  1. Those injectors are readily available from fuel injection shops. Acquire rebuilt ones from them paying the core charge which is refunded when your old ones are returned. They usually run about $60.00 each to rebuild. Better yet, pull the injection pump, and all six injectors and send them into the fuel shop to be matched and calibrated together as an operating unit. You will be much happier that way. Rob
  2. Your transmission will be the weak point unless really easy. Rob

That one had an experienced driver in the seat. No wrenching of the truck from the torque upon acceleration, nor loud bark, but rather a smooth exhaust tone, and very easy on the upshift. This is probably why the truck is still working. The packer on the wheel lift was loaded also. Sounded like a Cummins engine to me from the exhaust note. Rob
  4. Yesterday when I was departing the area the traffic jambs in morning traffic were bothersome. I was actually west of the city on Rt. 59 headed south through Naperville when I come upon a lengthy "stoppage" of all traffic moving south. It turns out a new Freightliner got all into the side of a Chevy Equinox flipping it on it's side in the intersection. Not hard to tell from this one that somebody was forcing their ways through the light as it was turning colors. Both lanes of traffic were halted while a wrecker righted the Chevy. After clearing this mess, low and behold there was another collision at the next intersection further south. This one too was a real mess with plastic and glass all over the place. This intersection moves a lot of traffic, (Rt. 59 & 104th street for those knowing the area). This one too took about 20 minutes to get clear to let traffic pass. Glad I wasn't on much of a schedule to get to work timely back at my radar site 175 miles distant........ Rob
  5. Could have been recabbed with U model sheetmetal before being totally rebuilt with a gallon of Dupont enamel.......Rob
  6. A slight hole in the fuel suction line from the tank, and clogged fuel filters will stop a Detroit easily. Those pumps do not make much pressure and use a restrictor fitting in the fuel rail, (cast into cylinder head) to keep the unit injectors with a positive fuel pressure so they fill. The pumps pull right off after removing the three retaining bolts. They are driven by one of the blower shafts by a fork type arrangement are easily to reinstall. Rob

Hitler was a Dictator, not a dicktater! Another BMT history lesson in the books!! Rob
  8. Thanks for the donation of the sleeper and all the help loading. Rob
  9. A two stroke diesel engine? Never heard of such a thing....... I have a couple; a 6-71, and a 12V-71T getting ready to set into a truck. Rob
  10. Some kind of syndrome for sure. Numerous gears get you nowhere fast when the engine is not running as is typical in one of those things. Rob

Now you've seen a real one. Rob
  12. Used to see a few around here in farm service and they have all but dried up also. Rob
  13. Ernie, I seen those tanks just last night and they are what you need, in good shape. I purchased the radiator from that truck. If the tanks had been 80 gallon, I'd have got them myself! Rob
  14. Yessir. Air from the diesels air compressor, or vacuum from the gasoline engine's manifold vacuum. Rob
  15. And leave the Batman cape off when cheering around a ceiling fan. Rob
  16. It was a Mack built duplex transmission used behind diesel engines that used a single gearshift handle and an air cylinder to shift the compound gearing. Rob
  17. Now that Peterbilt picture made me feel chunks. Rob
  18. My take also but thought I was elongating them with my bad eyesight. Rob
  19. That Pete picture gives me gas. Rob
  20. Today is Midnight Mechanic's birthday. I've been busy today and almost missed it. Hope it was a good one for you. Rob

  24. Cut it in half and properly align it before welding back together. The rails absolutely have to be the same length. If there is a factory punched hole in one side, the other side should have a corresponding hole. Everything is built from parallel frame rails equal in spacing, length, and squareness. Rob
