  1. Back in the late '70's Harry & Spike Nelson purchased this AB dump for display at their dealership,H&L Mack in Mediapolis,IA. After moving to their new location on Highway 61 in 1979,the old AB got stored in the parts room, and there it remained, slowly getting covered up with boxes of parts. At one point before his passing,Harry tried to get it running again, but it never got finished. I tried on several occasions to get them to do something with it,but the next generation showed litle interest in it,so there it sat. This July H&L was bought by Quincy Mack. One of the 1st things they did was have the shop foreman get the old AB into a bay and get it operational again. I was sure happy the day he called me and asked if I had any parts for it. I provided a few missing pieces and they got it going in time to display at the Farm Progress show in Decatur,IL. Yesterday it was in the Veteran's Day parade in Quincy,IL. I borrowed this pic from Facebook.
  2. I just had to haul it from the truckstop to my house,my wrecker buddy was coming home empty from a tow and he drug it out of IL for me. I knew it was going to be too long for me to haul and the way the wiring is in it,I didn't want to drive it home and have it catch fire.
  3. they are Budd type, but they have the Freightliner logo holes, that's why I don't want them,I already said something to my friend that's into these Portland POS's,he wants some other stuff of it too,but if he don't take the wheels I'll let you know.
  4. I'm pretty certain I'm not going to use the rears. I want to make the RL a little longer so I can put one of my Mercury sleepers on it,and I think the best way to do that is go with Camelback suspension, slide the trunion all the way to the end of the existing frame, and then add on to the back, that way there won't be any stress on the welded area and I won't have to sleeve the aluminum rails with steel. The cab and hood aren't that great,Ernie.
  5. if my Freightliner buddy don't want the 2 front ones, they will be for sale, but I'm keeping the back ones for the RL.
  6. it's a '86 Freightliner,it ain't very pretty. The guy I got it from was going to fix it up,but just ended up using the bunk on a different truck, cab is really rought, wires hanging everywhere inside,
  7. Doesn't sound good does it? I just sold some scrap aluminum, hadn't for quite awhile,it was down about $.20/lb from last time I'd sold any.
  8. After getting the '70 RL763 home from S.Dakota last month,I made up my mind this project wasn't going to sit around til I'm too old to drive it. I checked around some of my sources for a 335 Cummins, couldn't find anything that met my requirements(good, cheap, and close to home). Friend of mine called me last week, wondered if I wanted to buy a truck to part out,he'd been trying to sell it quite awhile, had it "sold" twice and neither buyer showed. He needed it gone, bad, couldn't turn it down for the price,so now I have a donor for my glider kit build. not exactly the components I wanted, but this will make it more usable. It has a Big Cam 3 400 Cummins and a RTO14615 trans. 3:90 rears on Air Liner suspension, kinda doubt the rears will get used, most likely go with Mack. Got it drug home today. One surprise bonus,6 -24.5 Alcoas and 8 matched virgin Bridgestone drive tires with alot of tread left
  9. bet that old girl could outwork a new one any day of the week
  10. I see you are from IL,I'm in SE IA and have the real deal in my back yard if you want to come down and take pics.
  11. That really sucks, has happened to me also, but that ain't gonna make you feel any better. just hope it went to a good home.

  13. don't hold your breath
  14. As much as I hate it,I see why so many R models get exported. I've turned down 5 buyers willing to pay my price in cash,
  15. So far that seems to be the only serious interest I've had.
  16. I thought it turned out good, and I was proud to be in it. The last I looked it had over 107,000 views. That's pretty good I'd say for just being out a couple days.
  17. I've got a FARR air cleaner set up of a MB if that would interest you.
