I can't imagine what difference it make having the edge one way or another. Any way you slice it, if you get wound up with that edge it's gonna peal you open. You can hit it and it can hit you in either orientation. I'd prefer it forward where it can fetch up against the goose neck and do something to stop the load in an emergency. More chains and binders and some straps for insurance are a good thing...I'd say 5 is the minimum and they need to be in tension in line with the truck to help start and stop the load with the trailer. I see guys with all sorts of criss cross stuff and I don't think any of it does anything except protect from cross winds... It's dangerous stuff. Good to know about the regulations and the turbo concerns. I'd never heard either...thanks for the tips and God Bless!

Small, Medium, Large....and.....Extra Small?
Gmerrill0516 replied to 1958 F.W.D.'s topic in Odds and Ends
Hey that is great! You took time off, went to Disney, got a good solid piece of ...well you know and now you've got another little helper on the way. It's a blessing. As for the "procedure", I recommend two good bags of frozen pees or frozen corn. The canned stuff is a bad idea. Don't let them thaw completely as the next time it comes out of the freezer it will be one big block of ice and that's no good. Even weight distribution will be a good thing. Go easy and follow doctors orders. And yah there is no really comfortable way to determine if the weapon is unloaded or not...You can try your luck of wait three months and take the test. Congrats! -
Telling the truth and saying sorry admits guilt which is refreshing. At least the guilty were held responsible. Nice people do stupid shit too...It's good nobody got busted up or worse.

She should learn that sometimes it's not best to hurry into a situation. A little patience when approaching a narrowing road and a little respect for something that out weighs you by a factor greater than ten is probably a good place to to go easy. She's gonna need some new undies, Some good seat cleaner, a front end alignment and a bunch of other stuff to make that vehicle go good again. I'm guessing she will think twice about beating a truck out the next time...then again I may be being too kind in assuming she doesn't just think its your fault mhe9. That is the whole theory of natural selection now isn't it? Maybe she races trains to cross roads on the weekends for fun. Glad the Mack was still on her feet and only a little banged up...that could have gotten ugly fast.

Ok, that makes some sense. I was thinking about the need to jack the axels to get that number as a starting point. My plan is to find a vintage lowbed at some point and use that to lug some of Dad's tractors around with when we want to hit a local show or pull event. He's a John Deere two cylinder guy. I don't see any real need or posibility of hauling van type trailers for anything. So with that plan in mind I can set the fenders to clear the tires and when I have the fifth wheel I can space that up if I have needed to make some room to ensure everything clears the fenders. I didn't know if there was more to the story or not. Measure twice and cut once right? Appreciate the guidance very much. Greg

Ok, I've got the B-815SX and I want to make it a tractor as I never did want a dump truck. I see many different set ups for height of the fifth wheel. I see pictures of them spaced up 4-6 inches. I am also wondering how to set the fender heights. I want to buy or make a set that looks like the front fenders. They would cover both sets of rears and have angled then vertical ends...no rounded ones. So how high do you set the fenders up from the wheels and how high do you set the fifth wheel so it all works. I may eventually haul some stuff but I have no way to see what the road bumps and weight to squat the suspension will do. The rears are something like 65,000# units so I don't expect a bunch of squat but have to allow for something right? I may bring a tape measure to the next truck show but figured this is a good question for the masses on BMT. If there are any good rules of thumb, I'd appreciate them. Thanks for the help. Greg

Ford Re-Enters Russian Truck Market with Cargo 1846T 4x2 Tractor

I tried reading it in a mirror but gave that up like it was some sort of code. I saw the note about the translate button and that helped but the translator is marginal at best...Oh well. They look kind of cool but at the end of the day a Ford is well....a Ford. I'm all set. I'll stick with Cummins and Mack stuff... -
That's a good one Other Dog. Too funny!

Love the Detroits but I'd rather see an 864 and a quad box in that old girl. It would probably shift better. I thought I sucked at finding gears! Actually I do in the modern stuff but I feel less alone now. The quad is much easier. I assume the gauges and the glove box are the same shape and size just for that reason. It makes one set of tooling for both right and left hand drive trucks. That's called engineering. -
The Euclid 8x4 Prime Movers of F.W. Hake (Hake Rigging)

The whole country is going to hell and it is a shame we let Mack go to ...that other company...Anyway on a brighter note those are amazing machines. We aught to rescue them some how and get them under a roof and able to make some black smoke again. We should start a fund! Easier said than done but cutting those up would be a shame. I'd toss in a few bucks to make them safe and ours. Its a thought.... -
There is no reason for that clock to work. It's fine just like it is. That shot with the fishnets....is wrong and should be illegal...assuming it isn't already.

Tough Nuts...

