This inundating 1/2" of snow received this morning is already gone and life is back to normal.

Almost got a photo of a very photogenic 4900 Western Star for you yesterday. It is white and a local grain hauler usually pulling a belt trailer. There is a very nice black one too which belongs to a friend locally which is very meticulously maintained. Got him a home built and dyno proven 730hp Detroit under the hood of that one.

We go 1/2 inch this morning in central Illinois and it's just below freezing. Going to warm to about mid 40's however so won't hang around long.

Most of the 56 Chevy cars looked almost new. Most were red with a white top and red interior but many were yellow with a white top. I only rode i a couple of red ones myself. The dashboard layout was different from those marketed in the USA when new. I also don't know what engines were installed but probably wasn't a 235ci GM engine. There was always a line of them off to the sides of the American Consulate building, and down by the dock area which wasn't far from the Consulate building. That area had a lot of tourists too as the "Attaturk" memorial was right down there. In Izmir, I didn't get off the base but taxi cabs were the way to get around and most of them were also 56 Chevrolet cars. I took extensive photos with my 35mm camera and still have them someplace. I'll see if I can dig them out sometime. There are too some Mack truck photos but they looked similar to an R model but I cannot attest they actually were.

If you are having to change the filter/drier/cartridge often your compressor is suspect as this is not normal. I had three AD-9 series on trucks and serviced them every fall going into the winter months using only genuine "Bendix" remanufactured elements/kits. Never had any problems.

I was surprised at the number of 56 Chevrolet cars, (taxi cabs) and Mack R models in Istanbul, and Izmir, Turkey back when I was there in 85, 86, and 87.

I find it amazing I still have enough brain cells functioning to remember so many of these of the trucks, and some of the names. By admission I remember the Mack brand more than anything, but I left living in the area after grandpa retired from Monsanto, and many relatives retired from Busch, with most leaving the metropolitan area. The thread has been really rewarding to me as much of what's posted I can still directly relate to. Thx.

I think so too. Then the coat tail riders will come out in full force along with the late night lawyers on the airwaves on how you deserve or are entitled to "significant" compensation because you used, or didn't use this or that particular product during the pandemic causing you grief and suffering. Never have really had any medical problems so this ordeal really has not affected me at all; personally. Other's I know have been significantly impacted and I'm keeping one family afloat as this is typed. Hate to see people fall when it really is no fault of theirs.

Exactly. It's a numbers game and most insured folks just pay it without much forethought. I survey every three calendar years for rates but haven't needed to switch in many years on my shop policy. Personal autos, every three years someone else has them almost guaranteed.

When this joke does end, the finger pointing will begin. Hopefully something positive will come out of it for the American people as a whole.

Farmer's did the same to my mother in law when she hit a certain age. I got wind and cancelled everything and brought her vehicles under my fleet policy and homeowners under mine also as we have POA over her.

I surveyed around for coverage for my white Mack tractor and naturally went through my normal provider first. He found "Progressive" more economical by a large margin than any of the underwriters he represents. I still have antique coverage on the truck but that coverage won't work with it actually working. I've not switched anything over as no need yet.

I had Gulfway on one of my trucks for years and moved to Haggerty as were more liberal in the use of the truck. Pricing was comparable at the time.

This is my 1977 R795S. It is not an RD: Same truck setting next to my 1974 RL797LST. Notice the height differences: The line set ticket states "Oil Field Spec".

Some, but not all were RD series. If you look at the gap between the fuel tanks and cab rocker panel as well as seeing the bottom radiator tank bolts; dead givaway to raised cab. Another clue is the front cab mount insulator being completely visible.

Oil field spec trucks have the raised cab as these do. Probably put together in southern Il as several with that look were including mine.

Could be Terry but they look very close in spec to my R795 also and are in the same timeframe. Mine was not a Haliburton truck.

The purge valve is a replaceable service item. Sometimes you can clean them but if you're not really handy it's better to either replace the bottom plate complete, or just the purge valve itself. Different dryers take different scenarios, but none are hard to service.

The GM 292 built correctly was a very smooth running horse too.

It's been a long time. I think those R models are either 77, or 78 year models. Don't remember if I ever seen anything but dump trucks other than the R models either. Used to be a lot of traffic on I-270 and constant construction through the major interchanges all around St. Louis. I-44, I-64, Rt. 40, and I-55 clearing downtown were always a mess with construction.

I was thinking Hazelwood but was unfamiliar for certain. Those R models were very close to new last I seen any of them. I do remember them having a lot of Louisville Fords, and mack R models. Don't think I remember any other marques.

I remember that company with the red R models but the name escapes me. Always had black air cleaners with the body color bands. All the trucks had the raised cabs too.
