  2. From the album: Mike's Macks

    1947 Mack LT,VIN# LT2D1001,first LT Mack built.
  3. From the album: Mike's Macks

    W71,200 Cummins,5 speed w/manual 2 speed rear.W71T1156
  4. Picked up the first load on a package deal of new to me Macks today.1947 LT serial # 1001 and a single axle W71.Got a B67,a B615 and a B71 left to pick up.
  5. Yes,the hoods were same length, but both the RL/RS700 and the eastern R700 went thru a few hood design changes throughout their production runs.
  6. The RS700 was built in Hayward,CA,the R700 was built in PA.The RS had an aluminum grille, straight rail frame, and usually alot more aluminum components than a straight R700,and it was also available as a RL with an aluminum frame. The ENDT866 was 375 hp,ENDT865 was 325 hp,END864 was 255 hp.Just a wild guess, but I'd say the truck probably had a 865 and has been replaced with a 864,doesn't look like it has a turbo to me either. The 864 was available at 325 hp,but it had twin turbo's.
  7. It's time to boycott McDonald's.My youngest daughter spends alot of time riding with me since school got out,and she usually gets me talked into stopping at McDonalds for a Happy Meal.Stopped there today and guess what, the new toys are the "CARS"movie cars, all except one,Mack.
  8. At 50 mph with 7:49's on 24.5's,now,I believe I'd go to a 5:73,should put you about were you want. My B83 has 4:17's on 24.5's and it is way too fast,100+ mph
  9. The original Mack V8 was the END864,864 CID,introduced in '62 at 255hp,they also made a twin turbo version rated at 325 hp later on.The Maxidyne V8,ENDT865 came out in '70,available in 285 and 325 hp ,Thermodyne version rated at 350 and 375 hp came out a few years later. The last V8's were introduced in '79 as the ENDT1000,400 hp,they were 998 CID,became the E9 in '81,available in 400 and 440 hp ratings, underwent some changes in '85,offered in 400,450 and 500 hp.They ended in the US in the mid '90's,continued for awhile longer in Australia, where they were offered at 610 hp at the end.
  10. The "Elite" was just a trim level, not a separate model.Cloth interior, real wood grain dash panels, fancy seats, etc. The difference between a CH and CHR is that the CHR is right hand drive.
  11. Sounds like a real decent price, especially if it is a 237.I sure wouldn't let it get away.If it has the old cast trunion, check it for cracks,as well as the front spring hangers, not that they can't be repaired or replaced.
  12. I don't know the reason for the large gap/seam between the front corner panels and the main cab body.I've never done any body work on a MH,but I'm betting it had something to do with those corner panels being bolted on separately for ease of repair, kinda like the grille,it was in 6 sections,if part of it got damaged, you ddn't have to replace the whole thing.
  13. you could get a A40 with single rear axle,or tandem from the factory.
  14. The front is not split in 2 pieces, thats just a seam. The hinges are right down next to the bumper.thats where it tilts.
  15. Rob, I don't know what will work and what won't,but I got a 8V71T with a scored piston, probably locked up by now anyway,it's all there, come pick off what you need.Gotta 9513 behind it I need to get yanked off for another guy,if you think any of it will do you some good, let me know. PS Still ain't found one of those rubber pieces you need that was in better shape than the one you have, but I still have a couple trailers to look thru.
  16. They obviously wanted to use something that had a chance of damaging the barrier. How far thru do you think a Volvo would have made it,providing it ran long enough to reach 50 mph.
  17. Believe it or not,my '58 B-83SX wrecker will run over 100 mph.How much more,I've never found out,can't find a road long and smooth enough.It has a NTC290 Cummins,TRT7220 trans,and 4:17 Mack rears on 11R24.5 drive tires.
  18. How about posting some pics of the Mack switchers in the museum,I've only seen old factory pics. If you have a copy of the B model Photo Archives books,it shows some underside shots of the B44PBT "piggy back" tractor, made for use in rail yards. Also,if you want to see an Aussie B converted to rail use, rent the movie"Mad Max:Beyond Thunderdome".Movie is pretty lame, but the B model makes it worth watching. It's even air start.
  19. I don't remember the exact figures,as it was over 20 years ago,but I priced one at my dealer for my '76 R600 ,very expensive I thought,around $200.
  20. The sleeper cab is a fairly rare today, mainly because they rusted worse than a regular B cab,so if it's in good shape, runs and drives good,etc,5 to 7,000 probably wouldn't be too out of line, but I sure wouldn't come right out and offer him that, let him price it and go from there.
  21. 20 inch tube type and 22.5 tubeless use the same hub,22 inch tube type and 24.5 tubeless are the same,Don't think there is a tubeless version of 24 inch tube type.
  22. We used to have both MC and MR,with the MC being the lighter, city tractor/light straight truck model and the MR was heavy duty, mainly a garbage truck chassis.
  23. The last 2 numbers were the engine code, here are a few for example, using the RS700 as the truck. RS785.....ENDT675 Maxidyne RS786.....ENDT676 Maxidyne RS795.....ENDT865 Maxidyne RS797.....ENDT866 Thermodyne RS771.....12V71 Detroit RS773......8V71 Detroit RS747......NTC290 Cummins RS767......NTC350 Cummins They did put some Cats in but I'd have to get my book out, only one I can remember off the top of my head is the code for a 3208,which is 92,never made the 700 series R models, but there were some R492's made. If you want to know any other specific ones, let me know, cause there were hundred or so,take me all day to type them all,I did once for Tom Gannaway, hope he saved it somewhere. One more thing,Block, there was also a 285 hp version of the ENDT865 V8 and a 350 hp version of the 866.
  24. Looks to be in decent shape body wise, but it has the wrong engine, supposed to have a 866 V8.
