Positive or negative ground B Model
nasty51ford replied to nasty51ford's topic in Electrical, Electronics and Lighting
Hi, there is NO ground to the frame right now, and no radio, or CB in the truck, and I haven't been able to get that close to the solenoid to tell how many wires going to it yet. When you mention the Negative cable from the terminal, are you referring to the terminal that it is attached to on the front of the starter? -
While looking my truck over yesterday, I was trying to figure out if it had been changed to a negative ground, since it has had an alternator installed, I followed the positive side of the battery cable to the solenoid, and the negative side battery cable, goes to the front of the starter. Is the front of the starter being used as the ground? As far as I can see, it looks like it is set up as a 12 volt starting system. But I was hoping to see one of the battery cables grounded to the frame, so now I'm still not sure! Lol B ut I would imagine that the lead going to the solenoid on the starter is the positive, and the one bolted to the front of the starter is the ground. Is this correct? Keith

No Connection: Saw this on Ebay I can't paste anything in these posts, don't know why, but it won't let me ! There is a TRD 67 trans on Ebay, that is how it is listed, under Ebay Motors, Parts and Accessories, Vintage Parts, Transmission and Drivetrain, it is at 150.00 right now, and NO reserve ! Keith

END673 Starter Problem
nasty51ford replied to nasty51ford's topic in Electrical, Electronics and Lighting
While I was looking my truck over yesterday, I was trying to determine whether or not it had been converted to negative ground, since it has had an alternator put on it The positive battery cables go to the solenoid on the starter, and the negative cable is going to a lug on the front of the starter? Still confused, is the front of the starter used as a ground? I would assume that the one going to the solenoid would be the hot cable? Also noticed the alternator belts are ridiculously loose, this may be my starting issue, low voltage. -
"Actually officer, I am also contracted to the state as a mosquito fogger, but thank you for asking. OOPS! how did that doughnut get under my driver license?"
-
Yep, it has the Mack script on it, but that is the ONLY number I can find, guess I'll search some more! Lol

I crawled back under there this afternoon, the only number I could find on the driver side of the transmission was a little flat boss on the bottom side of the main trans, just ahead of where it bolts together with the back box, it reads 47 over 62, does this mean anything? Thanks Keith

Thanks, I'll look again, they are very clean, so I shouldn't have missed them, if they are there, but the shift pattern plaque in the truck clearly shows fifth gear being back, towards the rear of the truck, and not forward, so, someone may have swapped trannies out somewhere along the way. Thanks Keith -
Hi, I read somewhere in one of these posts that I could find the trans numbers on the driver sider of my trans in my 1958 B67, however, the only numbers I have found are on the passenger side, and they don't appear to be the numbers I need. The guy I got it from, told me that top gear had been turned around, (like you can do to a Fuller trans) so that 5th gear is now forward, (up against the dash) is that even possible with a Mack trans? It has a duplex in it. These are the only numbers I can find on the trans, the front box has a Patent number 267440, and a part number under that that reads 284KB5623, the rear box has a casting number 281KBK544, and a part number 281KB. I have looked all over the passenger sides of both front and rear boxes, but can't kind anything, except for the Mack logo on the front box.

I came across a running 1964 tandem B61 wrecker on Ebay, it is listed as 1964 Mack, it has over 6 days left on the auction, and a starting bid of 3200.00 For some reason I can't copy and paste the link in here, so you'll have to go to Ebay to look it up!

Thinking of changing the differential, just needs a little taller gear, I won't be hauling any thing heavier than a car, or pickup truck, once in a great while maybe two, would like to see a little fire out of the stack at night, I remember seeing that when I was a kid riding with my dad. Before I was born he had a "51" A-Car DC100, that he went through from the ground up, and built the engine also, it had a 200 Cumins, he painted it Apache red and Sheridan blue, with real gold leaf lettering and scroll work, had "Bimbo" painted across the front bumper, because my older sister, who was only two at the time, use to go around singing that song "Bimbo Bimbo, where ya gonna goeeeeo......Bimbo Bimbo going down the roadeooooo" Lol. He had the pump set, and injectors set to where he had a little convex mirror on the passenger side aimed at the stack, she would throw a one foot flame, and he could use that mirror as a tach, he would know to downshift when that flame got down to 2" ! Lol. He swore till the day he died that that old "200" Cummins would out pull the trucks he was driving at that time, he was driving till 2000, lost him in 2003. Well.....I'm rambling....Lol

What kind of truck do you have it on? Is it a big sleeper? I would be using it as my only source of A/C, but in a little B67, and a 36" sleeper, it should be fine I would think, I can close the sleeper off while I'm driving during the day Thanks Keith

Awwwwww Congrats !!

We called em' "West Coaster"s in Mass back then too Vision! Lol

Love those old A' Cars!
-
Yeah, may want to make sure you have a "fat" altenator! Lol
-
Well no, actually there are units now that run on 12 and 24 volt systems, that's what this whole post was started about.
-
Thanks, yeah, I'm use to running hot engines, that's all I ever had, lol! But I never played with an old Mack. Is there anything to do to the injectors to get a little more out of it?
-
Well, you could put it on the roof of the sleeper, just make sure it's big enough to cool the whole truck! Shouldn't take much.

Looking for a little info on turning the pump up a little on my "58" Mack, it has the END673 in it, I just want to turn it up a little to get a little more power, but not enough that it will melt a piston, or wash down the cylinders, does anyone know how to go about doing this? I have been a mechanic all my life, but have never worked on one of these, I've only had it for about two weeks, and can it be turned up higher than 2100 RPM ,or is that the highest it will safely turn? It will be used for my own personal use, and will occasionally haul a car, either on the bed, it has an 18-20' tilt bed, or on a 20' car trailer that I have. Thanks Keith

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, wish I had the money for it right now.
