  1. There were different HP ratings due to injector pump changes etc. 285 - early 350. I believe that the actual tip turbine and CMCAC stayed the same until the water cooling was added.
  2. Sure, with LOTS of time and money it could be done. Is the diesel no good? I would leave the diesel in the truck if possible. Probably would have to change the rear axle gears as well to work with the gasser.
  3. Relatively speaking, my 6-71 is pretty clean also. I try to not let it idle much at all. Read some sort of Detroit service literature years ago that said to limit the idle time if possible. After being in a small Brockway cab for 2-3 hours with a Detroit singing, you are more than happy to shut it off!
  4. I don't know of any differences but there probably were some changes over the years. Keep in mind that the "spooling up" of the tip turbine is a function of bleeding some pressure from the engine turbo to spin the turbine fan. The tip turbine then would help push air through the air to air exchange to cool it before the intake manifold. There may have been a restriction keeping the tip turbine from getting all the air it needed. Running through the air cleaner kept the air to air exchange cleaner than than the hood scoop setup when working in a dusty environment. The later tip turbine system also included water cooling in addition to the air.
  5. Their play time is not restricted by a budget!

  23. Growing frame shims in double or triple frames can be problematic plus the rust mites in the tin. Sort of surprised to see that much rust when there is a oil undercoating device beneath the hood.
