Thanks for the help, I went with the Baldwin filter. it cost me 12 bucks. I cant use the mack boxed filters because I am using the B-model fuel filter. Fred

Damn Rob! Your droppin weight pretty fast! When you said that you were on Atkins diet and eating a pound of smoked bacon a day and loosing weight I thought you were pulling my leg.. but the proof is here. Keep up the good work! And when I drop my b61 parts off to have them painted you can put that chrome on there too. Fred

hi, I went to the mack dealer and they sold me baldwin filters... I have used them before and I liked the brand. I planed to use these filters to break in the engine to the truck and at restoration time install mack filters. Fred

I am working on installing a 237 into my B, I can't find a part number for the coolant filter on this engine, the normal sized filter is far to small. The filter threads on to a boss between the fan and the coolant manifold. It is about the same diam. as the oil filter. The engine is about a 78 model year acording to the casting dates on the block. It also had the extended service interval oil pan and three oil filters, I dont know if this makes a difference on the coolant filter. Thanks for any help Fred

Hi, I am in need of some axle shafts for sqhd rear end. The hub is 8 inches in dia and has 12 bolt holes, the part number is 3202-s-2983, I have found some for 125 bucks per axle shaft. I thought that was a bit pricey. If any one can help let me know. Thanks Fred cj5fred@aol.com

Hi Mike, I use a impact several times a day and by far the best one I have ever had is the IR brand titanium series. They are quite expensive but I believe to be the best. It is very light weight, impact resitant, and tons of torque.. I can get the model number for you if you like. Fred

Hey Rob, Sounds like you need to find a old dishwasher at a yard sale or something. works like a washer cabinet. Also soda or glass bead blast should not hurt your part at all. Fred

Hi, Don't even try to pin this on me... If My wife and yours started to conspire aginst us there would be Heck to pay!..... I have found a way to get her interrest in this hobby though.... I will hold up a Mack part at the shop and tell her what it is and how much it is worth... and to not let anyone else screw her out of it at the estate acution when I am dead and gone!! I have always got the guilt trip that I sold a truck to help buy the house..... Fred -

looks like a fine unit, I have a few of those wheels that did the same thing, the metal would come off in flakes and lots of white dust between. I bet she pulled better than the east coast r 700 with the double steel frame. If you like just leave it on the trailer when you return it.. ( of course get it running before you drop it off). As for dogs that follow you home.. this one is special.. it followed you home running backwards! Haha Fred -

Your looking about minus 25#......has sweetie put you on some kind of program or something??.ha Ha. glad to have you stop in and spend the afternoon "truck'n around". I was wanting you to check out the remodeld shop anyway's, The wife has now labeled the shop as the "skunk works" I like it, should be ready for project R-12 soon.... P.S. Chrome Radiator Shell

