  1. I ain't never had anything with air ride before. The B model I'm working with will be the first. Quite possibly my 74 RL797 will get the Neway cutoff recently purchased and I've already acquired the parts to make the cab air ride. Looking forward to it as this one has a good possibility of being my routine driver. Rob
  2. Can't be more fair or honest in your ratings or descriptions. Rob
  3. On the passenger side of the engine will be an aluminum plate with number stampings. If the engine is original to the chassis the number should read something like ETAZ-300 or similar. If there is no aluminum plate, look on the front engine housing where the injection pump bolts to the engine. It will be stamped something like ENDT676, or similar. It is probably a 300+ engine with only a five speed trans. What is the series of truck: R685ST, R686ST? That would nail it down further. Rob
  4. I prolly dug a thousand graves with a Case 580D series backhoe in my earlier years. I worked at a graveyard and three to four holes per day was the norm. The cemetery had a soil hopper/grinder with a conveyor on a dump truck and it didn't take very long to backfill a gravesite with granulated dirt. Rob
  5. Mine got me a long time ago and has been happy since. Rob
  6. Naw, never have done that. It was gonna be a bit of money to do the job as they were busted up under the cab too. To do the job right the truck needed to come near all the way apart so the dollars added up quickly. Myself, I thought I'd have used this truck as a donor and built another but he is sentimental about it. We'll see how it washes out in the future. Rob
  7. By the time all the figuring was done the plug was pulled before I placed the order. I'm not certain if the job will be done with new rails, or a cutoff installed. I've known the party a long time so if he decides to do it I'll know. He didn't say the project was dead, just that he didn't want to spend the money "right now". Rob
  8. The owner of the 359 decided to not go forward with the job. I don't know if someone else is doing it or not. Rob

    For randyp:

I figger you has prolly already ruint her as she ain't been home in a long time. Rob
  10. I'd use it for parts. I like R models too but collect the "700" series trucks. This one would come apart to help others with their projects along with myself. I'd really have no interest in working with this as a complete truck. Rob
  11. Little more welding. I'm told the balance is welded and finished since these were taken. Rob

    Merlot:

Bottle of Merlot: A man asked a waiter to take a bottle of Merlot to an unusually attractive woman sitting alone at a table in a cozy little restaurant. So the waiter took the Merlot to the woman and said, 'This is from the gentleman who is seated over there'.... and indicated the sender with a nod of his head. She stared at the wine coolly for a few seconds, not looking at the man, then decided to send a reply to him by a note. The waiter, who was lingering nearby for a response, took the note from her and conveyed it to the gentleman. The note read: 'For me to accept this bottle, you need to have a Mercedes in your garage, a million dollars in the bank and 7 inches in your pants'. After reading the note, the man decided to compose one of his own in return. He folded the note, handed it to the waiter and instructed him to deliver it to the lady. It read: Just to let you know things aren't always what they appear to be, I have a Ferrari Maranello, BMW Z8, Mercedes CL600, and a Porsche Turbo in my several garages; I have beautiful homes in Aspen and Miami , and a 10,000 acre ranch in Louisiana . There is over twenty million dollars in my bank account and portfolio. But, not even for a woman as beautiful as you, would I cut off three inches. Just send the wine back.

Gawd I hate that you won't be able to walk straight without cramping after seeing these photos, and the thought of what you might do to my gorilla after viewing them. Just don't make her too sore. Here is not one, not two, but six, yes six scrapers all lined up in a row. Please control your emotions. Rob
  16. Several times I start the truck in neutral and allow it to warm. I then shut the engine off, release the brakes and start the engine in low gear. With the clutch pedal depressed gently "bump" the accelerator several times all the while moving in low gear with the clutch pedal held down. The torque reversal of the engine will eventually break the bond between the friction discs and flywheel. Don't rap the accelerator hard at all just an easy on, then off power. Rob
  17. Yup, I'm attending an electrical safety training class in Elgin at the TRACON. Going back home tomorrow. I'll be back next month for another class in Aurora. Will try to stop and visit unless the uncertain future I'm certain to have if I purchase this truck precludes any further endeavors. Rob
  18. Please don't tell her. Rob
  19. Where are you at? IM in Warrenville right now and will leave tomorrow evening.Rob
  20. When I was in the Navy, the guy next to me said "Damn, this waster is cold" while he was pissing, And I responded, "Yeah, and it's deep too". He then became fondly aware of my appreciation of Richard Pryor, r.i.p. Rob
  21. "Hershey Squirts" huh? Sorta like eatin a whole large bag of nacho cheese "Doritos", and payin for it the next day or so? Ain't had em in years. Don't miss em a bit neither. Rob
  22. Tonight we got a little more done as far as fitment and install. I trimmed, fit, and clamped the panel into place where I wanted it and turned him loose with instruction on how to make the window frame look right. The "plug" welding is now almost complete except for smoothing for the seal and back glass. Tomorrow the perimeter will be welded up and blended into the parent top material. I have a class in Chicago on your nickle, (thanks to tax dollars) so I'll be sure to learn lots....... Here are a few progress photos from tonight. I like to leave about a 3/8ths overlap to the seams for strength. Rob
  23. Bout 10 years ago I painted a new custom stainless double wall body that was polished in the recesses burgundy to match the color of the cab. It took as long to mask this thing off as it does a normal automobile for a complete repaint. Sure was pretty when done and after the pinstriping was applied. The truck was the nicest "PayStar" I think I've ever seen. It had some type of hydraulic detachable conveyor on the rear. I don't know what the truck was destined to do but they didn't spare any expense setting it up. Rob
  24. This truck is a 1974 RL797LST with an ENDT866B engine, TRDL 107 trans with SQHD axles on Reyco 101 suspension. It is a California truck but was originally white and painted this color in 1979. I've talked to the original owner several times and although he defected to Peterbilt, is still a pretty nice guy. It runs very well and I plan to drive this one quite a bit and will prolly see Lititz with it next year. Rob
  25. And now she'll never want to come home.Kinda like; Sticks and stone will break my bones, but whips and chains excite me. Rob
