Thank you. Wish the weather here wasnt so crappy so I could actually get out to the shed and start tearing apart one of the B's. Busy plowing snow at nights..but this is what we live for in Wisconsin....

Yup. I live just around the corner from there. I drive truck and farm, every weekend/part time, for the owner of the R model. He keeps me out of trouble and always working on the side doing truck and tractor maintenance. And yes, 237 motor. It was just put in before I purchased the B model. Maybe has 200 miles on the rebuild. Pleanty of power for the truck. She is pretty straight and the interior leaves room for improvement. But so does my other B model. Everything else works on it. -
Thought that seeing as the temp yesterday in Wisconsin was around 5 deg, it would be a good time to haul home another project. 1961 B61. She has a newer 273 turbo motor, but she did not want anything to do with starting at that temp. So I used an air hose from the R and aired the tanks, released the brakes and winched it on. Got alot of looks going down the highway. Only had to haul it about 80 miles. I could have driven it the day before when I was there to drive it and pay for it. I thought it was cool having the younger generation Mack hauling the older generation. So I thought I would send a picture for the rest of the group who would enjoy.

Good morning. I am finially getting around to restoring a 1956 B61LT that I purchased from a guy in the north woods of Wisconsin years prior. It was the last item in an estate sale of his late father and nobody knew where or if it had been titled in recent years. The price was right and I purchased it anyway. Now, while starting to restore, I thought I would at least attempt to title it under my name. After contacting the Wisconsin DMV, I was told, bluntly, that I could never re-title this vehicle in wisconsin without the original title and it would have to be used for parts only. As much as I love the DMV and being told I cant do something, I am bound and determined to stick it to them somehow. My question is: do I purchase a title and vin number from some scrap yard, if so who, where and how much should it cost? Or I was thinking that I could title and register it under Hobbiest plates, as being a home built unit. I have recently seen Wisconsin hobbiest plates on one or two old semi tractors at the local truck and show. I am just restoring it to take to local shows, and have fun burning fuel and bellowing black smoke. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Thanks guys for all the info. I will clean it and check to see if I can get the right numbers. Sounds like it will not give me the lower ratio than 1 to 1 that I am looking for. I will have to start looking into rear carriers with a 4.0 ratio instead. Just thought I'd try the transmission as it was given to me for free. It was in a pile with 2 other single stick 6 speeds collecting dust in my neighbors barn. Thanks again.

Hi all. It is a 2 stick. I have attached more pics. There are some numbers stamped on each side that are not the same. It has some alum grinded off of the case where the numbers I believe should be. Looks like a coat of gold paint on under the oil and grease.

Can someone help me with the transmission ratios for this trans. The only numbers I can see are as seen in the picture. I am told it came out of a mid 80's R model. I am looking to see if I can use it in my B-61 to replace the TR-72. I am hoping it has a .86 final ratio. My TR-72 is 1 to 1 in the final and coupled to the 4.6 rear, my top speed is only 52mph. I am not sure it will even bolt up to my 673. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can not sipher any of the numbers on the casting to the service manuals that I have. Thanks.

Thanks for all the great info. I will try to look for the right carrier for my original rearend. Is it probably cheaper to get a newer style rear end out of a newer Mack, with a gear ratio that is close? I know a few bone yards around my neighborhood. Is it fairly easy to swap complete rear ends or is there a lot of cobling involved to get it in there? Just asking. Thanks again.

After getting my B-61LT up and running on it's maiden voyage, the highest road speed I can get out of it seems to be 52 mph. The rear end numbers are CRD78-460-29. It has the original size tires 10.00 x20 with the original TRDL-67 trans. Any suggestions on what ratio to switch to to get around 65mph at 2100 rpm, or somewhere in that area? Thanks.

I recently changed my rear quick release valve on my B-61. It does not seem to release quickly. The only way I can get it to release somewhat quickly is to crack open the supply line. Is it possible that the new valve is bad or is there some adjustment on them. I only have the original service manifolds on the rear and the front brakes were removed. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Does anyone have any ideas how to seal up the fuel filter canister? I bought and installed a new fuel filter on my END673 B-61 and the old cap seal and the new one seem to have a larger OD and I cannot seem to get them to seal. It keeps mushrooming over and blowing out after it is pressurized. After the 5th attempt, I am looking for ideas. Thanks.

The large diameter filter has 2 large lines coming in from the bottom. There is a second smaller Purolator filter with a bronze screen and wiper that has 2 small lines feeding it. Attached is a pic of the smaller filter. This one I was able to clean up and solder the outer canister where it was cracked. Trying to find a new oring for the canister seal now. -
I recently refurbished the 40 gal square tanks on my B-61lt. Trying to find tank straps for them. The Mack straps I recently picked up from the Mack shop were wider at 2 inches and the t bolt was also larger. I would have had to drill out the mounting brackets and I didnt want to do that if I didn't have to. I believe the straps were 43 inches from t bolt to t bolt and 1 1/2 inch wide. Does anyone know of any place to purchase the correct straps. Thanks.
