  1. Right where it is supposed to be! Not an ENDT number though, anybody know what I have exactly?
  2. Am I looking in the right place?!? Or is it under that welded plate! Thanks
  3. Is this the engine model number (first pic) and serial number? Any engine details jump out?
  4. I could probably figure these out eventually! What are they? Here are my guesses... First one is relay valve to not allow front brakes (slippery normal switch on dash) Second is the valve that gives all air to main tank before other air devices?!? Thanks
  5. Still trying to get the floor out! Looks like a homemade firewall...have to get that out before I can pull the floor...firewall looks homemade, like they had to do it because of the engine change?!? I can't believe the brake pedal is not mounted to something more substational than some thin sheetmetal... The floor is already cut and damaged, I may just cut out an access for the top of the clutch, and put a nice piece of metal with stiffeners in to replace...
  6. This shifting business don't come easy! After driving 6 loops (2 or 3 miles each on curvy backroads), I am struggling to shift this monster... Call me a nerd, but I built a spreadsheet with with all of the ratios so I can "guestimate" rpm drops to help me shift... On this last loop, I suceesfully (for the first time) downshifted the main from 5th to 4th...normally, any attempt to downshift either stick results in a complete stop to start agian! 1700 rpm feels and sounds like it time to shift...I wonder if I am not letting wind up high enough...cruising around at 12-1300 seems about right, maybe I am running the engine too slow... Also, I have not been able to make a two stick shift, end up stopping and starting again! Those videos make it look sooooooooo easy! I guess I shouldnt complain...I only have about 20 miles under my belt...I will get it!
  7. After reading most of the posts on 24v to 12v conversion, alternators, batteries, etc... My truck has been converted to 12 volt (two batteries) negative ground. Even with fully charged batteries, the truck cranks about half a trun, then stops, continue to hold the key, and it will turn over and start, but very slow cranking, I am wondering if they left the 24 volt starter in? How would the 24 volt starter act with only 12 volts? I will get under her tomorrow and find out the voltage if I am able... Thanks
  8. Just wanting to pull the dash out and get a look at things back there...what must be disconnected before the dash can be pulled out a few inches? Tach cable? Speedo cable? Do you just have to reach up behind there to get the stuff loose? I took the screws out and could not pull it back at all! Thanks
  9. Looks like I will be trying to get the floor out tomorrow! Dosent look very easy, as there are several smaller plates and EVERYTHING is rusted shut! I just hoper there are lots of shims! Thanks
  10. I know the motor is a later model, and the transmission is not the original, can you tell from this photo if it is a puch type for sure? Thanks
  11. I was told that I have a dual disk clutch. Is there a way to "tighten" it up? It slips pretty good in high gear...The pedal linkage is not holding it off so I think the adjustment there is okay. Is there a way to increase the pressure? Thanks
  12. Sho nuff! I found a picture I took when I looked at the truck before buying and there it is! Now off to get a spring! I dodged another bullet! You sure are a Know-it-all! (and I am glad!) Thanks AGAIN!
  13. Dumb question... Is there supposed to be an exteral return spring? It looks like there is a place for one... I took the governer cap off (I assume that what that is, and if I pull the pedal linkage forward (closed) the assembly inside moves. I am wondering if I just lost the external return spring?!? Thanks
  14. Bad Dawg! On the second shakedown run, I hit a bump and jammed the throttle all the way down and it stuck! Luckily I had sense enough to pull the fuel shutoff and get her whoa'd up. Looked for obvious issues, could not find anything, the actuator going into the injector moves and the shaft turns, but there is no resistance, dont know if it pushes against something that may be hung up, or how it works...thought I was goin to have to call a wrecker ($$$)...but I got it home modulating the fuel cut off...kept it right around 1600rpm! Had to make a few hills working the cutoff, so suffice to say, I was out of breath when I got it home! Anyway, is it terminal, or is there something I can dissasemble and "unjam" Thanks
  15. Thanks! THat must of been it. I just moved one of the rails slightly and all is well. I was porbabably going fron lo to direct in a circular motion instead of up and over...lesson learned!
