  1. I thought about that too, but I managed to control the impulse region of my brain long enough to realize that would be too much for my delicate constitution and dainty inside parts to handle if I contemplated it any longer.
  2. I feel a growing sense of unease in the gastrointestinal area of my physiology....JEEZUS that is gross
  3. Those are some stubby little pups, I think my tool box is longer than that.
  4. And that's where lard comes from....now you know the rest of the story. (That's a Paul Harvey quote, at least the last part is, maybe the first part too.)
  5. A link for those interested: http://vandynesuperturbo.com/technology.html
  6. Much of the weight difference will depend on whether or not it has Mack components. It sounds like it would be a little heavier than most fleet spec trucks, and, assuming that it is, I would guess that it would be slightly heavier. The front axle will probably be the same beam as the 12K version with heavier springs and maybe different hubs (due to larger wheel bearing sizes). On the driver's door of that truck I think there should be a certification of the chassis weight.
  7. Sorry to hear that. It's definitely underrated until you need it done, but when the toilet backs up you'll pay just about any price! After knocking a whole in the cleanout with a rental snake, I got tired of going to the rental places to rent one and then having to rush to get done with it, so I bought a 100' x 3/8" motorized snake. Didn't feel too bad about having to do the job anyway (it allowed my mind to wander into places it hasn't gone in awhile), as it gave me time to compose this beautiful piece of poetry!
  8. A man goes into the hospital for a vasectomy. Before the procedure the nurse comes in and takes his vitals, then tells him to take all of his clothes off. When he is fully undressed she instructs him to lie down on the table. The man obeys. The nurse then takes all of her clothes off and climbs on top and has her way with him. Upon the completion of the act the man catches his breath and asks what that was all about. The nurse informs the patient that studies have shown that before a vasectomy if the man has an ejaculation, he will be more relaxed and that the vasectomy is easier for the surgeon to locate and sever. The nurse then wheels the patient to the operating room. While they are going down the hall the patient sees six men in a room masturbating. Curious, the man asks "What are they doing in there?" The nurse responds, "They are getting vasectomies too, but you have Blue Cross and they have Obama Care."
  9. And the landscape will be crawling with wild packs of these mutated folks: (Sorry to make light of the subject matter, but I couldn't help myself, I really like that picture)
  10. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about. I think what you are refering to may be spoke wheels. I've always heard them called Dayton wheels, but I guess technically they are hub piloted. I don't know if they are still available on new trucks. If they are I would suspect that Mack only offers them on the drive axles, as Meritor manufactures the Mack FXL series front axles which has unitized hubs/wheel ends.
  11. You used to be able to get parts books for a specific chassis. After books came microfiche. When computers came along they got rid of almost all of the old books and the microfiche (strangely enough they still have the microfiche machine). If those books/microfiche were available I think I would have a Burgess Meredith/Twilight Zone type of breakdown
  12. I've never seen these before, so any information you have afterwards would be informative. Where is it being installed? If you can, give a comparison to the Hendrickson Airtek. Hope it works out well for you.
  13. Those are some truly astute observations. Tradesmen always seem to have a way of getting right to the point. I bow before your uncle's wisdom, luckily I was uphill, I didn't bite my fingernails, and Friday was payday, so I had money for supplies.
  14. Normal.
  15. Yes, hub piloted disc wheels (using M22 studs with flanged nuts) are standard.
  16. Some new trucks are still spec'd with stud piloted wheels. I would assume this makes parts stocking, tooling, and the like more convenient for fleet owners with older vehicles.
  17. They will only have to be reset. The procedure for resetting the poppets will depend upon the type of steering gear that you have. You will need to find out the make and model of the gear and then locate the manufacturers service information for that gear. This will need to be done before adjusting the stops, that way the poppets will be pushed to the proper location inside the gear on the first stop to stop turn you make after adjusting the stops.
  18. The turning radius is adjusted with the stop bolts as you said. The purpose of the stops is to stop the wheel from turning and hitting the chassis, however this must occur after the steering gear pressure relief poppets have relieved pressure (otherwise you run the risk of having hydraulic pressure from the steering system acting against the steering levers when they cannot move, resulting in broken and bent steering parts). There should be a minimum of 1" between the tire and any fixed chassis component when adjusted and 1/2" between the tire and any moving chassis components (such as the pitman arm). It sounds like maybe the steering gear has something wrong with it or has been tampered with previously.
  19. I had a similar thought earlier today. If a police officer were suspected of some inpropriety, his previous work would be scrupulously combed over and checked for evidence of misdeeds. I think the same should apply to legislators. If a representative or senator is found to have commited a crime, all laws, bills, etc., etc. that that lawmaker was involved in, all the way back to voting/not voting on an item, must be reconsidered.
  20. Thank you OD. Hopefully, very soon, I am patiently awaiting it's arrival in my mailbox as I type this, I will be getting an invitation to be a guest lecturer at M.I.T.
  21. I think I have this equation right: plus minus plus equals There's no telling what might happen if was substitued in there. Might get this
  22. Can't remember if this is the right format for one or not, at this point in my existence I don't really care. Snaking out drain pipes A slightly broken cleanout Charlie Brown flys kite
  23. The service bulltein that 9speed referenced require the installation of an additional ground wire to the instrument cluster. It sounds like what you had happening with your trucks was a ground problem as well. The cab harness on the right side of the dash has several relays that power and activate various parts of the truck's electronics. If these relays do not power up properly it can cause all sorts of problems ranging from cluster drop out to no start situations, as well as the dreaded 9-2 fault code. By cutting the wires loose and providing more slack in the harness you probably rectified a problem with poor contact at one or more of the relays.
  24. Careful there OD, it might be EL CHUPACABRA. http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/93844?fp=1
  25. I figured there was probably already one floating around out there, didn't find one, but I did find this (related to topic):
