  1. That make a long day. Nice job getting it back in one piece. Those things never happen when it's 70 degrees and a breeze is blowing...gotta happen when it sucks outside. Stuff happens...
  2. When the sight of a truck makes your chin drop and say Ahwwww, that's a good truck Congrats and post some photos Greg
  3. Cool plow truck. Old Dodge right? What year? Greg
  4. Cool brochure. Thanks for posting it. That injector pump was the weak ling in the system. I can see they had a good plan with all the stuff being gear driven and easy to get at...that pump just didn't last.
  5. It sounds like a book should be written. I'm fascinated. Being an engineer and a truck guy this is cool to read. Thanks for the info and consider writing down your experiences. It might be worth the effort and these days digital makes publishing easier...food for thought. I know many of us would read it all. Greg
  6. That's nice. A day or two with some compound and some wax and the paint on the sheetmetal will be good as new too. The inside has already been sprayed and looks good. My dash is full of holes ane relocated stuff. I need to find a selector switch for the front brakes like that one has. Mine is missing. I assume you can't hook it up anymore but I need it to plug the hole. cool truck. Greg
  7. Still struggling to post here for some reason. Here goes for the fifth time. Got my mack info Friday on the truck. It was one of four ordered for United excavating in Linden nj. They cancelled and Pacifica trucking wound up with mine. Serial numbers were B815sx 1227 through 1230. Mine is 1229. All were orange dumps. I found mine in Perthamboy three years ago. Does anybody know anything about the companies then or now? Does anybody know where the other three trucks might be? A reunion would be cool. Thanks. Greg
  8. Looking good there. Keep up the effort. You're going to be styling this summer for sure.
  9. Is it just me or do we think it might need just a little tinkering after 23 years in the same spot? Does it come with goggles? Nice truck just the same. I hope it gets a good home and some TLC. I'd love to own it. Funny ad for it...
  10. Cool truck. I have to admit to lusting after the V8 but then again that is a fairly rare vehicle if the description is accurate. I'm in the same boat as many of us where my wallet gives out long before my dreams come true. If only you could have one of each flavor...Oh well. I guess I will get mine on the road first and then worry about the rest of them...
  11. Some sort of heat will do the trick. A small wood stove can do the trick but the chimeny you need to be legal can be a fortune. I'd tinker up the existing furnace and put it on for such occasions and leave it off the rest of the time. A few 500 watt halogen work lights could be enough to drive off the moisture. Just keep them away from anything that can burn. It is always better to store garage stuff at 40 degrees or so but it can get expensive to keep a space big enough for a truck to sit in warm...it's an expensive hobby in some ways.
  12. Wear your Sunday best, speak respectfully and clearly, and point out anything that makes you the victim, and address the judge as "Your Honor"...the rest is in God's hands. I think we can muster a collection if bail money is needed... Good luck!
  13. I visit here several times a day if I can get to a computer. It has been fun, entertaining and informative. I've always felt welcome although I was a bit nervous at first to post stuff...I'm over that now. I am proud to be associated with the group. I think it is great that someone like Umodelnut (the vinster) can talk shop and learn from a bunch of guys who have been driving and wrenching all this time. It's great to have the young guys around and know that our pasion and our sickness for these old rigs will continue. Great stuff and I wouldn't change a thing, nor would I go elsewhere. Much appreciated the help and support from all! Thank you to Barry and Co for making this possible. Orders coming soon too. Greg
  14. I saw that episode too. Great that you hunted it down and grabbed it. keep us posted and take care of that leg.
  15. Wow, nice work. You take this extremely seriously. I'd love to go that far but funds and free time and the better half's patience wear thin. I have to post some progress pics myself but I don't plan to take it anywhere near that far. One question I have is what are the two large holes through the passenger side of the dash for and what is supposed to plug them up. I had two plastic coffee can lids silicone into them and I'm pretty sure that they are not Mack coffee can lids. Nice job and that truck deserves the love. If there is a proper plug for the holes does anyone have a picture? Thanks and keep up the posting of pics and progress! Love every word and every photo. Greg
  16. That is concerning to me. Welding a steel rod to a cast drum is at a minimum a stress concentrator and could cause cracks and failure. I can't imagine that is an approved means to either repair or balance a drum. I'd probably make plans to replace the drums. Better safe than sorry. Greg
  17. I'm told I have an E6-250 turbo with the original quadbox behind it. I think he drove it like that for 25+ years hauling dirt and doing paving (judging by how much is stuck to it). So I assume that's ok...Right? That's in the B-815 with 7.49:1 rears.
  18. Maybe that skidder fire was an "accident" if you know what I mean...
  19. I'd go with the blue and white if it appeals to you. I like to see diversity and the blue and white is how she ran and different than the typical schemes. I plan to paint mine orange despite the red now. It was orange from the factory as best I can tell. There are tons of red ones already so I'm trying to be as unique as I can and I like the orange. That's my $0.02. Google has tons of pictures so search and hit the images button...It's good for ideas and can help you get an idea of what you like. Great looking Mack. Enjoy it. Greg
  20. That B-81 looks solid as hell. Sheet metal in that condition is hard to find.
  21. Takes a bunch of them to make a meal but they taste like chicken...Not bad at all....Does that make me a red neck?
  22. It's like having sex with a fat woman... Sorry
  23. I would soda blast if you don't intend to repaint. The soda will remove the paint and oxidized material and leave the good aluminum unscathed. It is striking how well it goes after the paint and not the aluminum. You can then polish to your hearts content. Note that when repainting, Soda is not recommended and voids paint warrantees as the basic (opposite of acidic) action of the soda conteracts the grip that self etching primer would provide. The paint tends to jump off the substrate unless you completely rinse the soda off or hit it with a mild acidic solution. Greg
  24. I loved smoking but quit cold turkey when Peter Jennings died. It just hit me that it was stupid to take chances with life. My mother died of cancer in April (not from anything she did) and I can tell you it is not the way to go. I gave it up and I'm glad the Mrs. did too. We are better off and not so poor either. Ma used to say everything in moderation. I think she was on to something although it didn't keep her going as long as it should. Quit the habit, drink lots of water and take up something productive. You will live longer and life will be better so long as you can walk up a set of stairs and still breath. Good luck and make sure if you do quit that the next stress crisis in life doesn't take you back either. You will be glad you did. Greg
  25. I remember seeing that at Barrington. I wish I had known the history then. I would have paid more attention to it. That is a nice project. Hope to see it in 2014.
