  9. The E9 is very unreliable, send the truck back to the USA as soon as possible. While you are at it,round up all the other Macks you can find and ship them back to the USA as well.
  10. if Petes are so damn great, why do all the "big rigger" drivers sit on the floor and put on those big stupid looking visors so nobody can see them??Hell, alot of them even take the emblems off the hood.I've driven a couple 352's,a 362,a 359,a 377 and a 379.I was never the least bit impressed.I told each trucks owner they'd never ,ever have to worry about me wanting to borrow their truck.
  11. You shoulda seen me driving it home,Al.I was sitting there proud as can be,seat aired up of course,4 flat tires beating me to death on the rear ,2 unbalanced 10:00x20 scabs on the steer,56 mph,all the time thinking "what ungreatful bastard would even begin to think of scrapping this fine old workhorse."

  17. Friend of mine called me last week, said he had a customer wanting rid of a rough old R model, wanted to know if I was interested, otherwise he was driving it to the scrapper. He sent me some phone pics and gave me his overall opinion,so I bought it over the phone.Went to pick it up this morning and was more than pleased. Runs great, frame is super clean, cab has only one spot of rust thru, very solid, just needs a good cleaning. Hood has seen better days and I didn't get much for tires, but all in all,a very savable truck. It's a '77 R685ST,no frills work truck. It has a 237,5 speed, and 4:17's on camelback, power steering too.According to a sticker on the air cleaner,it was sold new at R&R Mack,Youngstown,OH.I did some research when I got home. The last owner used it for a lowboy tractor and only put about 3000 miles on it since he bought it 3 years ago.The owner previous to him was a farmer that bought it to make a straight truck out of,but never got around to it.He had purchased it from a factory in Burlington,IA where it had been used as a local shag tractor and spotter for 20+ years and was guaranteed the odometer reading was actual miles,it's showing 312,000. As clean as the engine and chassis is,I'd definately say this is accurate. I was going to pull the engine for another project, but after finding all this out,I think it's going to get a little TLC instead.
