Yes that was a Komatsu D455,when it was brand new. That was back around 1984.We traded in a HD41 tractor on it.I can remember moving that HD41 with the blade still on the tractor. Now adays you can hardly move a D6 with the blade still on it.That one pic of us moving the Koehring 1166 was when we moved it from Pedricktown NJ over to the Philly airport. We only removed the counter weight left the boom and stick in it.We were somewhere close to 250,000lbs. -

Donald was my father, and all the work we did was done up state,in Frackville,Minerville.Did a job in Newark,Del.We got out of it in 2006-07.Got rid of all the iron right before the bottom drop out. Most of the big stuff(d9's,773's,992,375) stayed somewhat local.Just about all the smaller iron went overseas. We did ship the last D9 to Africa. It was an old 66A model, was the best running tractor we had.Would love to be back in it but there's no money to be made. -

I towed the old girl out of the garage today, after I finished with disconnecting all of the wires and airlines that run from the cab to motor or to other locations.I will be lifting the cab off the frame on Friday afternoon when a friend of mine comes by with a boom truck from his work. Will post a picture of it on Wednesday and again on Friday after the cab is removed. The frame and motor, tranmission will be needing a good presure wash.May even sandblast it depending on how it looks. -
The swing arms on the blade is for just that to swing the arms out the back to use as a tool bar. That is for farm attachments.

I'm at our old yard,at Grant and Ashton road in Philly. It right across the street from the entrance of the Northeast Airport.Give me a call 215-669-1252.I'll be down there on Monday morning.Mike -
I have a D2 also that had the same problem. What GreenGiant2 said is the first and easiest way of breaking it loose. What I did was to put a 12'x12" block in back of the track and bump up against it to try and break it loose. If that doesn't work then comes the fun part. You will first have to break the track in half then will be removing the case that holds the steering clucth and break it loose that way.If it has been sitting a long time I doubt the bumping it will work. You can also fill that compartment with disel fuel and hold the steering lever in the back position as you bump it.Don't be shy about bumping it.Give it a shot against the front blade.Let us know how you make out.Mike Durkin

Are those guys for real,do they ever get rid of anything. We have a contractor down here in Philly, that kept everything up till he had an auction back in 87-88.He still has some old b's but he is slowly getting rid of them all.I will be checking up to see what he has left. -

Wasted Time
hicrop10 replied to leversole's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Leversole,I did the same thing some years back.I drove from home here in PHilly almost to the Ohio line to look at an antique Cat tractor. When I called the fellow about the tractor he said it ran when he parked it,and that was about 10 years ago.So I throught that it was parked about 20 years past. When I get out there all I saw was apile of parts for thr tractor.I forgot and he didn't tell me that when he parked it he tore it down to rebuild the motor.Parts were everywheres.Needless to say I came home empty handed. -

Yes when I get her done it will be at the shows. You may be luckey enough to see her out on the road once in awhile.I think I'll do what Leversol does with his Superliner. My problem now is trying to get the steering box loose. It doesn't want to break loose from the frame. Will be working on that today. -

Jakebrake86,me and my 2 brothers were the 3rd generation to be at it.Our grandfather stated back around 1920.Have pic of the old stream shovel he had back in 1925.The prices that guys are doing work for around here is crazy.we did just heavy earthmoving, airports, resiover, warehouses, highways and so forth.I guess if we look back we were smart and luckey when we sold everything,it was all paid for.Guys today at the end of the day all they have are a bunch of payments books.Hand on.Mike -

Well I got some work done on the old girl today.I have the cab lifted up off the frame, just trying to break the steering box loose. Then I have to rig up something to get my chain hoist abit wider,it short by about 2" to clear the rear tires,so I can drag the truck out from under the cab.I may just remove the rear outside tires to drag it out from under the cab. -

Yes it is sad that we went out,but when there's no work and the work that is there isn't paying what it should be it no sence in spinning your wheels just trading $.We stated to look long and hard about the way the industy was headed back around 05-06We were involved in a major lawsuit with the city of Newark,Del that we won but that just made our thinking that much easier. It was a great run,and we would get back into it if it was worth it.I call the contractors around here the walking dead, their only problem is that they don't know to fall over.