  16. I searched the forum and found nothing, but I read about this somewhere?!? Anyway, on the first drive I got the compound shifter hung up...dont know what gear it is in, but I cannot change it. How do I "unjam"? Other than that, I realize I got lucky last night, shifting this thing at speed is going to take some serious practice! Thanks
  17. I am just down the road about a mile from the truck stop!
  18. Unbelieveably cool! My truck showed up after dark tonite... I had it all planned out, we were going to unload across the street from my house at the big church parking lot. I was going to putt around there getting used to the truck and learning to drive it as I have never driven a truck bigger than a 3/4 ton pickup! After I got comfortable, I would attempt to run it up my steep driveway and park it behind my house until morning. Well...I met the driver at the I-80 exit and led him towards my house...big truck and BIG trailer! I talked to him on the cell phone to find out how he had to unload it, front, back, seperate the tracktor/trailer, etc...he said we need to get completely off the road...well...the church was having thier big Halloween party! Completely full parking lot! No Go! We ended up going to a bar parking lot about 1/2 mile from my house. My son and I helped him unchain it and set up the ramps, he unloaded it and parked it (I guess the maxi spring brakes are trust worthy, they hold it on a hill!) Okay, the moment of truth...with only one headlight, no tailights, I gotta get this monster home. I feel around on the floor to figure where the brake and throttle are (it was completely dark in the cab) I put it in 2nd lo-split and released the brake, off I go...the only thing I know about shifting this behemoth is from watching the twin stick videos about a 1000 times! Anyway, no traffic so I cross the highway onto my road, Man o' man this thing is cool...accelerate and shift the compound to direct with just a blip of the throttle, hey, this works! Okay, slowing down for a sharp curve and about a hindred church goers coming the other way and back to lo-split...accelerate again, blip, shift, cool! Got into what a pilot would call "Pilot induced ocillation", truck is jerking, my throttle foot is jerking, back and fourth, hey, I am going to 3rd gear...this is one of the coolest things I have ever done! Okay, gotta slow down a little...WTF? Somehow both sticks are in neutral! I read somewhere this was bad! I tried a few gears and various RPMs and finally got it back into gear! Anyway, swing wide and turn into the drive way, stopped and put it into 1st and direct and crawl up the driveway. Parked it, let it idle for while, I was shaking with excitement...this is going to be soooooooooooooooo cool...I wont sleep a wink tonight, but at first light I will check the fluids and continue my education on the backroads! This is going to be fun, fun , fun!!!! Now, she is home, sleeping, and quiet (no air leaks) awaiting the beginning of her next life.
  19. If a person had only one day...would it be better to come Friday or Saturday? What time will most people arrive Friday? Thanks
  20. Looked at the pictures from the Watts mack show (2009)... Does the Red B?? Model with Zimmell (I think) named Miss Betty belong to anyone here? What a beautiful truck! I was looking for more pictures if a member here or if anyone knows where other pictures might be... THanks
  21. Wondering if anyone can help me... I need a quote to haul a <14000lb Mack tandem from Cairo NY to Milton PA...mileage is aproximately 233... Thanks Leslie
  22. All good info! Thanks... This goes along with the ratios listed for the TRTL 72 in my only B-61 brochure which lists 5Direct as 1.00 and .85 ratio for 5 Hi Split. Would the others be the same same ratios for all years of the same model transmission? Thanks All
  23. Thanks all....I found out it is a TRTL 72...now I just need to figure out what gears it has! I assume the museum can tell me given the serial number... I have a 1961 B-61T brochure that lists the ratios for a TRTL72, just wonder if they are the same as a later model...
  24. Let me say first I dont have the truck here yet or I could answer my own question... The truck had been listed as a triplex. When I was running the engine I noticed the shift plate (and the chassis record) say quad...on the compound stick I could not find or select LO LO, which made me think they changed the transmission when they changed the engine (to a 1973 I think ENDT675). However, it struck me this morning that maybe there is a physical lock to prevent shifting into LO-LO unless the main is in 1st? Whilst looking for LO-LO with the engine running, the main was in nuetral. Just trying to figure out if it is 15 or 18.... Thanks
  25. As I dont have any service information yet, what is in this air cleaner? Is the bottom bowl full of oil? "Holy" screen inside? Or a filter? How do you check and clean? Thanks
