  1. It looks like a 61 to 63 Olds.Across the street a Dodge or Desoto of early 50'S vintage.Joe D.
  2. If the new ones are anything like the old 24 volt start 12 volt run I would not want one.I imagine that everything on truck and trailer is 24 volt. If fleet is not standardized there will be problems in hooking up to 12 volt trailers unless some volt reducer is used. Then more to worry about. This is just my thinking I am sure someone with a better understanding could explain it better. Joe D.
  3. Secondi Bros. back in the 1970's had a bunkhouse upstairs was only a few bucks a night.Sleep with your pants on.I think there was a Ford Truck Dealership along with the KW Dealership.Joe D.
  4. Mark I know Al Villy pretty good. He came up to work with me when they rebuilt !-81 near Harrisburg 1985-86. I also used to go to Florida to work in winter and would work with Al there also. small world.Joe D.
  5. Tom. I sent you a personal message. Joe D.
  6. Have a good trip Paul. Joe d.
  7. Could also be that the flat surface of rack mounting where plate from U-bolt meets would not have enough area to secure properly if rounded part of U-bolt was used there. As frame has a radius on one side it will tighten better there.Being rack frame is aluminum if rounded part of U-bolt was used it would tend to distort ends of rack frame. Joe D.
  8. Tom nice picture of Smith+Solomon from New Jersey. The only trucks I see of theirs now are from the truck driving school they run. I think they run it out of the Petro in Dupont,Penna. Where are all those D-860'S now? Joe D.
  9. Maddog there was an old Mason-Dixon B-67 with the hard nose radiator and 10 speed Roadranger at a shop near my garage I do not see it there anymore. He could have put it inside or was going to get it restored. Joe D.
  10. I have 31R22.5 on lift axle and front axle of my tri-axle dump that works in Penna. They are rated for over 9000 lbs. depending on which manufacturer you chooser. Legally you are supposed to use a 9" rim with these tires. If you have the correct weight rating for tires, wheels and tag or pusher axle mounted with correct spacing between axles you should be ,legal. Quite a few fleets used that combination for years with no problems. Best is to check with DOT Officer or get information from PennDot.On a regular tag or pusher dual wheels are the norm but on a steerable pusher I never saw dual wheels. This is not to say they will not work but seems like they will scrub a lot. Joe D.
  11. Redhorse I think the Provan were R-700 with 8V-71 power. Thanks Joe D.
  12. GreenGiant2 Spicer made a 16 speed Model#PSO150-16A first gear 12.83 and .84 overdrive in high gear. It has a 1500 torque rating and takes a # 1 bellhousing. They also made Model PSO150-12 first gear 15.05 and .77 overdrive Torque rating 1400 pounds takes # 1 or 2 bellhousing.This information was from a 1992 spec sheet.Joe D.
  13. Better check the torque rating of the Spicer. I have a few 2 stick Spicers in trucks they are only rated for 900foot pounds torque. Mine of course are from the seventies. The big Spicers are rated for 1200 lbs. of torque. If your engine is high torque rise the 20 speed is not suited for it. Joe D.
  14. Why not get the 4 wheel locks. I have it and used it a few times it is worth it. Only problem is steering when locked in,it tend to want to go straight. It works the same principal as Detroit Lockers. Joe D.
  15. In order to get a Constructor Plate you had to have correct rears, and tires. Legally you could not register a truck that factory GVW was under 70,000lbs.I know people who did it but if weighed and not correct specs. trouble. I paid a few fines with Constructor Plates my gross was over 86,000 and Trooper called Supervisor and wanted to give me a ticket for over axles Supervisor told him over gross ticket only.Trooper was not happy. This was in late 80"s I do not know how it works today. I go to Jersey quite a bit so I imagine Constructor plate still used as there are tons of heavy tandems working and not loaded to 56,000. Joe D.
  16. I was at Gerhart's a few years ago and he had a few of those big H-Models not much left of them.Does anyone know why the big H and F-models were used instead of conventials? Thanks Joe D.
  17. Brocky I only remember the Macks. Its possible.Joe D.
  18. Vladislav you describe rear suspension as strange four spring. Most likely Reyco 101 or 102. It was a popular suspension in highway and fleet trucks until air ride became popular. It was lighter in weight than walking beam or camelback. Definitely a nono for off road work as it did not articulate very well or hold up in vocational work. Joe D.
  19. McBride from around Goshen Ny was a tank hauler with Macks in the 70'S.
  20. Mark thats nice. Proportioned properly with the short nose. Joe D.
  21. What is a truckstop without a Taco Bell,Burger King MacDonalds ETC Another reason I am about ready to retire.Joe D.
  22. Tom I send a message to you. Joe D.
  23. Matlack,Chemical Leaman,Tayton's Wellsboro,Pa Modern Trans. allentown Pa,Boss-Linco,Buffalo NY. they all had plenty of Macks. Joe D.
  24. Queensway, Northeast Delivery, Gilchrist Trucking from Old Forge,Penna. was pretty much an all Mack Fleet mostly F-Models. I was leased to them in 1980'S with my own 1977 F-Model 300 5 speed 34,000 rears on Camelback. It had air assist steering which was an improvement over non power steering. You pretty much had to get it backed in first shot or would run air down. Joe D.
  25. 41 chevynice. What drivetrain? I imagine flathead 6, 5X3.I do not think those cabs tilted. Joe D.
