  1. Pic's kinda blurry,is it a A50 or A54?You can adjust the air governor if you want it to build up more air pressure,90 to 100 psi would be fine.
  2. I had a '86 R model with Neway and it weighed just a pinch heavier than another local R model spec'd simialr only with 34K Camelback.I'm sure the newer Hendrickson built Mack air ride would be a couple hundred lbs. lighter than Camelback.Oh yeah,that's with tires.

Charlie, You will probably have to do a little fabricating.There haven't been alot of Maxidynes put in L's.The only guy I know of that has a 237 in a L fire truck is Cal Little.You might wanna try to get ahold of him.I don't think your 707 waterpump will work on a 237.The rear engine mounts were usually bolted to the trans. on the diesels.If I was you,I believe I'd go with a newer TR1076 transmission,these are plentiful and usually pretty cheap,and should remedy your bellhousing problem.I'd go with a dry type element air cleaner off a R or U 685.These are a little smaller than the single outlet air cleaners on the later model 686 and 688's.You'll have to go to air or electric wipers,also.You also don't want to forget that your rear end will be of a ratio best suited for a gas engine,you'll have to change that also.

Just like anything,you'll have good ones,bad ones and in between.Friend of mine has an early '85,started out as a 440.He bought it used in '87,ran it a few years and in-framed it,did an out of frame at one million and found some cracks in the block.He put in a new block and had it turned up to 750 hp,had turbo problems so he toned it down a little.He had some minor pump problems,and had some head bolts break,but nothing really major,and has never been stranded along the road with it.It's been majored once on the new block and is bumping 2 million miles on the truck.All in all,it's been a good truck. Worst part about them is cost and availabilty of parts since they've been out of production.

  7. B models were NOT replaced by U models,the C model was replaced by U models,the U model was introduced in '64,not '65,and production ended in '89.
  8. Dan, The C models used rubber seals,they probably kept using up the alum.windshield frames in the L cab B models till they ran out and switched them to rubber too.The '64 B755 I used to own had alum. frames,most of the ones I've seen with all rubber were '65 and '66 models.

There's no comparison between the 2,the E9 will out pull a Cat.But here's the downside.Since the E9 went out of production,parts are starting to get scarce and it's probably more expensive of the 2 to work on now,because of that. Another little bit of advice.You really shouldn't admit in public that you drive a Cat powered truck,especially a Pete.

The U model came out in '64,before the R model.It replaced the C model as a short BBC short haul,city tractor,and the offset cab and short hood was supposed to offer improved visibility in city traffic. I bought a '79 single axle U model last year for $900.It was in decent shape,very little rust,small crack in hood,excellent running 237.
  12. In '84,there was a '57 B61 from Toledo,Iowa at the Walcott Truckers Jamboree that had a 8V92T in it.It was also Tractor of the Month in Overdrive in that same time period,'83 -'84.A year or so back,the same truck was for sale on one of the Truck Trader sites,but was in Kentucky.

  14. Larry, I've got a complete s/a air ride with rear end,make you a good deal on the whole works.It's on 20" spokes.
  15. I would think 22.5's would be simple for them,as the 5 hole wheels were available in that size.Transcon was still running them on it's Freightliners and trailers way up into the '80's.I've got a few sets of the original 5 hole 22.5's.
  16. The engine was a ENDT673C,those were rated at 250 hp.,not to be confused with the older ENDT673 which was 205 hp.
  17. I can tell you that all Visions don't do that,my Dad has a '01 and younger brother has a '04.Being it's a '05,that would make it a CXN,meaning it has the Volvo designed frame,the hood probably just wants the hell off for pride's sake.
  18. If you can't find it stamped on the engine block,look at the VIN# of the truck,if it was a R795,then the engine is a ENDT865,325 hp ,if it was a R797,then it is a ENDT866,375 hp.Either way,parts are getting scarce for both.

  20. position of the starter doesn't have a thing to do with what kinda engine it is,look where Larry said unless the engine possibly came out of a cabover,then it's stamped on the backside of block.

Al, I'm not much on the 998 V-8 history,but here's what little I do know.The E9 first came out in '79-'80 as the ENDT1000 rated at 400 hp.When Superliner and Cruiseliner production moved to PA from CA is about the time they renamed them the E9 and that's when the 440 hp version came out.Just like the 672 in. block engines,the E9's are all basically the same,just subtle differences to give the different hp ratings.A friend of mine has a late '84 RWS722 and he has it currently putting out 700hp to the ground.The 450 and 500 hp versions came out with the SuperlinerII introduction in '85.Before production was halted,the E9 was available in Australia rated a 610 hp. Now tell us what in the world are you doing with a '05 Pete????????????
