B81 manual steering?
Gmerrill0516 replied to Bigdogtrucker's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I'm guessing that would be a handful and then some. Mine has power steering and its a bunch of work. They actually did that? -
I'm no expert but I do know that the ones worth the $ are the D's with original spoke type flywheels. This is a newer model. I think the rear rubber is a bit larger than it should be and is unlikely to be original style. My Father has a 29GP which is the little brother to the D. It was cut down from steel to rubber too. This is electric start which would make it a late unstyled unit too. Get the serial number off of it. The brass plate will tell you the vintage etc. I'd guess it is 3-5K tops but I could be full of crap too. Greg

ENF707A cam and main bearings
Gmerrill0516 replied to Gmerrill0516's topic in Engine and Transmission
Thank you for the information. I'll see if they cross to anything I can find on the market. Does anybody else have any ideas on the cross over of teh diesels vs gas motors for the 707's? Thanks Greg -
Can anybody tell me if the cam and main bearings in a 707A gas engine are the same as the END707? I can find listings for the diesels but no luck with the gassers. If not, does anybody have a lead on where to get a set of each? The crank is not ground so a stock set is in order if possible. Any help or ideas are welcome. Thanks Greg

How short do you have to be in order to be able to drive that? My B-81 is cramped and I'm just 6' tall. Is the cab as crowded as it looks from the outside? It is a cool looking truck. I hope somebody finds a good home for it and gets her running once again... Good luck with it all. Greg

WANT TO BUY 1959 Gas Thermodyne Oil Pump for B85
Gmerrill0516 replied to loyaldavis's topic in Parts Wanted
The filter should be a bypass type and should not in my opinion be the issue. I'd guess you have a bearing problem or some other issue. Is there a spring/presure relief in the pump? Maybe the spring failed and is not allowing the pump to build pressure. I have a 707C that I will either part or sell shortly and I know the pump works...I have to get my stuff running first which will be in a month or two (good Lord willing). I'll post what I have on the parts section or I can let you know if you like. Good luck. -
War, particularly that one is (was) ugly. Perhaps you would prefer to have written your post in German Mike. We were not going to talk our way through that and if you don't think that they wouldn't have done that to New York or Nashville, had they had the chance, you would be mistaken. God Bless Ron Reagan, he wasn't a pansy ass politician like most of the turds we have floating around today. You knew where he stood and for damn sure why. He loved this country and frankly we need another guy like him to keep the good old USA from becoming another Greece/Cuba. Now you got me started.

LF with EN 471 gas motor question
Gmerrill0516 replied to mack l model's topic in Engine and Transmission
Ah if all else fails follow the fuel line from the carb back to it's origin...just a thought. I swear I'm not laughing even a little bit. Sorry... -
Watch the documentarys and see what those guys did. I don't think you can even imagine what that must have been like unless you lived it. We owe all of them a dwbt we can never repay. All REAL men. God Bless.

I went over this morning. The good news is that it was not dusty. It was a tad damp but the truck turn out was pretty good. It was nice to see another B-815 there. I learned that some of the subtle things I wondered about are indeed on this truck too so I assume they are correct. What was that massive blue Kenworth? Does anybody know anything about that beast? Glad I went to see the local stuff. Maybe next time I can bring my tuck along too.

The price of freedom is great.

Keep us posted on the status. Maybe if we all put our heads together we can locate a good truck for you at a reasonable rate. As things go with my project, by the time I get done making one run I'll have enough parts for a couple more...I'm going to have a bunch of stuff to send down the road. Greg

I guess the first issue is that the fed fails to enforce its own laws equally accross the board. Turning a blind eye to the obvious failure to conform to the law is simply not fair to the competition. As to the whole tree hugging legislation, I too am perplexed as to how burning 2X the fuel to do the same job really "improves" much. I think it is too soon for such restrictions and they should have taken a more practical approach to the whole thing. Its one more way we are legislating ourselves into a third world country. When we fail to compete and truckers can't afford to drive, people are going to get real hungry. I know I said practical in reference to the govenment...must be the beer kicking in.
-
When more folks are living off the govenment than are paying for it we are done. We will become the USSR and they will become the society with free trade and free markets. We are so close to this now that I fear it is already too late. I would ask everone to consider what health care will be like once it is run by the same folks running the post office. Good luck. The parties are in it for the power and the voters are in it for the hand outs. And to bring this around full circle, consider how soon it will be illegal to own and opperate an old dirty truck like the ones we all have. They can be legislated out of existance for the "good" of us all...it's where we are headed. Hope I spelled everything correctly...

Nice picture, thanks for posting it. There are some videos on youtube showing a Mack train type unit being winched aboard a lowbed then being hauled with a B-81 and another convoy of trucks hauling cars and engines up to Maine if I am not mistaken. Both are vintage video with the former being withour sound. I hope to get a 5th wheel for my 815 at some point be able to lug some heavy stuff around for fun.

Took her for a spin around the block (Shhhh!) I think it shifts easier than an 8LL. Stearing is another matter. I can see why folks put the knob on the wheel as it is a task to turn from lock to lock. It's a good thing it has power steering! -

I sent you a message with what I can do to help. I may be able to do better than I have indicated. Let me know if you are interested as I need to do some leg work to be sure I have parts covered on my end. I hope it works out for you one way of another. Greg -
WANT TO BUY 707 piston or engine for parts
Gmerrill0516 replied to Gmerrill0516's topic in Parts Wanted
I've learned taht the 707 A. B, and C all used the same pistons. The F designated units for fire service had slightly longer skirts but are otherwise the same. I have a 707C now but am still hunting for pistons as I hate to canibalize a good motor....
