  1. Joe, I don't know if it's a scam or not.I never watched it all the way thru to see if it sold. It's definately not a '87,more likely a '78.It's not priced out of line,if you were looking for one to fix up.I sent the guy a question asking for the VIN,hopefully he will respond. The code for the 8V92 is "70"I think."26" is the code for a 6V92,will see if it comes back with either of those numbers, but I'd bet it's a glider kit.
  2. I've checked my books and can't find where a 8V71 was offered in the Superliner, just 6V92 and 8V92. 73 was the code for the 8V71,so if it did exist,a steel framed 8V71 powered Superliner would be a RWS773LST. If it was a glider,it would say RWS700K on the tag. That Superliner has been on Ebay several times, don't know what the full story is on it.
  3. Since you both have pretty important jobs at Mack, maybe you can get this message through to the "Top Dogs" I realize as a group here,we represent only a small percentage of Mack owners, but I think most here as well as the 1000's of other Mack owners world wide, will back me up on this. Volvo needs to realize that most Mack truck owners buy Mack trucks because of their longevity. We don't want a truck with a 3 to 5 year lifespan, like a Volvo or Freightliner. When Grandpa would buy a new Mack,he could depend on the fact that it would not only serve him well for 10 years, but it would also be a faithful worker for the next owner when it was traded off. That's why the guys in charge need to realize that taking care of the guys running 20+year old Macks,is just as important as developing new trucks. But,no matter how tough our Macks are, stuff still breaks once in awhile and some things do wear out. That's why we need guaranteed parts support for our older Macks, not the attitude of junk it and buy a new one. When I restored my first B-61 in the '80's,I had no trouble getting reasonably priced parts at my local dealer. As many B models as there still are on the road, there's no reason for parts not to be readily available through the dealers. Now some R model parts are becoming NLA.How many tens of thousands R models are still out there working every day? It's bad enough I can't get parts for my F model any more, how long until I can't get parts for my Superliners and my CH? So hopefully you can get Volvo to realize that there are a whole lot more used Mack truck owners worldwide than there are new ones,so they need to keep us going too.Afterall, what good is it to build new trucks if nobody will buy them second hand? Thanks for letting me ramble. Remember,it's "Built like a Mack truck",not Volvo.
  4. Far as I know, the first production CH's were titled as '89's.I rented a used '89 CH in '91 while my Superliner was in the body shop after a run in with a couple deer.Sure was glad to get back in the Superdog after driving that one.It wasn't spec'd very fancy, and I didn't think much of the way it drove.
  5. Amen! A better question would be,why in the world would you drive anything but a Mack.
  6. Never was a E8. Pretty sure the E9 remained mechanical to the end for US production, but I think it got electronics in Australia, where it was offered for awhile longer in ratings up to 610 hp. The very first Mack V8 was the END864,in 1962.Same basic block was carried into the later ENDT865 Maxidyne and ENDT866 Thermodyne V8's.Then came the ENDT1000 V8,can't find too much history on this engine,so not 100% sure, but I think it's the same basic block as the 998cu.in.E9 . Chris88,if you have a mechanical engine in a '98,it's got to be a replacement,or is the truck a glider kit?
  7. Of all the trucks I've owned that I used to make a living, all Macks of course,B-61,F model,Cruiseliner,R model,MH,Superliner & CH,the Superliner's I had were by far the best driving and handling.I'm not talking about ride or power, but the way a truck feels.Got my first Superliner in '89,it was a '85 with 500k on it.Really thought my old '76 R model was a good driving truck until I drove that Superdog for the first time.I loved the layout of the cab, also, and the Superliner look is second to none.Don't get me wrong,I really like the CH I have now,it's been a good truck, and of the 3 CH's I've had, this has been the best driving one so far,but it don't hold a candle to the Superliner.I even tried a set forward axle CH in '97,close,but no match, but I really think I'd have liked it better if it would have had a sleeper.CH's are alot harder to bond with in my opinion. My first one was a '91 I got used in '95,E7400,T2130,42"bunk.Loved the motor and trans.,never could get to like the truck much, made me want my '85 Superliner back really bad, then I got the '97 set forward axle CH new,427,T2130,liked it alot, but couldn't ever fall in love.Went back to a F model, best driving COE anybody ever made.Loved to drive it.Then got a chance to buy a '87 Superliner again, and it was true love from the first mile.Broke my heart when I had to park it because of the frame going bad from spreading, but was lucky enough to find a CH I could live with.
  8. First F model we had with factory air was in '74,so I'd guess about the same time frame for R models.
  9. The E6 came to be in '80-'81 with the start of the front mounted air to air.Same basic engine as the older 672 ci engines, and available in most of the same hp ratings,250 to 350 hp.The were available as either Maxidynes or Econodynes. The E7 first appeared in '89 as a mechanical and was built alongside the E6 until '90 when the E6 was phased out.The E7 was available from 250 hp to 400 hp at first. They started the electronic versions in '91.If I remember right, they phased out the mechanical versions in '93-'94.In '95 the 427 and 454 hp came out.The 454 was later redone as a 460 and available to 490 hp as the 460XT. The E9's roots go back to '79 with the 400hp ENDT1000,think it was about '82 when they came out with the 440hp version and called them E9's.In '85 the 440 was raised to 450hp and the 500 hp version was started.A 400 hp version was also still available. Not sure when the last E9 was built,95 or so?
  10. Since it's a '65,I'd be willing to bet it's a 711 that's had a turbo upgrade. The 711's had some head problems and alot were updated by redoing the heads and adding a turbo. To my knowledge, the 711 was never turbo'd from the factory. If the truck's VIN number starts out with B613,then it had a turbo'd 673 from the factory,205 hp.
  11. If they would bring back the Superliner,I'd order one in a heartbeat.
  12. We've got about 8 or 10 inches of snow so far, plus what we already had on the ground, never lost much since the first storm we had on Dec.1st.,wind is really bad, lots of drifting.Hauled cattle today to Joslin,IL.Interstates were really slick from the blowing snow.
  13. The steel hood was also an option on the RD600 from the beginning of it's production.
  14. Sure hope you can make it out to Walcott again, too,Ron.Mikey still gloats about getting to drive your truck.
  15. Had to run to the post office to see if my new Bulldog was there so I could see for myself.Gotta figure out who sent that in,looks like part of the story was from Bruce Mallison's column in Landline. That was about 4 years ago,and that picture is 5 or 6 years old.Mikey and I have both gotten a little bigger since that was taken.

  24. That is a sharp Superliner, even with the way too big bunk. Here is a pic of my first Superdog.I picked it up 12-12-89,trading my '76 R600 for it.Traded it off 5 years later, wish I still had them both.It was a '85,E6-350 cranked up ,Dynatard,T2100 trans.,Camelback suspension, and 4:17 rears.Had 500k on it when I got it and 1,000,000 miles when I traded it.Absolutely beautiful truck to drive. There were a few of the "big riggers" that would outrun me on the flats, but I always handed them their hat on the hills, leaving a trail of coal black smoke for them to follow.
