  1. In the commercial that is posted on the Mack website does it looks like they have the MP8 mated with an SST transmission? A few Years before they introduced the Granite military trucks (just before they discontinued the RB chassis) they were working on an electric/diesel hybrid vehicle for the US Air Force. I think they later had one they were building for the US Army. I have personally seen some of the GU813E chassis (no pictures though) and the engines are void of emissions control items. Looked back at the video and saw that it isn't an MP8, it's an E-Tech, with the SST bolted to it.
  2. Yep, sounds like the sorta thing that'd make a Bulldog bug a hound.
  3. Check this out, from Macks website: http://macktrucks.com/default.aspx?pageid=2056
  4. I've noticed that this thread seems to pop up by itself every now and then.
  5. Back in the 1980's Renault obtained majority stock ownership in Mack Trucks, which it allowed to operate semi-autonomously. In 2000, Renault was purchased by volvo, which effectively gave volvo ownership of Mack.
  6. But if you look at the worst period recorded, 1980, we had a Democrat President (Carter, 1977-1980) as well as two Democrat controlled Congresses (1977-1978 and again 1979-1980). According to the chart Congress was controlled by Democrats in both houses from 1955-1982, which time period I believe encompasses all of the largest increases in the index.
  7. Just a hunch, but that doesn't seem like the best idea.
  8. What horsepower is it? Any additional symptoms, such as hard starting? Does your truck have the VIP screen with the stalk switch? If so cycle through to the diagnostics screen and get the active and inactive fault code numbers and post them. There should be an MID number, a PID, PSID, or PPID and a FMI number for each fault. Most of the MP8 engines I have seen are 485 hp, the lowest rating for the MP8 with US07 emissions is 415 hp. The most common problem with these engines has been leaking injector cups. There are revised parts now available to repair this problem.
  9. Kingpin wear is measured with a dial indicator at the top and bottom of the spindle, parallel to the axle against the bushing/bearing bore. For a Mack FAW axle the total indicator travel (measurement from top bore plus measurement from bottom bore) should not be more than .015. I think for Rockwell/Meritor and Eaton axles the specification is .012"
  10. If the truck rolled there is also a good chance the EECU got crushed at the same time. Get a hold of Mackpro68, I think he's over in Kentucky.
  11. You've got a future in the movie business.
  12. Just a guess here, but maybe one of these. FM-Series Years Production Run FM711 1979-1979 5 FM712 1978-1980 140 FM767 1978-1979 130 FM785 1978-1979 17 FM786 1977-1981 355
  13. Pretty neat looking truck. I noticed the steering wheel has been replaced with a newer two spoke type. What is the grate/expanded steel type of material in front of the windshield?
  14. Awhile back I saved a picture from someones gallery that was shown in the random images which I used as a desktop background. The picture was of the hood emblems on the side of a B model. I finally found the picture, it belongs to RModelMackFan.
  15. Here is a page of shifting instructions from the T2080 transmission. The air shift system operates the same way on both transmissons. Shifting Instructions.pdf
  16. We had a customer that bought a used CH613 (probably 2000-2001 model year) with an Eaton autoshift. It wasn't very long before we pulled it and replaced it with a manual transmission. There's a big difference between automatic and automated, I for one am curious what will happen once Mack introduces the volvo iShift (relabeled mDrive) transmission. I think they may have it out now, can't remember the production dates.
  17. A few years back we had a bunch of trucks with Chalmers rear suspensions. The torque rod bracket on top of the axle housing would break off of the top of the housing and cause all sorts of catastrophic shit to happen. I'm talking about one housing pointed straight up in the air and the other pointed backwards, drivelines entangled in air hoses and frame members type of stuff. I think Spicer finally admitted that the weld on the housing was of insufficient size and quality, and they supplied us with specifications for the proper welding procedure (for that bracket/joint). We had a certified welder come in to replace the brackets as needed. We were able to get new brackets for the housings which then had to be welded on, so, hypothetically, it is possible to weld to the housings. I would say a certified welder would be the best judge of what to do in this hypothetical situation.
  18. Automatic transmissions are getting more and more popular, especially with large fleets. I suppose fleets are increasingly spec'ing trucks with automatics is that they can throw any driver into the truck. I know a few owner/operators that have changed to Allison transmissions and they swear by them.
  19. The speedometer sensor is on the output bearing housing of the transmission. If you have a Mack transmission the sensor should be screwed all the way against the yoke and then backed out one full turn. Do not overtighten the jam nut on the sensor (15 ft lbs. max) as it will crack the outside of the sensor. If you have a Mack transmission make sure that the yoke retaining bolt is not loose or missing.
  20. I think most of the problem people have with it is that they don't expect to see two sticks, let alone three. Just takes some getting used to. I think the truck was originally owned by one of the big oil field service outfits for moving natural gas compressors and the like into locations with pretty bad conditions.
  21. I think we're on our sixth 2010 truck, so far so good. Far fewer problems than we saw on the 2007's
  22. Most people I've seen try to drive it have a hard time with it. Here's a picture of it, newly painted.
  23. TRXL107 6 speed transmission with 1241 Spicer auxillary transmission in an R686S chassis. Here's a picture of the cab shift stick arrangement.
  24. There are still alot of them used for concrete pumpers and for refuse roll off container trucks. Haven't seen any new compactor MR chassis' lately though.
  25. Well then, we'll all be waiting for you to replace those pictures of the Rawhide on the road with pictures of the LFT on the road! Congratulations Bigen
