  1. I did forget to say that the guages (except the speedometer and tach) can be replaced. Also, if you don't have some guages (for instance boost pressure) and you install a cluster that does the guage will not work unless the VECU is reprogrammed to enable that guage.
  2. In my experience the guage cluster is generally at fault, but there is no real way to test it prior to replacing it. You can do a manual guage sweep by doing the following: Depress and hold the Mode button for longer than 2 seconds (with the ignition ON and the engine NOT running) to initiate a self-diagnostic routine. The routine includes positioning all gauges (with the exception of the air pressure gauge) to the 12 o'clock position, activating all indicator lights and LCD segments for 5 seconds and activating an audible alarm for 2.5 seconds. The seatbelt light is controlled by the circuit board in the guage cluster, so it's activation indicates that the cluster is bad. It's not difficult to replace, requires no programming, only tools needed are #27 and #8 torx drivers. Unfortunately there are no servicable parts inside other than the bulbs.
  3. Here's a piping diagram that may help but I'm not sure how accurate it will be. I circled the quick release valve in red, I wonder if it might be blocked keeping air in the circuit. R series without ABS with Full Trailer Connection.pdf
  4. If they'll let you do it before buying it I would pull the inspection cover off of the transmission and take a visual and see what it looks like inside. Check the clutch release lever clevis pin hole too. If it's worn excessively it will feel like there's free travel but the clutch forks will actually be pulled up against the release bearing.
  5. Sounds like the clutch is out of adjustment, does it have any free travel? Any problem with the operation of the clutch otherwise (noise, hard to push, etc)?
  6. Sorry, I thought you were just working on it for someone else. Let me think about it and I'll see if I can come up with something.
  7. Make sure the correct n/o or n/c switch is installed. Make sure the switch is good. If you have a trolley bar make sure it isn't pulled part of the way down or leaking air to the service brakes. Do you have a wiring diagram?
  8. I personally have a long and illustrious history with mexican food but have never experienced anything on par with Rob's chili dog blowout.
  9. Sounds like you're talking about a sudden, simultaneous, and sporadic flexation of the diaphragm coupled with a catastrophic relaxing of the involuntary muscle system in the area of the anal sphincter (SMFP syndrome). Gastroenterology Specialist rhasler
  10. These radios are junk, hope this gets you by until you get one of those smooth ABF units. Setting the Clock on the Radio.pdf
  11. Here is a link to the State of New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission Website. There is an opinion poll there, tell them what you think. Also under the exemptions tab there is some information regarding collector and historic trucks. http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Inspections/Understanding.htm
  12. Just out of curiosity, what software did you use here? It came out very clear.
  13. I'm pretty sure Metal Machine Music has the "brown sound" in there somewhere. Put it on and everyone scatters like they had to change their shorts/pants. Maybe that's why there's an upholstery van in the picture with the purple car. 'Nuff said?
  14. You could try this too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr0KkzbbqPI
  15. Here's the plate off of the purple one. (Sorry, not as good as other dog's workmanship, but I tried)
  16. Looks like it's got an AI460 engine, T318L transmission, FXL18 front axle, 16.5" X 6" front brakes, Rockwell 23160 rear ends 4.30 ratio with interwheel differential lock, 16.5" X 7" Rockwell Q-Plus rear brakes. That's some of what it's got on it, but a complete line sheet will ahve a lot more information. A word of advise: Keep an eye on the frame rails in the area just behind the steering gear and the same location on the right side for cracks. One of the frame vendors made some frames with bad relief cuts that would crack in service. I think your truck is in the time frame that there were several of these. There is a service bulletin on a repair for this. I'll see if I can find it if you're interested
  17. So then I guess you are supposed to pay not to ride in it, right?
  18. Is that yellow pos a taxi cab or something?
  19. Happy Birthday Thad.
  20. It's been quite a while since I've had the opportunity to root through a new truck to see what was in it. The line sheet used to come in every new truck along with the operators manuals and other misc. stuff. I think it used to be printed on generic green and white printer paper. I would imagine they are still available, and getting one for a truck like yours shouldn't be too hard. Inability to obtain your line sheet may be related to the dealership you're talking to. If you don't have a really good relationship with them they may not be willing to go out of their way for you. You might have better luck simply calling or emailing Mack Trucks. Try the following: Email: customer.satisfaction@macktrucks.com Phone: 610-709-3961 (I don't know if that number is still good since the move to Greensboro NC.)
  21. Memo to Mark, the new secretaries you sent down arrived today in the company car, however I believe your personel dossiers are mixed up as these two young women did not match the photos that you included. Nonetheless, we believe these two young ladies will be a fine addition to the corporate offices in Texas. For your convience I am including photos so you can update your records. By the way, were you aware of the jug of moonshine in the back of the company car? We may need to keep an eye out for such negligent use of company property in the future. rhasler, Head of Personel and Human Resource Dept., randyp Executive Staffing Solutions Worldwide
  22. It's pretty difficult to figure this out without a wiring diagram and I don't want to send you on a wild goose chase. I would check the turn signal switch. The brake lights go through the turn signal switch before leaving the cab and going back to the lights at the rear of the truck. If you already replaced the switch make sure it is the right type. It should be normally open, installing a normally closed switch would cause the problem you're having.
  23. The package I scanned earlier was from a "give away" item that came with a photo tachometer I bought at a Mac Tools event a few years ago. Reading it brought to mind Henry Rollins' Boris, so I saved the box. I think the box may have outlived the flashlight it was made to hold.
  24. Details are pretty sketchy, mostly just vague rumors. As 3P said: "The only thing I can say is...I can't say" (because I don't know).I would like to see a Midliner class replacement that was similar to what you have described, along the lines of the International 4400 or Kenworth T300 (I believe theat's the correct model number but I may be wrong). From what I've heard, the UD are supposed to be pretty good trucks, but then again I haven't heard very much.
  25. Thanks 3P, sometimes silence speaks louder than words.
