  1. Too cold?!?!?
  2. Thanks for the photos! Exactly what I needed! What thickness is the angle iron? If that is yours (the primered one, that is beautiful work! Leslie
  3. Dont know about the straps, but here is a sorce for the rubber strips if you want new... Tank straps
  4. Can anyone share a close up picture of two of how a fifth wheel is mounted to a truck with tandems and the cast iron "stand"...looks like I would have to notch the angle to clear the tops of the stand. Trying to figure the correct way to utilize an angle iron bolt on type... Thanks Leslie
  5. I guess I set myself up for that!
  6. Here are my two girls...1964 DuoGlide and an '07 Road King Classic
  7. Nice! Couple of Y-Class' pulling and one pushing! Lots of horsepower there!
  8. After weeks of swapping positions, playing with air pressure and other fruitless tasks trying to eliminate the incredible bouncing at certain speeds, I think I will buy 10 new tires. The local tire service center sells most brands...are there any recomendations? I will be buying new (or used) dayton style rims (getting rid of the two pc tube type rims) and 11R24.5 size tires...obviously don't need a high speed or load rating for a hobby truck, AND want to spend as little money as possible! Thanks for any suggestions as to brand and model... Leslie
  9. Any more thoughts?
  10. Wouldn't it be easy to take off springs and all by unbolting the entire trunnion (if that is what the cross shaft between the springs and the support) and bolting in the new one? Would all Mack camelback rears have the same side to side spring spacing? or would they be different between say, 44K and 38K springs? None of the manuals I have give much detail on removing the rears from the truck... What about the wheel Hubs? If the rears I get have 20" daytons, can I replace with my 22" daytons? I think a 90's CRD 92/93 setup (with the 4.42 ratio I want) with modern brakes for $2500 would be worth the money to me...just swap everything execpt the trunnion mount (mine is cast) Thanks Leslie
  11. What if the axles are different (course, fine), just change the axles? Then axle caps? Do all of the CRD's (92 and 93) have the same basic casting? That is the drop-in, wheels, hubs would interchange? Thanks
  12. Looks like an entire rear end swap might be cheaper than other ways to change the ratio...Are the springs for say, and early model (1965) CRDx and a later model the same size? What I mean is would it be a good swap to just unbolt the spring "clamp" and roll the rear ends out, then roll the new ones in? Are all camelback attach springs the same (I mean the bottom, or longest spring that attaches to the rears)?
  13. Amen brutha! Thought spring was here...been sunny, mid 50's, snow all gone...got about 10 inches (of SNOW!) last night! This working in the driveway is for the birds!!
  14. Even after you think you have them all off of you, there is always one $@#^%##*(&$&^$^#^ bastard that crawls all the way up to your neck, even if it takes thirty minutes, before he bites you! I bet it is pretty funny seeing a grown man roll a tiny insect up in his fingers over and over while cursing the m-f'er, then slamming it to the ground as if this final act of power will make him feel superior somehow! I HATE Mother-*($#$*#*$(#$*#@(*$%^ FIRE ANTS!
  15. You looking at trackpass on the computer while watching the race? I do!
  16. worked HARD today...swapped 6 wheels around trying to get rid of the out'ta control hop between 38-42 mph...made it worse...swapped them all back, it was even worse! Must have not gotten the front rears or the fronts on perfectly straight! Now in addition to the hop, I got wobble at most speeds! At least it was 60 degrees and sunny today! I have places hurting where I didnt even know I had places! PS...Advice...DO NOT let your wheels fall flat on the ground, it AINT fun standing them back up!
  17. Lotsa pete's and kw's...they need one of US to host one!
  18. On the 93/93 crd rears, can you change the bevel gears without removing the housings? Havent checked the numbers yet to see if I can get what I want with just an upper gear change, but I want to change the 5.73 to a 4.42... The way I see it I can change our the bevel gears, swap the entire differentials, have mine rebuilt with the gears I want, or get a cutoff with the ratio I want. Thanks
  19. Close your eyes now...we are following the lead of Ford, Chevy, and Dodge...think Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger...now...are you still with me?...Big beautiful bright red 2012 B Model...air ride cab, air ride seat, air ride suspension, tilt-telespcoping wheel, power windows and door locks, AC, powers steering, 700HP with an 18spd, seven inch twin stacks............. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted, if the factory did this, they would probably want $500K for it!
  20. After lying awake all night listening to the 50mph wind shaking the entire house....got up and researched impact wrenches...the cheapo Chicago Pnuematic I have had for thirty years doesn't have enough torque to get out of its own way, so it is time to upgrade. Went to Sears and got one that has 750 ftlbs of torque...that oughtta get them lug nuts off after breaking loose! I have a nasty whole truck shake between 39 and 42 mph...gonna swap the wheels around and see if that helps, but it is just too windy to go outside today! You want something funny eh? A fish swimming in a lake bumps into a wall, what does he say? Damn!
  21. Anyone have any experience pulling a 5th wheel RV with any truck like ours? (old Mack hobby trucks) There are a few websites which decribe crappy volvo conversions with all the bells and whistles and special fifth wheels, etc... What I am looking to do is use a standard fifth wheel (so the truck "looks" right)...curious about the height differences, truck spring stiffness (I read that our stiffer springs can crack RV frames), pin diameters, etc... THanks in advance....
  22. Pi$$ed myself! Allan! Allan!
  23. I had 'mater out on the highway today...45 degrees and sunny...anyway, It was a little warm in the cab so I reached down and pushed open the vent with my figertips (belly/steering wheel interference!!). Well about one minute of that and it got real cold...of course I couldnt reach it to close it, didnt want to pull over, when , aha! Poked around with my foot and pulled it closed with the back of my foot! Anyway, had a great ride. I'm sure many of you already know this trick....just saying...
  24. Even my wife laughed at that one!
  25. Is there an easy way to modify it to work? I assume you are talking about the outer tube... is it to big on the truck? Can you could chuck the wheel up in a lathe and open it up? Or somthing else... Thanks
