  1. That is a sweet looking truck, reminds me of the ones we had.Didn't go very fast but you always got to where you going. It sounds like alot of money for a truck that you aren't going to work it,and after you get done making it into a show truck you will have well over $20,000 into to it,and when was the last time you saw a b61 go for that kind of money.I'm not saying that this truck is not worth the $11,000 maybe all of the other trucks that are out there for $5,000-$6,000 are only worth say 1,000-2,000. You have to keep in mind that we are restoring these truck not for profit but out of the love we have for these trucks. If I go and take my b87 down to the bare frame and make it like new,I can't even begin to think of what that would cost to have someone else do the work,it would be in the range of $80,000-$100,000 to do the truck.Keep in mind that my truck was road worthly.Just my 2 cent worth.Mike Durkin
  2. That a great job you did on your truck.Once you throw the floor mat down no one will be the wiser. On mine I don't know why they added the two outside bolts to hold the cab down.I will be taking them out and just putting a piece of metal over that area.Working on sanding down the passenger door today, put a lower piece of skin on it where it had rooted out.
  3. I'm going to use Por15 on the complete floor panals, and where ever else I can get it on.That stuff is alittle $$$ but it well worth it.
  4. It was alittle cold out today to do any work in my unheated building,so I used the time wisely and took my wife of 28 years back to her home town of Baltimore,MD to visit the gravesite of her parents. It would have been her mother's 91st birthday today. Will be picking up my passenger door from a fellow that made a lower door skin for it.The skin looks great, willpost a pic of it on Wed.
  5. Maddog,do you really think I even need the ripples, since the truck won't be pulling anymore lowboys.I was just going to weld in something to match the orignal thickness and be done with it.Like you said it get covered up with a floor mat.
  6. That red DM that belongs to English Paving looks to be a twin to the ones we had back in the late 70's.
  7. Sorry first 2 are't right.I will be busy cleaning the whole area,it has 49 years worth of dirt and grease.
  8. Here are the pic after I removed the plates that had been welded onto the floor. It appear that the orignal floor panal in both sides rusted through,so our shop foreman decided that all that was needed was to just cover up the rust with a thicker peice of metal(putting perfume on a pig) that my throught.Since the orignal panal were most likely still able to be had from Mack but weren't in stock we decided to do our own body work,it work.I will weld in a patch alittle nicer that was done some 30 years ago.Maddog I am going to remove the two back outside bolts that we added, can't tell why they were added the 2 middle bolts are still holding.
  9. Maddog, your a great mind reader.I was thinking just the same with the plates up front.I will be checking them in the morning. Will post what I find. Thanks for the help.MIke
  10. Maddog, your right the 2 back outer bolts were added,I can't say when but will know more when I get a good look at the 2 center bolts as to why they were added. I can remember driving the truck as far back as the mid to late 70's and the cab had no movement then,so the bolts were added before that. The truck was used as a daily lowboy tractor right up till early 80's,after that it was used as a back up to the 2 DM800's we had running.
  11. As I have said before in other post that I was restoring my B873SX tractor that has been in the family since new.Well here are some pictures of what I have done sofar.I have removed the seats, floor mats, heater and some of the floor panals. As you can see from the pic the cab floor is not that bad.The 2 back mounts need some mig welding.I would say that by the way the floor rip in those 2 spots that it would appear that the cab was leaning forward, hard to really tell. The 2 front mount you can't even see due to the 2 plates that have been welded in there.Looking up from the bottom the 2 bolts are in place, will be leaving the plates in place. There is some rust through along the bottom of the back of cab,not nothing to major.I have throught about taking the cab off but the building and ground where I have it stored at,I may have it sold and the buyer has cash in hand,so I may be looking for anew place.Don't want to get that involved and then have to move it in pieces.Things tend to get lost when you do that. Will keep you updated as I make headway.
  12. You are talking about the part #,that was the only part of the sticker I couldn't completely read.
  13. What ever happen to that TV show about the family of 7-8 brother from up in Maine. My spelling won't be right but I think their name was Pelitear, they had some new MAck Titians.
  14. I ended up going to the local mall that has a sticker place, and asked the kid if he could make me one. He said no problem, will try and post a picture of it.
  15. Just another fine example that you can't kill a MACK.
  16. I'm in the process of restoring my 1964 B873SX tractor that has a Cummins motor in it.I am looking for the decal that is on the glovebox door for Instructions for Cold Weather Starting. The part number is on the lower left hand corner.I can only read part of mind,it looks like 132474,I have tried Cummins but without the complete # they can't find anything. Thanks for any help.Mike Durkin
  17. Rick Harper,no truer words have been said.I'm going to spend the money for the parts I need and won't complain about because it what I choose to do.How many other so-called truck manurfactor give back to their end user like Mack does. They put on one hell of a show this past fall.I didn't see any donations buckets anywhere. How many other manurfactors have a antique museum that you can call up and ask for and get information on your truck.Like the Big Dog saysALWAYS WAS,STILL IS,ALWAYS WILL BE the king of the road.Just my 2 cents worth.Mike Durkin
  18. I was just out on Watts website to check out some of the prices for the parts I will be needing for my B87 tractor. Now I am not complaiining at all, because if I was needing these for say my CL700 tractor I'ld be paying atleast the same if not more.I do have some of the parts that I had gotten many years ago before Watts was having them, this was when Tidewater Mack had them.It is what it is,if you want to run a BIG DOG then you just grin and bear it.I will be calling Watts in the next couple om months when I get further along with the doors and the cab.
  19. Yes,it does have 24" rubber.About the top speed I got clocked many years ago coming down the PA Pike by the state police, they say I was doing 70 and the pedal was as far down as she would go.The trooper and myself had a long talk about the trucks and the state of affaires and such not,and he left me go.I think to this day he didn't believe that old girl would run like that.We also had a 1958 B873SX and there was no difference between the two trucks.Other than the 58 would take off alittle quicker off the line than the 64 would do.
  20. The rears in my truck is 7.58,with a top end speed of 72.
  21. Mine has some rust, but nothing major.Doors both shut tight, don't sag on hingles. No leaks.I can remember taking our truck out of our yard with a Cat D9 dozer on the lowboy and take it to Allentown,PA that wasn't 100 miles one way and if I was to come home loaded I would have to get fuel before I left to come home.I was ok if I was empty coming home.In the early 80's we did a job in Maryland and we didn't even make it one way with a load on.When it was loaded I think it would get about 1-2 mpg.Between the 2 tanks it only held 100 gallons. But it was the best truck I ever drove,it never left us stranded.I also had a CL700 with most all the bells and whisters, like a/c air ride seat, radio, but the old B model just came to work and work it did.It 's 65,000 rears never went out,I think we rebuilt them once but that about all we ever did to that truck.I can see now what it means "BUILT LIKE A MACK TRUCK really means.Taking it apart I see that where ever Mack needed 2 bolts to hold something togather they used 3-4 bolts and over size ones at that.If you have anyother questions you can call me at 215-669-1252,MIke Durkin
  22. I have a 1964 B873SX tractor that I'm in the process of redoing. We have owned the truck since new,so the truck means alot more to me then anyone else. You couldn't give me $50,000 for my truck.I'm not saying it worth that to someone else but to me it is,I guess if I had to sell it then that would be a different story. Before I started on my truck I would have driven it to CA. and back.Like I said before the only thing that would stop me would be the 3-4 mpg.My trucks serial number ends in 1117 so it not that far off that truck.Good luck to who ever buys it.
  23. What the right price, and does it run or when was the last time it ran.
