A few things to make sure of...when you "save as" make sure it is adding the correct file extension...if it is blank, picture viewer may not open it... Depending on how the page is programmed, you may be saving a "page" with the picture embedded in it...pictue viewer will not open an ".html" file If you ever run into images that only let you right click and save on the thumbnail...try to "save target as". this will work because the page with the thuumbnail has code which "opens" the large image, depending on teh software used to create the page, it will save the proper large sized bmp or jpg image.

Dang! You are only 5 miles from Sperry! I work for USG and have visited our plant in Sperry in years past... -
Don't be sad and wear that frown... Just because your Mack is down. I made a video of me and my pup... In the hopes that I can cheer you up!

Thermostat
leversole replied to leversole's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Well, here is what the thermostat looks like for those that have not seen one...put it in a pan of water and tested it. It opens at 155 degrees just like it is supposed to! This is not the problem....hmmmmm Took me a little while to figure out how this thing is supposed to work...the hose from the bottom comes from the oil cooler and allows that water to flow to the radiator even when the thermostat is blocking the discharge from the water manifold Down at the the bottom is the seal that the thermostat fits in to the seal off the water from returning to the radiator, you can see in this picture the seal is completely gone! That is why the truck would never reach opearting temperature, the water was free flowing thru the system. A quick trip to the Mack dealer and $40 later I have all the parts I need, gasket, O rings, water conditioner cartridge, even new check valves for the water water conditioner. Put it all back together, no leaks and the truck builds heat now much better than it did before...had 145 degrees pretty quick, as it was cold today that is all of the heat that I got, but the radiator was not hot (exept for the oil cooler heat). I think it is a worthwhile quick project which might help your engine and block! The water conditioner helps eliminate scale and rust buildup in the block...my conditioner looked new, but the check valves were NOT working, both were seized up! -
Which model is it? Just started checking them out...

Have you noticed the mass media and retailers have totally IGNORED Thanksgiving? The only thing on TV is BLACK FRIDAY! I am so tired of hearing about Black F'in Friday! Went to WalMart today and every spare inch of space (even out side where the lawn and garden stuff is) is crammed full of shrink wrapped crates of CRAP marked Black Friday Sale! As usual, I do not venture out on the Friday after Thanksgiving, dont want to have to beat down some retard for shoving me outta the way to get the last pair of corduroy slippers!!! Happy THANKSGIVING to all!

Interior shot for Leversole

Cant remember what I was looking for! Is that a factory doghouse? Thanks though -
I have read all of the posts regarding building heat in our old trucks. People (like me) complaining that they never get above 120 degrees. One glaring questions stands out for me, if my 160 degree thermostat is working, would it not hold the coolant IN the engine until it reaches 160 degrees? I think the issue is our old thermostats leak through, or are stuck open, which accounts for the trucks not getting to operating temperature... I am going to pull mine out today and replace...I would think running our engines 20-40 degrees below operating temperature would result in incomplete combustion and lots of buildup on top of the piston! Thoughts? Leslie

NJU on Ebay
leversole replied to Superdog's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
"In 1941-42 for sappers Mack built 700 cabover tractors NJU1 (4x4) with the EN532 engine (8,7 l, 136 hp), 10-speed transmission and pneumatic brakes. The trucks were used to tow the pontoon elements. The tractors had a big box behind the cab, where was located a winch, hitch-mechanisms and cables. Variants: Mack NJU1 - the truck to transport the pontoon elements. Some of these trucks were used by British troops in Egypt. In 1941 about 700 units were produced. Mack NJU2 - the truck without cargo box behind the cab. Used for carrying semi trailers of Topographic Service. In 1941, 8 units were made. All trucks had closed cab the same with the commercial model series C. Behind the front bumper a winch was located. Totally about 708 units were made." Coupla more pics... -

That thing is cool! Which I had a place to keep it...I would get it running and haul it to shows in its present condition and jsut drive it around the show grounds! -
Did my FA-517 last year...looks like the same style and parts as my kit...I "borrowed" some large bushing drivers from work and pounded the new seals in...the hardest part of the job by far was seperating the steering arm joint to get the knuckle off!! Other than that, the job went pretty good...I took the tire/rim off seperately as I neede to blast and paint all of the parts.

Thanks for all of the comments...E9 would be my first choice! E6 next...just speculating if a great superliner at the right price came up with a non mack engine which might be better than the other.
