  1. I saw that one too
  2. It is sad,but unfortunately true. You'd be surprised how many farmers around here have fairly late model,KW's,Freightliners,IH's & Pete's with big sleepers to haul there own grain within 25 miles of home. A lot of brand new small bunk and day cabs too.Lots of Visions and new Pinnacles.I don't understand it. most of these guys only put on 15 to 20k miles a year, except for the greedy ones that think they gotta cut truckers rates to keep the truck rolling year round to keep the hired man busy.Myself,if I was a farmer just hauling my own stuff, this old $1750 R model would be perfect.Cheap enough you could dump some money in and make it nice,or just run as is and put the money in your pocket.
  3. Maybe for a select few,but in todays world of "super truckers" and "I gotta one up the neighbor farmers" this fine old workhorse wouldn't get a 2nd glance. Another reason they are being gobbled by the thousands by the 3rd world countries.
  4. I may be wrong, but the Ryder Paymaster was owned by ATHS,they sold it and ended up getting it back later,it's now on loan to the Iowa 80 Museum.
  5. It had been sitting 3 years, all it took was a battery and had to pump up 1 front tire

I think so,but as soon as I find out the date,I'll let you know. It's always on a Saturday, first part of March
  7. Just wish it was chrome.
  8. The trailer pictured is a '74 Timpte 40 ft. flat floor grain trailer, not a hopper bottom. It's for sale. I got a '86 Doonan 42 ft. hopper bottom in the deal with this R model, but have it sold already.
  9. That's why I put upgrade in quotes,I was being sarcastic. He got a '96 IH.
  10. I love that wrecker. Good to see that blue 361 Brock with the morgan sleeper is still around, always kinda liked it too.
  11. I've known the truck thru 2 owners,it's always had excellent mechanical care, but neither were much on soap and water.
  12. Another farmer "upgraded" to a newer truck and wanted rid of this old girl. '79 R686ST,ENDT676,2 stick 6 speed,4:17's on Camelback. It had a new trunion and crossmembers put in about 5 years ago and a new clutch about 2 years ago.Hood is perfect, cab is a little rusty.Runs and drives great.
  13. wish I had someone like that to celebrate today with, probably have to bury me the next day, though. Just make sure Vinny gets my U models.

    it sucks to get old,Terry
  15. I just saw a recent PAI ad somewhere, had their restored B61 In it.
  16. I realize I'm weird but when it comes to rare stuff like this you really gotta do whats morally right sometimes. I bought a V8 MH ,gonna knock it in the head, rough as a cob, just wanted the E9 to put in a Superliner. Lo and behold, turns out the MH was an original Magnum, only 64 made.Rare truck, just like the B815. It's still together, and will stay together so hopefully someone will restore it (it's been for sale quite awhile)if not,I will get it done someday. You wouldn't buy the Mona Lisa just because you wanted to use the frame for another painting, would you?
  17. Glad you decided to stick around
  18. you'll never use the lo-lo except off road, split the aux,lo,direct.hi for each main gear. It takes practice but you will eventually learn which gears you can skip, depending on how much weight you have on. When upshifting, shift main first, then aux.( for example when in first hi,shift main to 2nd,then aux. back to lo) and opposite on downshifting.
  19. So were only the IH powered ones called Power Giants ??

I've lost track of how many they have had,5 or 6 now,but I know I've been there 3 times, usually every other year. Missed last year,so definitely going to try this upcoming year.
  22. I wanted to buy that truck for my son,but "it's a nice truck, but R models aren't cool enough, hood's too short" . Damned kids today, anyway. I know this is easy to say now,but I would have pAID $25K FOR IT IN A HEARTBEAT. I'm certain it was $30 or 35K he was asking when I was considering it. The scary part for me anyway is that if they have started to buy up nice stuff like that, none of our trucks will be safe anymore.
  23. It probably did. I don't think Appell's would know the difference.
  24. They only made 220 B815's,don't pull that engine,please.
