  1. Name: mack B87 (1964) Date Added: 01 January 2012 - 08:01 PM Owner: MikeD Short Description: We have owned this since new. View Vehicle
  2. I will get some pictures of the suspension today and post them tonight. The other B87 that we had,I think that Matt Phall has it to restore for a doctor. That truck is all orignal except for the cab,we replaced it back in the 80's with a concave cab.It make it alittle tough to drive if you are over 5'5" tall. The only difference between the two trucks is the early truck has a winch behind the cab. Both of them are triple frame and very heavy duty.I removed the front bumper from my truck and it must weigh the better part of 200lbs.
  3. Here is alittle more infoemation on my B87.The motor is a Cummins NT335,with 65,000lbs rear,20,000lbs front axle. The weight of the truck is about 28,000lbs.To the best of my knowledge the truck has less than 250,000 miles on it.In 1983 we did a rebuild on the motor and at that time there was 146,134 miles on it.This truck was delivied on May 29 1964.It was in serviced daily for the next 20 years,at that time it was taken out of daily use when we brought a 1980 DM800,the other B87 was taken out of daily service back in 1975 when we brought our first of 2 DM800 both with the Mack V8 in them. This B87 was never taken much further than the city limits of Phia until we started to move out of the city for our work.I can remember taking the old dog on runs to Allentown,PA which was about a75 miles run.The only time I can recall it leaving the state was when we worked In Delaware and Maryland. The biggest problem with this truck was the mpg that it got.The truck carried only100 gallons of fuel, which would take us to Allentown and back.So when we ran to Maryland we always were looking for a fuel stop. This truck was the truck that I taught myself the fine art of backing up a trailer. The top speed is about 72mph and it doesn't take it all that long to get there. Thanks again Mike Durkin
  4. This is a 1964 B873SX1117 that my father brought new.At that time we had already had a 1958 B87 that was being used to pull our lowboy trailer around.I have decided to try and restore this animal. It is in running condition and at this time I would drive it cross country, not that it would be a comfortable ride.I will try and post some photos of it.Thanks for looking Mike Durkin
  5. You will also have to have a orignal death cert.,if the the truck was in the husband name.I am having a problem with Penndot also.I brought a 1956 ford f600 out in Montana and the wife sign the title but not the husband(he died),Penndot want a death cert.I would advise you if the husband has passed then just have the wife sign his name and no one will be the wiser.
  6. I am looking at buying a 1956 Ford F600 with a 12' stake body from Kalispell,MT to Phila PA.I will be in the need of a trucker to move it back for me.Mike 215-669-1252 Thanks in advance
  7. I am restoring my 1979 r-model tractor. It has only 71,000 miles on it.I'm looking for a paint color for the interior of the cab.It appeares to be a shade of brown. Thanks for any help Mike Durkin
  8. I think the auction was in the mid 80's.We had an excavating company from Phila. and we used some of their trucks on a job we were doing back in 1979.They would never be able to operate in today's time like they did back in there haydays. The only thing they did better than tear down buildings was to party. We had one of there mechinic working for us until he retired. Some of the stories he would.
  9. John,you wouldn't have a number for that truck center?Thanks MIke Durkin
  10. Does anyone out know of a body shop that has replaced the roof panal on a R-model.I am located in the Phila PA area.I would like to have someone that has done it before to do it.I will be checking with my dealer. Also does anyone know the where about of a new cab for a r-model.My truck does not need a whole cab but if it was cheap enough I would replace it all.The truck has only 70,000 miles on it,we brought 20 of them new in 1979.This is the last tractor we have left.I like to use it to pull my antique caterpillar tractors and my B-87 around to shows. Thanks Mike Durkin
  11. Mackmann, where are you located at,I'm from Philly area.Who is that you are driving for?
  12. Matt,I see that you said you have some old Cats. What models do you have and where are you from?I to collect old Macks and Caterpillar tractor.I'm from Phila.PAMy Macks consit of only 2 for now. They are a 1964 B-87 tractor,1979 R model. We brought both of these trucks new.Good luck,by the way the mack musum is a great place with some super nice folks there.
  13. Rob,thanks you answered my question about the rain gutter.Mine in not rusted yet so I would like to keep it that way. Thanks again Mike Durkin
  14. Has anyone out there in Mack land ever cut off the rain gutter around the cab roof on a r odel? I was thinking of cutting mine off,so the water doesn't cause rust.My truck is a 1979 with only 70,000 miles on it.We brought a total of 45 macks that year and only have that one and one other that we converted into a box truck. The box truck is for sale. Thanks for any comments.
  15. That a nice looking R model with those low mileage.I have 6 1979 R models with all but one with having less than 100,000 miles. The one has around 50,000 miles on it.
  16. When I was buying my new CL700 with the 500hp v8 back in 1999 the dealer told me of these motor being mounted in fishing boat, that were putting out 1000hp.They got these hp from having a unlimited source of water to cool the motor.Mike Durkin
  17. I have one of those E9 V8's in my cl700.We use it to pull our lowboy trailor,we have had as much as 100 ton on it.Handled it very well.I was told that it was one of the last v8 500hp that mack built.Other than the black smoke it pours out the stack it great. We have it turned up to about 550hp maybe more.
  18. I live in Phila PA and could check out the trailor for you.Let me know where it is and anything else you think I need to know.Mike Durkin 215-669-1252
