I rent out my yard to a bunch of truckers down here in PHilly.One of the truckers that hauls containers to the port of NJ said that they only check only a few of the containers going out of the US.I know here in PHilly there is a bunch that is going after the higher end cars to be shipped over seas.I went into one of the shops to talk to a fellow that wanted to rent out our whole yard,and there were two guys grinding the #'s off a BMW to load it into a container that had another BMW already in it.I told a friend of mine that is with the fbi and they raided that place the week before he said.Found no cars,but there were alot of grinding wheels.He was saying they no sooner get the cars in and they remove the #'s and ship it right out.

Making progress.'m making a sling so Iwill be able to get to all sides when i sandblast it.

We had 15 1979 DM600 triaxles dump truck that we had brought new.They had to be the worst riding truck I think Mack ever built.They were noisey,bouncey and just plain rough riding.

I feel your pain Farmer52, the last 6 months of my dads life he spent at home under the watchful eye of mom and me and my 2 brothers.The doctors said he had to be place in a home,when they told my mom that I was there and I could see the life just about go out of her.She looked over at me and asked me what I* wanted to do.I told her that if you want him home then lets pack up his clothing and get on home.She was very thankful for that and has always reminded us boys that she couldn't have been more proud of her 3 boys.It was 24/7 care but looking back I wouldn't have changed it for the world.God Bless Farmer52.Will keep you and your mother in my prayers.

No pictures this time,only news to report is that I finished stripping the cab of all lights,air horn,grab handles today.The only thing left to remove is the windshield then the cab will be ready to be stripped of all 5-6 layers of old paint.I think if the weather is better in the next couple of weeks I will sandblast it myself.I can't talk myself into spending money to have someone do what I'm quite able to do.I'm going to build some sort of a harness to turn it over so I can blast the bottom also.Will have pictures of it when done.

I watched a show not that long ago about the company Blitz that made the cans.Lmackattack is right that they had close to 80% of all gas cans sales in the US,but they couldn't afford the insurance so that if some dumb Mother F#@%#$ poured gas on a buning fire and burnt themsleves they couldn't be sued.Well guess who brought out Blitz it was some overseas company that can't get sued.Only in America

I may take a ride up to the Mack custormer center and see if they have a copy of the wiring harness that covers the B87's.It only about an hour north of me.

Maddog,you must of been reading my mine(what's left of it).While I was stripping the firewall on mine I was thinking where in the hell was I going to get these.They were so hard they just cracked.If I find them will let you know.

Paul,i'm sorry about your so called day in court.Maybe your other son and daughter in law will see the light when the little bastard steals from them.Keep your head up and stay cool.Justice will be served one day.

2 rolls of duck tape and some baling wire and they will be back in business.

Here are some pictures of the cab without all the wire harness and so forth in it.I have spoken to the fellow that does the dustless blasting and i'm going to see him tomorrow and get a price from him to do the cab and frame.In the secord pic you will see something to the right of the volt reg.,I was wondering what it is and what does it do.It has to do with the altornator I think.Will let you know how I make out with the blasting guy.

Maybe they turned the punk over to Paul and he's still in the process of giving the young lad just what he needs.That would be a good old time ass-whopping

I never had a problem with the state police pulling me over when I ran our lowboy,they would check over the permit and do a quick run around to make sure all the chains were tight and send me on my way.But now the local boys they were for the most part down right dumb.All they saw were the $$$$.I was grossing out at 150,000lbs one time and had just taken down a whole shit load of wires that were hanging low,but I was about 2" over what my permit allowed drop all the air out of the truck and trailer,so when they came to measure me I was 2"below the permit height.Still gave me a $350 ticket for some bullshit reason.

I have a call into the dustless blasting guy in our area,waiting on getting a price from him.If I have to I will use old faithful the 100lbs sandblast pot I have.The way I found out about the fellow was I called the number on the website for the manurfactor and they gave me his number.

thermo,where did you get your wiring harnesses from,I am doing the same to my B87 tractor?Did you used the dynamat for heat or nose reduction or both?Thanks Mike Durkin

Keep your head up Paul,had the same problem with my one nephew he stole from his grandmother,my mother.When I found out I was doing a roof on mom back garage where I keep some of my antquie Caterpillar tractor.He just happen to be on the roof down the other end,I was so freaking mad I throw a hammer at his head luckie I miss if I had hit him it would have killed him.When he realize what I was comming at him for he jumped off the roof and ran like hell.He doesn't come around me much anymore.Told him and my older brother that if we come togather there will be blood.My brother told his son if I were you I wouldn't be around uncle mike anytime soon.Good luck on Monday,keep us posted

I have always used Caterpillar in all of our equipment and trucks.They are made by Deka right here in Fleetwood PA.

I went out to the website of the Rhode Island Vintage Wiring and found that they do make the wiring harness for the B61,can't be that much different then my B87.Problem is that it's $1200 so I will be making my own.It will be a slower process doing it one gauge at a time but for 1200 I'm in no rush.

The truck has a 335 Cummins in it.

Has anyone here ever tried that dustless blasting.I've seen it on the car channel on the internet.I check into it and it is quite pricey compared to a sanblast unit.The smallest unit was around $5,000.There's a guy not that far from me that has a moblie unit will be giving him a call for a price to do the frame and cab.Thanks Mike Durkin

No your are right the frame is not all that dirty and very little rust even between the frame rails.This truck was parked most nights in side of our shop.The only real mess I have is removing most of the wires that have been cut off over the years.The cab for the most part is in excellent condition for the age.The only real problem area is where we tried to fix the cab mount area.Now this was done back in the 70's when we most likely could still but the right panals from Mack still,but no we had to make our own panals.Our welders were some of the best but when they got done you weren't going to move the cab off that frame with a wrecking ball.Can't wait till the better weather so I can get some real work done on it.Like sandblasting and paint.

Well I spent the day stripping the backside of the cab so a fellow can make me a panal to weld in on the bottom middle of the back of the cab.It will only have to be about 2"x 3',it right where the back meet the floor.I had to use 40 grit sand paper to cut through the 5 layers of paint.Next I tried the new mig welder I brought acouple of weeks ago.Used it to weld up some cracks in the floor,and started to weld up some of the other cracks and holes in the floor panals.Never used a mig before but once I got going it seemed to work great.The final chore of the day was to remove the dash.Once I got the dash away from the rest of the big panal the wires behind was mess.I think what I'm going to do is just ripe out all of the wire harness and just make my own.Would like some feedback from anyone that has done this before.Will get some pictures on Sunday and post them up.One last thing does anyone know what thickness the floor is?It looks like something close to 16 gauge.
