  1. that's a nice lawn ornament, how many AC's are still floating around the Chicago area?
  2. you know better than that,he rode a camel
  3. man that's ugly,I kinda liked the RB,since it looked like a traditional R model hood, never did care for the '91 up RD hoods
  4. if that Vin # is correct, that could be a very interesting B42.The PB stood for Piggy Back ,they were special built tractors for rail road use to load and unload trailers from the piggy back cars.
  5. you are correct, rubber goes between radiator and support.
  6. I emailed Barry again a couple days ago and haven't heard back. Here's anoption,I have a B-60 emblem someone made out of aluminum,if someone with way more talent than me could make a mold,I don't think it would be that hard to do ,the aluminum could be polished and you could use the 3M emblem tape to put them on,the same could be done with plastic and then painted with chrome paint, wouldn't be perfect but would be better than none. Anybody know anything about making molds???
  7. I was told the same thing when asking about gas for my EF,said it wasn't needed,I put some in anyway, figgered it couldn't hurt.
  8. unless the pic is hiding alot, the sheet metal or your A don't look that bad to me.That stuff is real steel you know,it can be welded and patched, not like the junk tin can sheet metal on todays stuff
  9. none of the sheet metal interchanges between a A and a L model .Some E model stuff will work, but not exactly the same
  10. that's the whole problem,right there
  11. good to see her out earning her keep and showing up the newer stuff.
  12. I hope I'm wrong but those snap rings look like the ones that hold the wrist pin in the piston
  13. You guys must have strong backs,I used to,but too many years in a F model. Reminds me of a story I used to tell. Years ago I went to Gilley's in Texas. After watching several "cowboys" get bucked off the mechanical bull,I decided to give it a try.I jumped up in the saddle, and they started winding it up,I just sat there, took a can of Skoal out of my pocket and took a dip,Asked someone to throw me a can of beer, popped it open and drank it,by then they had it cranked as hard as it would go and I was still in the saddle. After they shut it down and I climbed off,Mickey Gilley came up to me and said "that beats anything I ever seen, nobody's ever hung on that long, let alone drink a beer and take a dip of snuff like nothing was going on,you must be a pro bull rider." I said " heck, that ain't nothing, try driving a F model Mack with a 144" wheelbase and Camelback suspension across Highway 78 in Iowa"
  14. Looks reallyrealy nice, but you are going to wish you'dhave stretched it out about 5 or 6 feet. One look at that stack of springs and that short wheelbase makes my kidneys hurt.
  15. I'm going to offer it to my friend that was first interested in it,if he doesn't want it,I'm going to offer it to my uncle,he told me a couple weeks ago he's thinking about getting another grain truck for harvest use,he already has a nice '79 DM685S with a 18' grain box, this R would easily make a good grain truck, frame has been stretched and reinforced. If he don't want it,I'll put it up for sale here.I don't really have a use for it,but who knows what would have happened to it if I didn't get it.
  16. if you bought your land 6 years before the law was written, and te conditions you are being fined for existed before the law was writen, and you can prove it,you should be considered "grandfathered" in to the old rules. That's what they told me when I was being harrassed and a neigbor wasn't,he was "grandfathered". You might try that..
  17. if you don't find any,let me know.I think I have one extra for sure, possibly both.
  18. I've seen both versions,as I recall, the first you mentioned didn't have reverse on the 2nd stick, but in fact locked the main so it could only be shifted from 1st to reverse, giving creeper gear for each. These were the forerunners of the more popular version of the 6 speed that had lo.direct and reverse on the 2nd stick and actually allowed you to have 5 reverse gears.

  20. It's kinda weird how I ended up with it.The same elevator that I got my '88 Superliner from had traded this in to the local Mack dealer 4 years ago on a '99 CH.A friend of mine was interested in it,so I never pursued it.It sat down there quite awhile,so one day I saw Charlie and asked when he was bringing it home.He told me they wanted too much for it and was gonna let them sit on it awhile.I knew it was a good old truck, but if it was too high priced for him,it was definately out of my budget,so that's the way I left it.It sat there about a year, one day I was getting filters and the salesman walked out,so I asked if it had gotten any cheaper,he told me it was sold and they were just waiting on the new owner to bring them a van body to mount on it.So there it sat.......and sat.Fast forward to 2 weeks ago,the guy that bought it called me up,said his plans had changed and he didn't need it anymore. The dealer didn't want to buy it back,so they gave him my number, said I'd probably be the only one around that would want it,so make him an offer. So another R model joins the family.
