at the shop. While the Bobcat was sitting in the yard someone broke in and stole it and a bunch of other stuff. About a year later the police, during a raid for some unrelated investigation, found an assortment of stolen property. The Bobcat was among the stolen property that was found, it was recovered and returned to it's rightful owner. The best part was that while it was missing the thieves had done a lot of work to it, repainted it, and put a new set of tires on it! I wish you luck in getting your property back and hopefully it's in better shape than when it was taken.

  10. Found some info for you. The MP8 Export engine is designed to meet Euro III (no VGT, no EGR, no DPF) or Euro IV (no DPF). Also, the only models available for export are the GU8, CXU, and MRU. Does anyone know if the Australian models are exported?

  18. Basically it means the modules lost power while the VECU was still reading voltage at the ignition. Usually it's caused by bad batteries or loose connections.

  21. The mass flow sensor measures the amount of exhaust gas flowing into the intake. The sensor is mated to a control module that is mounted towards the engine block on the backside of the alternator bracket. Before changing any of the parts or removing anything I would try to read the fault code numbers off of the dash by pressing and holding the button in the center of the instrument cluster for 4-5 seconds, that way you can make sure of what is setting the fault. If I remember correctly the pipe/sensor/module assembly that I changed out was setting a fault because of an open circuit in the mass flow module. The EGR cooler is not difficult to clean, Mack said to soak the cooler in CLEAN, UNUSED Zep Dyna solvent, and then to steam clean in reverse direction of gas flow. The procedure works pretty well. I take the pressure nozzle off of the pressure washer and run hot water through it at low pressure. After cleaning it needs to be hung vertically and blown dry with air and allowed to drain any moisture inside of it.
  22. You have an '04 emissions engine. The few that we have in this area haven't been a problem for the most part. The mass flow sensor/module and pipe have been changed out on a few of them.

  24. Dogs pulled me out the door before I could obtain my secret agent photography equipment. I was actually looking for a couple of Superliners that might or might not be around the area, good thing I didn't find them.
  25. Saw a Western Star twin steer axle, tridem drive, sleeper cab 2010 emissions truck this morning and failed to get any pictures of it. Transporting another Western Star someplace.