I had bought a old fire truck chassis and contacted mack for a build sheet. It had a factory installed chrome grille shell. I think that the firetrucks all had chrome shells and that trucks would be retrofit with the firetruck parts. I have had many friends that bought these trucks new and the first thing that would happen is the muffler was replaced with a chrome stack and the grille was replaced. But I believe that mack would build anything you could imangine and also Mack made most of their truck to order for their customers, so if you wanted chrome and know what part number to get then so be it. hi, Thanks for all of your great ideas on heating my shop, I have been hard at work insulating. I started with the pole barn side walls, installed 2x4 perlins on a 16" center. Rolled out the fiberglass insulation horizontaly and stapled it to the perlins. We then added some elctrical outlets about every 8 foot, and then covered the wall with some pole barn metal. I had a new roof installed on the whole barn this winter when a tornado removed a portion of the roof, so the barn tin is the old tin from the roof, I guess I am recyling. The perlins came from the pile of "scrap" lumber from when my house was built, lots of nails to pull out but I used it instead of it going to the land fill. I waited for menards to have a sale on insulation, and got a mail in rebate to boot. Sence the outllets are so close I used a lot of short pieces of romex for the wiring. I will have some before and after pictures soon I hope, It is already warmer in the shop, and I think the steel covering will help with fire protection. The ceiling is more barn tin suspended from the rafters and I will use blown in insulation up there, I used r15 on the walls and R 25 on the celing. I have at almost new wood furnace gave to me, 250,000 btu, It has a wood furnace on one part and a oil furnace on the other, If the wood fire was to go out or cant keep up the oil furnace will start up and keep the room temp consitant, also it is a furnace and will be installed in the shed portion of the barn away from the actual working space. What are you using for lighting, alot of shops have sodium lights, I have always had floresent t-12 cold start fixures, with the white walls the light is reflecting nicely with my tempory lights. Any thoughts? I have remotly mounted the air compressor in the shed and have pipes run in to the shop, I like this alot, much quieter and all the water that condensates in the lines is drained before it gets to the shop area. I wish I would have had the money to install hot water radant heat in the floor, I think that is the way to go now. Hi, I have been working on my pole barn tring to turn it into a shop, A few guys on this form have been to my place in the past few years and it needed some work. I recently moved ,and built a new house at the site of my barn. I have closed off a 35x56 ft end of the barn, poored a concrete slab and now am working on insulating and installing pole barn metal on the interior walls. I was wondering about installing a wood stove for heat, what are you guys using for a chiminy, Masonary or what? I have been told all different things. Also I would like here about your shop anything that you have found helpful for restoring old iron. Morgan I will post some pictures soon, when I get a chance..

I would like to invite all of you to the truck show at Elnora Indiana This weekend. We have the truck show in conjunction withe the antique show. Several things to do, Hundreds of tractors, treshing, Semi pulls, tractor pulls, Flea market, and the list goes on and on. Demonstrations of antique equipment all of the time. We will be having a meeting and pitch in dinner for the truck show guys on Saturday at 6:00 pm. The feature truck is Ford and We have about 60-70 truck show up. Looks like you saved a whole litter of Bulldogs, If I remember corectly that Mack made 2002 LT's , I think that every one that was made has been found by now. Looks like a wonderful find, did you find these close to home? Are they diesels or gas engines.. some have no engines at all from the pictures. Thanks for sharing your pictures. Morgan

Hi, When it comes to trucks, don't worry about the original color too much, So many trucks were painted shortly after they were purchased. Several companies wanted their trucks to match. Back in the days of regulated truck traffic you need to be leased to a company to have athority to haul anything, They wanted you to paint your new truck to match their colors you did it. So I would paint your truck any color you like... If you get one like mine chances are it was that color at sometime in its life already. Basicly no one will complain about color like the Correct Police in the car collector hobbies, most of us don't care if the numbers match. Fred -
my mack is very close to the same specs as yours and it weighs 13,600 pounds... b61, thermodyne, duplex, single frame, tandem camelback 38,000, alum. tanks. short wheelbase. Morgan

HI, I think that the code for the mack engines go kinda like this... EN stands for engine.. D stands for diesel,..... T stands for turbo, L stands for light weight model, and 673 is the series... although I think the cubic inch is 672 someone here will correct me. also I have seen some with a P. The P engines have a intake that has Two pipes. and a little more horsepower. That might help.. Morgan

I was also planing to go but a combination of problems got in the way, on being the record flood here in Indiana of the White river, we sand bagged for 12 hours straight on SAT and more on Monday. Maybe next year.. I hope to to take the truck.... Fred

Hi, I have read that 90weight mineral oil has the same viscosity as 50w engine oil. I went to look for 90w mineral oil and all I could find is 90w EP, the EP is for extreme pressure, The viscosity is much higher than 90w mineral oil. I looked at some old owners manuals for the b-series, It said to use 50w in all spicer auxilery transmissions and 90w mineral or 50w mineral oil in mack transmissions and 90w or 140w in rear axles. This was writen in the fifties and oil specs. have changed quite a bit sence then. I used 50w engine oil in all my transmissions and 90w in the rear axle ( I think Charlie got me a 5 gallon pail for me) so far everything works great, the trans shifts very smooth, not too much noise at all.
