Well here goes nothing.I am trying to pst some our older photos from the good old Durkin days.This first pic is our 1980 Dm800 with 60,000 rears and a Cat motor.It load that day was a Koehing 1166 hoe.Total weight somewhere north of 200,000 lbs.We moved it from south Jersey over to next to the philly airport.

Sorry guys I don't have any pic right now will have to dig them out.We were involved in the construction business in the philly area for about 80 years.Me and my two brothers gave it up around 2007.The work had pretty much dried up and the work that was out there didn't bring any money.Then you had to fight to get paid on top of that.I could never figured it out,when we had everything paid and owned noone nothing,we would lose jobs to guys that onwed nothing but a pile of payment books.Well I will get some of those pic out and try to post them.

Just had my R model out for a ride today.Didn't go all that far but she ran great.If I keep taking her out for some fun rides I may get the motor broke in.She only has 72,000 orignal miles on her.The only things I have replaced were some of the hoses and the fan belts.I will post some pictures when I get them.We are the orignal owners of this beauty,we had brought 20 r models,10 umodels,15 dm600 triaxles dumps all in 1979.

Sorry no pictures.We brought the u models only because the r models had to be built and they had the u model laying around cause Ryder trucking had ordered them and didn't take them.So my father went out and brought 10 more dump trailers to go along with the 20 he had already brought.We used them all on a job we had in Phila.Pa.They worked out well considering they were ment to be highway trucks and not be hauling over 70,000lbs.We would load them up to 80,000-85,000 lbs,went through some trans and rears.Mike Durkin

I am thinking about taking my cab off of my B87 tractor.I don't think the rust is anything major but I just want to know that I get all of it.There is some rusted out where the air cleaner mount to the cab,and along the back of cab has been repaied before.My family is the orignal owner of the truck so I want to do it right.Any suggestion on a good body man.Truck is located in Phila.PA Will travel to have good work done.Thanks Mike Durkin
  8. Kent,sorry you weren't looking about a year or so ago for your truck.I had 4 1979 r modles that were tamdan drive, I know you want a signal axle but these trucks all had less that 75,000 miles on them.I know because we brought them new in 79.That year we took 45 new mack.Mike Durkin

Maxidyne237,I know just what you are talking about.I'm in the early stages of restoring my 1964 B87 that has been in the family since new.My truck I would hop in and drive it across this great country of ours.It runs fine,it's showing it age after 50 plus years of pulling around a lowboy trailer.I don't want to start to think of the dollars that will be spent but I'm doing it cause it was the truck I learned to drive on.I have always loved this truck since I was a child.This truck was our 2rd B87 the first was brought new in 1958.Mike Durkin
  10. Speaking of all the red paint that was used on this truck,that is the way we ordered all of our trucks from Mack.We had everything but the motor painted red right from the factory.It was something my grandfather started and my dad did the same.Just my 2 cent.Mike

I am looking for a parts B87 truck that I can get some of the fenders from.I have mine but the driver side is a bit rough,nothing that can't be fixed but would be alot easily and cheaper to just find a another one.I could also use the 2 inner pieces that go from the fender to the frame.I will be posting this in the want ads also.Thanks Mike Durkin 215-669-1252 I am in eastern PA.

  14. It a heavy spec tractor.Triple frame,65,000lbs rears,20,000 front,335 cummins.Weighs in at 28,000 lbs.

Thanks guys for your input.I am not at the stage of removal yet,I am still deciding if I am going to have do it in the first place.I am finishing up with a restore of a 1956 Ford F600.I took the cab off of that one,the cab was on the ground in about 3-4 hours.It sounds like the B model is about the same just a little heavier.Thanks again and I will post pictures as it goes along.Mike Durkin

I am looking for some advice on taking my cab off my 1964 B87 tractor.Does anyone have the prints that the mounting,will try the my local mack dealer.I would like to do a total resto on this truck,we have owned it since new.It is in running condition my only worry is I can't see any major rust but who know once the cab is removed.Are there any body panals still avilable.Thanks for any help.Mike Durkin

I will get some pictures of the suspension today and post them tonight.The other B87 that we had,I think that Matt Phall has it to restore for a doctor.That truck is all orignal except for the cab,we replaced it back in the 80's with a concave cab.It make it alittle tough to drive if you are over 5'5" tall.The only difference between the two trucks is the early truck has a winch behind the cab.Both of them are triple frame and very heavy duty.I removed the front bumper from my truck and it must weigh the better part of 200lbs.

Here is alittle more infoemation on my B87.The motor is a Cummins NT335,with 65,000lbs rear,20,000lbs front axle.The weight of the truck is about 28,000lbs.To the best of my knowledge the truck has less than 250,000 miles on it.In 1983 we did a rebuild on the motor and at that time there was 146,134 miles on it.This truck was delivied on May 29 1964.It was in serviced daily for the next 20 years,at that time it was taken out of daily use when we brought a 1980 DM800,the other B87 was taken out of daily service back in 1975 when we brought our first of 2 DM800 both with the Mack V8 in them.This B87 was never taken much further than the city limits of Phia until we started to move out of the city for our work.I can remember taking the old dog on runs to Allentown,PA which was about a75 miles run.The only time I can recall it leaving the state was when we worked In Delaware and Maryland.The biggest problem with this truck was the mpg that it got.The truck carried only100 gallons of fuel,which would take us to Allentown and back.So when we ran to Maryland we always were looking for a fuel stop.This truck was the truck that I taught myself the fine art of backing up a trailer.The top speed is about 72mph and it doesn't take it all that long to get there.Thanks again Mike Durkin

This is a 1964 B873SX1117 that my father brought new.At that time we had already had a 1958 B87 that was being used to pull our lowboy trailer around.I have decided to try and restore this animal.It is in running condition and at this time I would drive it cross country,not that it would be a comfortable ride.I will try and post some photos of it.Thanks for looking Mike Durkin

You will also have to have a orignal death cert.,if the the truck was in the husband name.I am having a problem with Penndot also.I brought a 1956 ford f600 out in Montana and the wife sign the title but not the husband(he died),Penndot want a death cert.I would advise you if the husband has passed then just have the wife sign his name and no one will be the wiser.
