I've pretty much decided I'm going to keep it.Although I did get a tempting offer,like Paul said,I knew I'd regret it later.Good news is that I did manage to sell a '46 Chevy 2 ton,'50 Chevy 1/2 ton,'46 Studebaker 2 ton,'72 Ford F750,'53 Ford car,and an old GMC panel truck.Got room and cash for some more Macks,now.

  3. Awhile back my insurance agent told me that he had to find another company to cover me as the one I had decided my truck was too old.They sent someone to look it over and no problems after that.

  5. Yes it is a plus 3 cab and I still haven't found a door panel. I do have one fuel tank left,mate to the one Paul got from me.
  6. I don't think you'll regret it.I told Paul that cab looked savable.I still have a pair of 457's for parts if you need anything.The one Paul got the front axle from was 1674 powered also.

The 237 was a 2 valve engine,and it's most likely a 6 speed,Lo split in first gear only,you'd have to check numbers on the case to see which one as there were a few different versions depending on the lo gear ratio.Mack used that knob on several different versions of the old Maxitorque transmissions,6,7,10 and 12 speeds.

The A54 is one of the rarer A series Macks.There were only 864 built between 1952 and 1953.Your fenders look solid,you can pound dents out and weld them,they are made of real steel,not the stuff they use today.The budd type wheels on this one is a rarely seen option for A models.Headlights were common on several models,E,A ,& L,so not that hard to find,definately a truck worth restoring.
  10. ENDT676 is correct,known as the 300 series Maxidyne,283 hp.The 300+ was a ETAZ673A,a Thermodyne engine rated at 315 hp.There have been several times a 676 engine has been misrepresented as a 300+.

  14. Of the few E6's I've seen with broken cranks,the block was damaged too,therefore you have no core .I've seen good used takeouts for 2500 to 3500.

Got notified yesterday that I was high bidder on this little R model that a neighboring county had retired from lowboy service.Nothing fancy,just a super clean,super straight old R model work truck.Pretty dusty from being inside,but paint looks good enough to stay,just need to paint frame and wheels,and hunt up a chrome stack.

Way back 35 years ago or so,when I was looking over the right shoulder of the Bulldog,instead of the left,on a trip to Joslin,IL with Dad,I spotted a fresh out of the paint shop B-61 sleeper cab sitting along the highway in Milan,IL,across from what is now the Quad Cities Downs horse race track.Beautiful looking truck,maroon with chrome radiator shell,chrome straight pipe,bullet lights.It sat there off & on for quite awhile.Unfortunately,always loaded with cattle and always in a hurry,never could get Dad to stop so I could look it over and take pics.One day,it was gone,never to be seen again?Not quite. July 1990,Walcott Truckers Jamboree.We were just there for the day,as Wendy was due with our first,Mikey,and I didn't have anything to show yet,was still trying to finish my 2nd B-61 after the 1st burnt up in '85.There it was,paint faded,body work starting fall out,bumper half gone,but it was definately the same truck,and it was for sale.I made an offer,but was turned down,and once again,lost track of it. Couple years ago,a friend sends me pics of an old B61 he spotted,there she was again,looking really bad now,time had not been good to it at all.Didn't have the funds at the time,so once again it slipped away until this week,I spotted an ad and called.If the weather cooperates,it willl be coming to my place next weekend.

  19. Here you go,Ron.A couple from Walcott 2008. I'd like to add that Ron probably has one of the nicest B-61's around.Nicely chromed and updated,air ride,300+,13 speed,super sharp truck.

They had acouple others,sold one at a local auction.They had another on Ebay awhile back,same color blue,tandem with a hydraulic lift 5th wheel,aluminum frt wheels,nicely chromed.First time it sold to a foreign buyer that never paid for it.I don't think it met reserve 2nd time.I'm planning on stopping by their place Sat.I'll see if it's still there.
  21. first is an engine #,2nd trans.I was inquiring about a truck for sale and asked owner what engine and trans it had and he sent these #'s,which are casting numbers,I think.

If you get to the midwest,the Iowa 80 Trucker's Jamboree is July 12th & 13th,it's always a great show.Plus you can check out the Iowa 80 Museum,which houses the very 1st AC Mack,plus many other fine old trucks.And if you get out this way,you more than welcome to come check out my collection of old rusty relics.
  25. there were several models that had aluminum hoods,B67,B73,B75,B615,B46,but the way I understood his post,he meant a standard B61 style hood,the vast majority of them were steel.
