  1. Naw, I don't trust them little 2X4's with wheels. I might fall and hurt myself, or break a nail or something serious like that. Never could stand the sight of blood. I did dig in the pocket of one of "Momma's" purses and found a couple of Lincolns. My bid is now $1001.02. I'll keep rooting as I may find more. Maybe if I go up to the public aid office and tell em I'm one poor sumbitch, they'd help me out? Rob
  2. Yur breaking my arm but I could skip lunch the next couple days and go $1001.00 for the cab but you'd need to wait awhile before I could afford gasoline to pick it up. Wait, daughter has an old nag and they eat cheap alongside the roadways. I'm about 182 miles from Bevo, how long do you think the jaunt would take me? Rob

It all tastes good after it's washed in vinegar, then "aired out". Hint: turn the lights out cause it can be kinda ugly. Rob

You're gettin slow old man. That thrill thing; is that the morning wave goodbye? I give "Momma" a thrill every couple of days, then duck really fast!! She loves me soooooo much. Rob

Don't think I has ever ate one. With the exception of "Momma's" hindquarters, I don't like spongey things. Rob
  6. Use the radiator and mounts, then the hood hinges from the donor and you'll have no problems. There were several versions of cab mounts and I don't know if they are different from R to RD but the cab structure is the same. Rob

Holy Shit, is this ever gonna end????? Wait, January 20, 2013 is not too far off. We just have to hold out till then. Don't know if I can live with "Momma" if "Twinky's" are done away with. She eats about a box and a half of those damned things a day. Rob

Some put those on cause they like the look, some due to carrying heated asphalt loads, some to conceal dents from demolition work. Guys around here use plywood painted black, or in a contrasting color to go with the bed. Rob

I'd do away with the visor thing myself and install self sealing stainless screws into the holes. As far as mudflaps, I'd run those old style Barry has with the dogs facing each other. I have them for most of my trucks and they are very good quality. Rob

I think you are on the right track. I am not at all impressed with the other party. Rob
  12. I'm gonna send my helper "Jaime" over your way to saw that hood in half cause that's what he likes to do. Then you won't have near the concern about the paint. Rob

Sure looks like a nice one. Hope it works out for you. Did you make your scheduled trip yesterday? Rob

There is a link on the auction page: "Ask a question". That would be your best best if there is no phone number listed. Rob

He has a buy it now price of $24,500. That is not necessarily his reserve. I'd throw your maximum amout you are willing to pay for the thing and if your bid meets his reserve price setting, wait for the end of the auction. I certainly would look at the truck first however being not that far. He may sell it for less outright. I'd talk to him straight up. Sure looks like a nice truck and I knew you weren't far. I've worked at the Texarkana radar site in the past so somewhat know the area myself. Rob
  16. Finally got the fuel starvation problems fixed on the R795. After running out of fuel several times with the tank containing the pickup full, replacing the fuel lines, fuel filters, and "kitting" the xfer pump, it was still sucking the fuel out of the secondary filter, then starving out. Same story time and time again, primary filter, (red) is full, the secondary filter, (green) is damned near bone dry. After removing the filters and filling the green one several times, I installed another pair of filters, and the problem went away. Trying to figger what the difference would make when the other filters never left the shop when running, I get a spare remote filter head, plug the threaded ports for the hoses to attach to with the exception of the inlet port, apply five psi to the inlet port and submerge the assembly in the parts washer. Lo and behold this sucker is bubbling rapidly at the crimp of the shell to the base! This could explain why I could pull fuel from the secondary filter but not from the primary. I feel like I look, (dumbass) for spending so much time chasing after something so seemingly simple. These are Mack branded filters so I'll run over to the dealer and get them replaced as defective. The truck now once again runs very sharp and crisp to throttle response. Maybe it will stay that way a while. Rob
  17. Heat is a good starting point. Don't burn the paint but elevate the temperature of the surface with a hair dryer. If the jamb space is large enough this is where you want to direct the airflow. This will cause expansion of the metal parts and has the possibility of releasing the bind. Take the latch out of the door and place in a pan of non detergent motor oil. Beg your wife to let you use the stove, (like real men do) and warm this pan to about 200 degrees. The old grease, dirt, and accumulations will melt and desolve. rinse the now clean latch assembly in diesel fuel, dry it with the hair dryer, then use a spray grease with a brush to paint moving parts. What you can't grease with a brush, spray with a solidifying spray grease like chain lube. This stuff dries and is not tacky. Rob

Hey Randy, here is a damned nice dump truck in your neck of the woods. Rob http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1988-R-Model-Mack-CLEAN-/110806808446?pt=Commercial_Trucks&hash=item19cc99b77e
  19. Ford has announced plans to acquire French automaker Renault and engineering teams have already joined forces to create the perfect small car for women. Mixing the Renault 'Clio' and the Ford 'Taurus' they have designed the 'Clitaurus'. It comes in pink, and the average male car thief won't be able to find it - let alone turn it on - even if someone tells him where it is and how to do it. Rumor has it though, it leaks transmission fluid once a month, and can be a real bitch to start in the morning! Some have reported on cold winter mornings, when you really need it, you can't get it to turn over. New models are initially fun to own, but very costly to maintain, and horribly expensive to get rid of. Used models may initially appear to have curb appeal and a low price, but eventually have an increased appetite for fuel, and the curb weight typically increases with age. Manufacturers are baffled as to how the size of the trunk increases, but say that the paint may just make it LOOK bigger. This model is not expected to reach collector status. Most owners find it is best to lease one, and replace as needed. Rob
  20. I'd certainly hope not. Rob

    Still for Sale:

If it were fairly long originally, the fasteners retaining the rear suspension could be removed and slid up towards the front. This could have been a long flatbed type dump or straight truck in it's former working life. It also could have had a lot of frame "stick out" past the rear axle and they just "whacked it off" doing nothing with the suspension, then bolting on a 5th wheel. No real way to know. Double frame straight trucks are quite common actually with air to the rear for instance. This would need a tractor protection valve like a semi tractor requires. It is also entirely possible the door tag is from another truck. The only way to get any closer would be to know the number stamped into the frame. Rob

    Yup. Happy birthday! Rob
  23. I like it too but please get the other studs and wedges installed before driving the truck!! Rob

    Still for Sale:

Looks like they rolled the axle forward on the existing frame. I'd venture to say by looking at the rust spread between the double frame rails at the rear, the center section was really bad so it was shortened to a single axle tractor. There is quite a bit of plastic used in the repair of that cab but it is not new. It has it's positives, and it's detractors but the truck is 45+ years old. Rob
  25. Be sure to wipe out the inside of the air dryer housing too. To be safe, I'd prolly get two filter cartriges and change the element again in a month or so as it could continue to trap foreign matter as the system completes it cleanup. Rob
