  1. Thanks for replies. They were well built. I would imagine with all the compound shifts Mack did not want maintaince problems. Another question as the F-Model Mack and Brockway 400 cab were about the same would the shift tower work on a 400 series Brockway with split or married boxes. There were quite a few 400 Brockways with 4X4 trans but all I ever saw were the air shift ones. Thanks Joe D.
  2. Does anyone know what the H-67 in Colorado brought at auction 5 December in Colorado? Thanks Joe D.
  3. 57bcr That Valiant is a good start. Joe D.
  4. Same subject my question. Is the shift tower and linkage on a F-Model the same for a Duplex, Tri-plex and Quadbox ? The one in question is mounted to frame with sticks mounted that do not tilt with cab.Skips's post had me wondering. The one I have is a pretty good sized unit. Thanks Joe D.
  5. Larry correct on the Spoke wheels.I have a 70 KW same colors, problem is it has Budds. Joe D.
  6. Red Horse That is true Detroit Diesel Engines are avaible only in Freightliner and Western Star.My Brother and I run both Cummins ISX 565 in 07 9900 IH with about 750,000 miles on and 14 Liter 515 HP Detroit with 310,000 miles but I think 18,000 engine hours. The ISX 565 was pretty good but the Detroit had only one injector and computer as far as repairs in 9 years. Both trucks are due for replacement but both he and I are contemplating retirement. Joe D.
  7. Mike good deal. You must have found the money tree.Joe D.
  8. Not a tailgate opening story but quite the mess anyway. I was working in Jersey around Exit 9 on the Turnpike going about 60 MPH when driveshaft let loose and ripped the hydraulic line open along with air and electric lines. They had to close Turnpike down and have TP dump trucks bring sand to absorb the mess. I never received a ticket from the State or cost of cleanup. Towing and repairs were quite a bit as I remember this was in the 1990'S. Story still comes up at times in the huddle in mornings waiting to load. Joe D.
  9. Macks Thanks for the information.I am 63 years old and could retire but I always enjoyed my job and not want to retire. With all the new laws and economy not the best maybe its time.In Penna. we were are allowed 73,280 on 4 axles with not too much problems with the scales. That most likely will change now. I wonder how it will affect New Jersey 70,000 on 3 axles Constructor Plate no axle weights just gross.Joe D.
  10. Macks What is the law that says tri-axle dumps, mixers etc are to have a steerable lift axle in 2015? I work in Penna. and rumors are just starting to fly about it. No one I talk to has any confirmation if it is true.Luckily for me I ordered my truck in 2005 with a Hendrickson steerable axle. Some other drivers told me they are always breaking. It is onthere 9 years and no problems so far. Anyone else have any information about this law. Thanks Joe D.
  11. I forgot to add that on public service vehicles maintaince costs are absorbed easier than vehicles in private fleet where maintaince costs are closly monitored.I am not saying cost is no object with public service vehicles but the few I have dealt with had more free reign. Joe D.
  12. I am not familiar with disc brakes on class 8 trucks but in a DOT roadside inspection how would they determine lining left on pad or if rotor is in compliance? Self inspection would entail removal of wheels a lot of work. As gearhead said calcium chloride cause more maintaince problems on disc than drum brakes. Joe D.
  13. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Joe D.
  14. Bigdog if you are correct and I believe you are as you know the truck lots of luck to the owner on selling it. Joe D.
  15. I just looked at a spec sheet for MR it offers a 673E at 200 HP. 673's pretty bullet proof and parts avaibility better than Scania. Joe D.
  16. Did Mack use Scania Diesels in 1980? What was last year for Scania's in Macks? Thanks Joe D.
  17. I did not vote for the Socialist. I still believe in America as the best country in the world.I have been to over 30 Countries and Islands most places were enjoyable to visit and people friendly but I like the U.S. as my home. As far as building good products politics dictates that we and most of the developed world that products that are made are complex to comply with envoirmental rules that were brought about by the greenies. I think some new rules were needed but they are going too far.And yes Pawel I enjoy a free market much better than the controled Socialist one. This is only my opinion which I am allowed and encouraged to have in a free society.Pawel for some reason you seem to put little jabs in about America and how Socialism is better,if I am wrong about this I apologize. Joe D.
  18. When specing a vocational truck trans first things on my list would be startability and gradability as fuel mileage will not help you out sitting there with a twisted driveshaft or u-joint broken. I personally think most salespeople are worried about the engine sweet spot for fuel mileage and RPM.Vocational trucks are a whole different world. Just my 2cents. Joe D.
  19. The 315 80 R22.5 uses a 9" rim. It will fit on a 8.25" rim but is not recommended.The 9" rim has a heavier weight rating than the 8.25" rim.Joe D.
  20. My cousin has a Funeral Home.He seems to have a good sense of humor. I see for sure. Joe d.
  21. If the auxiliary trans. is stuck in gear you can use a long rod and hammer to align shift rods again. I have a Brockway with a 5x4 trans. and if you do not shift the aux.trans. square at times it will lock up.Joe D.
  22. How much weight can they put on that trailer in Michigan? It looks to be about 32' long not high sides. I know Michigan Trains gross out heavy. I would not want to make many turns with 5 axles. Joe D.
  23. Go to any parts house that sells PTO'S or rebuilds trans or rears. If there is a shop that installs dump or packer bodies they will get it for you.It is a common part that bolts to PTO. No brackets are needed with the correct part. Joe D.
  24. Looks like a green dash to me. Joe D.
  25. When sellers at auction have bidders in the crowd bidding the item up for them the person doing the bidding is called a Schill. I think 220 Cummins better described them as a "Douche". Joe D.