Some good weasel pee and the right size wrench is a good start. The flame wrench is a good helper when all else fails too. Ditch the pipe and get a good 18" ratchet. Also get some 3/4 or 1" drive stuff. You can break lots of stuff with your bare hands...don't get the cheap stuff either. It's a waste of time and money. Love that picture of the kid hanging on the wrench above! Laughed my ass off. Greg -
Mine was red and I think I'm going to do all red with a black frame and maybe silver wheels. Orange is my next thought but I get lots of cringes when I say that. Look at pictures on line (google works) and find something you like. You own it...paint it the way that makes you smile. I know it's a tough question.... Good luck

I drive by that twice a day. He's got a nice old LJX2D if my eyes don't deceive me near the road and a B-61 tandem dump that looks sharp. A single rear white dump that is nice too. The stuff just sits year after year. If he wants 12,500 for a truck but doesn;t sell it except for scrap that doesn't make sense. A lower price to a collector seams to be a better deal for him than the scrap price would bring. I could go up and help rescue stuff if it helps. Did you you get the name of the scrap guy taking it by chance? Let me know. I hate to see it go to the bone yard. Greg

What do use use for a blasting process and media? I've read a bunch of information about the dustless blasting equipment out of Texas. I think it's a sweet system but the cost of the unit is above my pay grade I'm affraid. I'd be interested to know your thoughts and processes. Please post the after shots when you get there. Thanks Greg -
The goal is control. They will not do anything to help the situation because they want Obamacare in place at all costs. Remember a certain agency doing its best to control the election? Well wait till they control weather you live or die...It is slow but deliberate creaping socialism. Its all about power and control. The constitution is out, division of powers is out and the media is in the bag telling us how bad and evil the republicans are for causing this. You won't hear a thing about the congresional rule changes that rammed this thing down our throat. You won't hear how many Americans are already paying out their a$$ to try to stay covered so that we can "level" the playing field for all americans..and illegals (yes I'm a mean spirited racist...right?) Once we are all dependent upon the government for our existance they control us absolutely. It's a simple plan and we are well on our way. Bend over and brace yourselves, "change" is on the way. To prepare yourselves, look up mortality rates for England vs. the USA. It is encouraging news...and it will be here soon. Enjoy.

If the lies get repeated enough they start to become truth or so they hope. The FACTS are that this is going to cost a ton of money. The Feds can't keep the post office in the black, and can't run ANYTHING efficiently as they have no incentive to do so. When you don't have natural competition, there is no reason to provide good service and the life gets sucked out of whatever endevour they are undertaking. This is a redistribution of wealth and one more step in the direction of a socialist society. We are becoming the USSR as they are head toward a more capitalist society. Coruption becomes rampant, the people are no longer represented and as one government worker put it today, the level of frustration at not being heard is unbearable!!! Go figure. The deaper problem is that voting or not, we are not represented. The percentage of voters against Obamacare is overwealming but it moves forward anyway. Romeny was a poor excuse for a "conservative" candidate and frankly he got the ball rolling with Romneycare here in the peoples republic of Taxachusetts. I'm so dam sick of people telling me how I should live, what insurance I can buy and so on it's not funny. WE are the people and the govenrment has gotten out of control We refuse to secure our borders from every third world hell hole as if it is our responsibility to take care of the world. This is to get voters or chap labor depending upon what side of the aisle you are on. The problem is that us working stiffs can't carry the load for all teh dead weight and labor rates are driven down as a result of the glut of people willing to work for $8.00 an hour. Again, free enterprise has a solution for that if you close the border. The country will be defeated from within by greed and coruption and nobody cares or is willing to do a dam thing about it. "We" are so willing to give away all that our forefathers fought and died for as if we are guilty for having built a successful and great contry. With the lack of constitutional law abidance, we are screwed. WE either follow it as it was intended or we are done. It may already be too late as we clearly no longer have the will to enforce existing law (review imigration law vs what we "allow" for example) Congress spent a bunch of time trying to pass laws that say the same dam thing that is already law that the government refuses to and infact prevents from being inforced. We need a solution and we need to VOTE for officials that follow constutional LAW and I don't mean like Obama who says one thing and does another every day. IT's the old piss down my back and tell me its raining thing...Otherwise kiss America good bye. IT will cease to exist. Remember Rome which was killed by appathy and corruption from within with the help of open borders etc. Those who fail to learn from history are destined to repeat it. Now you got me going...

Me too the LS85 would love a Mack extinguisher.. I've been looking for one for some time. Thanks Greg

I'd get her running and stopping and add some fresh tires. Then I would keep it just like it is! You can't buy a finish like that and I think it is sweet! Wicked Pissa! Love it!
