  1. Should look good where it's going! Thanks, Rob
  2. Best Military Quote: "When I joined the military it was illegal to be homosexual, then it became optional, and now it's legal. I'm getting out before Obama makes it mandatory." GySgt Harry Berres, USMC
  3. I couldn't find it anyplace but would like to see what they did to the cab to make if fit; and have to work with it. Rob
  4. I like the ones that squeak from the sweat when you rub em together. Rob

    job loss

It all makes a turd when you're finished with it. Better a doggie, or horse treat turd than starving to death. Rob
  6. Today I went and ordered a few Mack parts/stuff to get some of these R models out of the shop. Getting tired of not being able to walk a straight line in the shop from front to back. I can hardly wait for the bill: Today's order included: Four left, and four right windshields. Six battery box assemblies, including tops, and bottoms, complete. Two of these will go on my B61 project as it had no boxes at all. Four windshield perimeter seals. Eight perimeter door gaskets. I have the glass run channel and "cat whiskers" in bulk so I'll make those when I get a bit of free time. I also picked up my "U" bolt kits, and spring eye bushing kits for the B61 so with the exception of setting the frame length and finding correct caster shims to set the pinion angle, I'm pretty well set to go forward on this project. Hopefully get something done on the B model this week now that the radar is back in operation. Rob

  8. Guilty! Man I've heard that too many times in my life. Swear I never do nothin wrong, but everytime I get the blame; I've been framed, etc... (Cheech and Chong).
  9. No problems, no worries, think I'll just take a nap: At ease with my Mack hat grandpa got for me: I can sit up all by myself: Every day is an adventure being older and getting to watch this one grow. Rob
  10. Wonder why the wheelbase was left so long? Something that heavy spec would heave like that every tow. Rob
  11. Without gouging out the cab and forming a doghouse I'm not certain it will fit. I haven't been around the "L" style cab and it may be different but it's gonna be tight any way it's attempted. Rob
  12. The first words of caution I would give is to not put the cart before the horse. This truck has been setting for quite a spell and there are several things to be considered/evaluated prior to jumping in with something that is for the most part obsolete as far as parts. Breakdowns are very expensive and you don't just call your buddy with a pickup truck and a chain to pull you home. Heavy wrecker calls are not cheap because you can't readily get parts alongside the roadway. Other than that, the truck was built for work and it should perform that service admirably for year yet to come. Be easy on the throttle and run around a little while empty to both familiarize yourself with the trucks' "personality" and refamiliarize it to working once again. If you have gladhands installed already, that means you already have a tractor protection valve installed, and the associated valving to make it work. This, and having a fifth wheel ready to install is really all you need to make the truck a tractor unit. Bolt, or weld the fifth wheel into position about four inches forward of the trunion centerline, (if tandem) or the same distance from axle centerline, (if single drive) and you will be good for use. If you have a slider fifth wheel, you would need to research online for proper placement as I've never worked with mounting one of those in a new install. As long as you have adequate swing clearance to clear the neck of a trailer when you turn, all should be set. With the exception of the trolley valve, tractor protection valve, and hoses/plumbing there isn't much different between a truck built as a straight truck, (as yours) or a tractor. I have a couple B61S, and B62S series truck that have tractor protection valves on them also like yours. Rob
  13. Not a bad start to work with. I like the length of it myself but it would take quite a long bed for certain. A nice rollback would be great for hauling cars. Rob
  14. Mack transmissions use a combination of oil sling, and an internal pump to lubricate themselves. There is also a plug low that is magnetic along with a screen. Rob
  15. One of the good things about Texas is no road salt that eats up those Stemco aluminum hubcaps. Most times around here you can't get the screws out to replace the window and wind up replacing the entire cap assembly. Rob
  16. I meant when I told you to "whack the wood", was the sideboards on the Mack needed beat back into place with a hammer. Rob
  17. I feel left out. All of mine are real. Rob
  18. Another viable option is to find another truck because they are out there to rebuild/restore original. The 3000 series, and it's larger cousins were very popular and used the same driveline. You may wind up restoring/rebuilding the original drivetrain, then finding another chassis to use the parts in. Don't rule anything out. If time, space, and money is on your side, then use the ball that's in your court. This is a fun hobby, but is also something that gets very expensive, quickly. As you get further into some of this it will become readily apparent a "staggered" approach needs to be pursued. Just don't get into it like a high school boy chasing girls, looking for breeding stock. You can never get ahead that way. Rob
  19. I've not seen a manual override for any of the electronic engines. This problem sounds like the needle and seat electromagnet that actually operates the valve is shot and will need to be replaced. Citing you have fuel charge pressure to the inlet of this valve, and a slight "rap" causes it to actuate, narrows the trouble down quite a bit. The computer after sensing crankshaft rotation pulses, or enables this valve for operation. I'm thinking the problem is isolated from the description. Rob
  20. If'n I wind up with that truck, I'm gonna trailer it home. Rob
  21. if'n I has "Momma" fix you up one of her famous "chilli burgers", just about 20 minutes later you wouldn't think you was quite so tight. I know cause I learnt to drop and cinch my belt up half way down my ass to keep my cheeks together so I don't leak. Rob
  22. I seen that early this morning. Nice little truck. Rob
  23. A high gloss black with clear "spiked" with slight blue, green, and gold mica flakes really jumps out too. Rob
  24. I'd probably carry an extra rocker arm, pushrod, and a pair of rocker cover gaskets as I've seen that happen more than once myself. Not hard to fix but inconvenient at any time. Rob
  25. Right after California!! Rob
