  1. GTW sounds similar to our GVW/GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). Here in the US, the current GVW of a typical highway tractor trailer combination is 80,000 lbs. Are your trucks set up as tractors? Tippers?
  2. I had a conversation with the owner this afternoon and the truck was built in Venezuela in 1983. Shortly thereafter, this truck and a couple of other trucks were purchased by a broker in OH because their sales fell through in Venezuela. The truck is a spare in his fleet now but a little South American Mack resides in Massachusetts.
  3. Using different size drive sprockets, ratios could be changed relatively easily to adjust the effective mph of a vehicle. In that time period, typical road speeds were 35-40 mph. During WWII, there was a mandated 35 mph national speed limit. I would speculate the FH did most of its heavy hauling work at 25-30 mph and 35+ mph running empty.
  4. These fellows were inspecting closely the chain drive on this heavy duty FH. No. 60 of 265 FH units built between 1937-1941.
  5. Like Paul said, bigger springs and blocks raises the whole truck. Bottom edge of the wrecker cab lines up with top of tire. Bottom edge of wrecker cab is parallel with the top of the fuel tank. RD dump truck on 24" rubber showing the same "look". Plenty of clearance between the tire and fender
  6. They also took the picture while kneeling down on the sidewalk across the street.

  15. Some good and bad doing the pos. to neg. swap. Here is a link to alternators that look like generators that maybe helpful to keep the original appearance. http://www.jegs.com/p/Powermaster/Powermaster-PowerGEN-Alternators/757123/10002/-1

  18. As Terry indicated, the gold dog came with the Maxidyne program. Here is some further discussion that started with more modern uses of the gold dog. https://www.bigmacktrucks.com/topic/38273-gold-dog/

  20. In this day and age, there will probably be a microchip embedded in the part so you can use an app on your smartphone to tell you where to start digging in the mud. Sorta sad....
