I always just tightened mine down...although Im sure they do probably call for a certain torque. That sounds just about natural for that 7 speed...I drove one for many years and I could probably count the number of times on one hand I was able to switch ranges without getting that racket. I know the only way I could ever flip ranges was with while going thru neutral. The new ones may be a little different but you cant flip ranges with it in gear. Them 7 speeds are pretty noisy..but they are a really good tranny durability wise.

I have seen a bunch of them..just not sure what kind they were. Never owned a truck with one either. I remember some RD800's having them in the mid and late 90's but I really dont think they helped that much.

No More Rocker For E6 2 Valves!
mudslut28 replied to fullfuel01's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Ahhh thats so cozy for Volvo..... lets discontinue all the parts for the older Macks so they will have to buy our newer pieces of $***!!! NICE!!! -
Those 800's pictured are Massey Energy company trucks. Its impossible to have a rougher life than these trucks have had. 90% of the drivers are trainees and most of their trucks end up wrecked. Notice how it marks its parking place? LOL As a general rule of thumb after dealing with this dealership for many years for parts.... Team Worldwide=Find another dealer!!! They suck! Thankfully we have other places around that do a far better job of selling parts.

WV allows 120k with a 3 axle wagon(trailer). I think its around 112k with a normal 2 down wagon. A tri-axle is good for 90k while I think a tandem is good for 80k. All of these are allowed a 5% variance for fuel and mud. These extended weights are for coal only..not real sure what the aggregate weight allowances would be.

Is Volvo Good Or Bad For Mack Trucks?

Ill go with that.. I always considered a Volvo a "disposable" ride anyways...notice I stopped short of calling it a truck? -
Is Volvo Good Or Bad For Mack Trucks?

If you are familliar only with the Granite era than you cant call yourself a real Mack fan because they really are not Macks. Sad but true. Also you are cheating yourself if you would never buy anything older. If you havent heard anything bad about the mp7's and mp 8's you havent been listening very closely. I work daily with a fleet of them...the ONLY thing good I will say about them is the engine brake. Its an improvement over the E7....but powerwise and mileagewise...not even close. They are in my way with the same weight and use around a half gallon more (short coal haul offroad) fuel per trip. The Granites I run with are all 06 and 07's. My E7 400 (92 model) with 21000 hours on it is still beating them on uptime. Just riding in one and having to live with them daily is completely different. The only thing Mack on those Granites would be the camelback suspension and rears. The rest is hybrid Volvo. Sorry to sound harsh but the truth is the truth...if I ruffled your feathers I am sorry. We arent even gonna get into the trash they are selling with the "triple" frames for the heavy offroad apps that they deemed worthy to replace the beloved rd800's. I have seen a bunch of them already getting the frame plated. I can assure you the frame on my 76 DM 800 has never seen anything resembling a day it thought about breaking. After 31 years and literally millions of tons of coal...35-45 tons a trip....it still runs every day! Its damn near criminal what Volvo has done to us! -
E9 Exhaust Bolts - Why $15 Each?

Anti-seize and PB Blaster are 2 things I cant work without -
Glad ya got it taken care of Rob! Herb I have been through the broken mounts, insulators and even the insulator bolts coming loose if you have heard of that. The biggest pain I ran into on the 6 speed in my old truck was losing the threads in the side of the tranny where the hanger bolts to it. You can run it with 3 but it is nearly impossible to keep them tight. Another thing that will cause it right before things get really big is loose bellhousing bolts. Believe it or not I have seen a couple of trannies break completely free of the motor... Talk about a mess...lol. It wasnt my truck but it was a good lesson just by watching to always use new bolts and clean the threads out extremely well..lol. Nice to look back at this stuff now and laugh but it sure didnt seem funny at the time
-
Rob dont worry bout being able to find the insulators. I buy them pretty regularly for my 2...best to buy the whole kit. Much cheaper that way. If I can find one of the boxes I may even be able to give you the part #.

I will add here and I know most will back me....but new technology is not always superior technology(see the new Mack wanna be Volvos). Bulletproof is as good as it gets...theres straight cut gears from one end of a Mack to the other and they are there for good reason....because they WORK...and are almost impossible to break unless you just flat try to kill them.

E6 350 4v Short On Power, Worse Than Ever, Gutless!
mudslut28 replied to treemuncher's topic in Engine and Transmission
Those e6 4v's were never noted for being big on power. They almost always need a shot of fuel if you want them to pull and for me they never even responded to that the way the 2v's did.. I had the e6 3004v and above 1600 power was non-existent. Torque seems to be their big thing. I'm betting yours is starving for fuel. I always turned mine up and watched the pyro to tell me when i got where I needed to be. -
Help no possible!! :user shaking head: LOL
-
I get a headache when I ever seen the word trunion now..lol. We had an inch gun at word for those saddles. Sure did help although the lighter Mack suspensions sound quite a bit different from the 50k's and 60k's.
-
Well its a normal double frame truck but it is cracked on one side so both sides were plated about 3-4 feet long inside and out....thus the quad frame.
-
All of them I have seen cracked were behind the cab...I have one thats quadruple framed behind the cab myself..lol.
-
Theres definitely a need here...but after the trashy junk supposedly heavy Granites they have been selling and touting them as the replacement for the rd800 when they are actually a doule frame r model with an extra frame rail. I would say the window of opportunity has passed. I have already seen several of these "trucks" with the frame broke. Complete trash!! Volvo should be thanked for this one as they have just about completely weaned anyone from ever wantin a Mack for off road coal haulage. I mean think about it..how many 07's have you guys seen with the frame plated already? Thanks again Volvo... The price just keeps climbing on the pre-98 RD800's and the DM800's are still bringin strong prices as well. They have allllmost accomplished their goal of destroying the Mack name. The funny part is the guys around here just bust out laughing when anyone mentions a Volvo. Western Star, International and Kenworth are now the big sellers over here.....how pathetic is that? BTW Im still lookin for a Granite with anything resembling power...they tout these motors as being so strong but they are even in the way of the E7's. Completely gutless on the bottom and a powerband of about 1450-1800 rpm's...but hey they do have the edge on engine brake over the E7's.
-
LOL When I see the price it costs to get shop work done sometimes I think Id be much better off working on them than I am trying to run them.
-
That sounds encouraging cause my E7 is up to almost 17000 hours now. I change ALL filters every 250 hours. Maybe wasteful but definitely cheaper than the alternative.
-
LOL Sometimes I wonder if you really hurt a Mack motor by turning them up. My old truck would and will turn the whole side of the motor (turbo and manifold and pipe) orange on a hard pull. If you lugged it down on a hard pull and turned the bed lights off you could see flame out the pipe as well. When I overwound by running away...it dropped a valve. Well when i tire it down to put a head and piston on it the liners and pistons still looked like brand new(with the exception of the one with a chunk of valve in it...lol). In fact the numbers were still visible on the pistons. This was after 5 years of that much fuel. Hard to kill a 2 valve Mack..lol. The bottom end wont break but they will break a valve if overwound far enough in my experience.
-
Yep towards the front of the truck....
-
Its an E7-400. 8LL and 58 rears. Haul coal with it.
-
Hehehehe you guys have made my day here...this thing will fit right on my 92. Im gonna make some off brand babies go crying to daddy lmaoo!!
