  1. $500 and you didn't bring it home ???
  2. If I remember right, the first ones didn't have reverse on the knob where you could have 5 reverse gears, just a hi and lo split
  3. I had a similar deal awhile back,I made a deal on a B model, owner told me he would get it moved out where I could get it and let me know. Mistake I made was not paying for it on the spot, but I didn't know how long it would take for the truck to be ready. A few weeks later the seller calls me and says he has it ready,so I told him I'd get it the next weekend.A few days later he calls and said he had a much better offer and was selling it to them ,and they were going to get it the next day. I said OK,it your truck. It sat there for several months after, don't know what ever became of it.
  4. nice truck
  5. Those shields on the front corners were wind deflectors and were supposed to keep road spray off the side windows so I've been told.
  6. I'll be damned,I've seen that pic before and never noticed that. I gotta check my other G's now.
  7. Is that a smaller than normal bunk,or its it just the angle? And no side box doors, very unusal and sweet looking truck. Can't wait to see what you do with it.If you ned anything let me know,I have a few parts.I'm lost on those brackets, don't know what they are for.
  8. We almost have twins, By the way, what you said about enjoying the almost non-existent operating costs as compared to newer trucks, couldn't sum up better the advantage and pleasure of owning and operating an older Mack truck.
  9. Congrats Dan,that's a rare one for sure. They only made 24 of them.Does it still have a supercharged Cummins in it? Can't wait to see pics. All of my G's have door mounted mirrors, and without going out and looking,I can't place any extra brackets.
  10. looks like you have some cool stuff sitting around
  11. My wrecker fleet. 1958 B61 with homemade boom,END673 with 10 speed Duplex. "Thumper" 1961 B61 with homemade boom,END673 with 10 speed Duplex 1958 B83SX,NTC290 Cummins with 13 speed Triplex,homemade boom with 100 ton Garwood winch. not a Mack,but related,1967 Brockway 457,6-71 Detroit,10 speed Fuller and 600 Holmes unit.
  12. That is supposed to be the very first LJ,#1001.
  13. Where abouts in Iowa are you?
  14. yes they did, they were 90's instead of 9500's. I almost bought one at a friends estate sale,a few years back,it was a dump truck and pretty rough, scrapper wanted it more than I did,had a 8V71 in it.
  15. not me,when it got over $1k I didn't bid anymore. I knew what I'd have in it getting it home and even though it was kinda neat, with the auto trans. and all, there are others I'd like to have worse.
  16. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't that truck sell on Ebay a year or so back?,it was from Chicago.
  17. me either,I like the shutters alot better. I really didn't think they started putting that grille in the 700's til later on.anyway.
  18. did you happen to try ordering a new chrome one from Mack? It wasn't that long ago I got a new chrome grille for my F model, which is still in a box in my closet.
  19. might be easier and cheaper to start with a painted grille if you are just going to powder coat it.
  20. better than a pot of gold in my book
  21. Hope I don't run into any low overpasses.
  22. Seems to me they went to the deeper fender in the late 70's or early '80's. I remember Kinze MFG. had a '82 R766 and that was the 1st one I remember seeing with the deeper fenders.
  23. That's BS. Next time you buy something out this way call me and I will gladly arrange pickup, store it here ,do paperwork or whatever it takes. That goes for anybody else,,too.
