  1. Don't mean to be a smartass, but test your luck with a load of lumber on your truck and tell the officer the lumber is to build your own house. You very well may depart with a whole different outlook on trucking for your own use. If law enforcement can spin it, you will pay. It's very difficult, and expensive to prove them wrong. Good luck with your endeavor. I do hope you prevail. Rob
  2. The complete rear housing is different by about six inches in length. There are also different gearings available. You would be best to purchase another trans. Rob
  3. No problem with misconception but you are taking arbitrary figures literally. If it were me and the tractor weighs 12,000#, and the trailer weighs 12,000# and you wish to carry a 12,000# truck on this trailer, I would license the truck as a tractor at a minimum of 40,000# with a semi trailer plate on the trailer. As long as you do not exceed 34,000# on any tandem axle you will not overload with this weight anyplace the weight is placed on the trailer. You could also license the truck at 16,000#, and the trailer at 30,000# and get by just the same. You are now over 10,001 pounds on a single axle, (requires CDL) and you have air brakes, (requires CDL w/endorsement), and you are licensed over 26,001#, (requires CDL). If you don't have an IFTA sticker on the truck, and are out of your baseplated state, you best have all the CDL requirements satisfied and with you. Traveling without makes you a really nice item of revenue to state police agencies. It's not my ticket(s) to argue, and VA may be different than the central US, but I'd talk to a state police agency that does commercial vehicle enforcement for a straight scoop. Most of these guys aren't out looking to give you trouble, just enforce the laws. I know several officers and I can ask anything pertaining to truck operation but I prolly wouldn't get too far alongside the hiway knowingly hiding something from them. Rob
  4. I don't have a lot of history on that truck no. The deceased gent that gave it to me purchased it from JL Steel out of Chicago in 1967 who was the original owner. Sometime prior to this sale, the engine was replaced with an END673T. It was not built turbocharged but is now. He ran it pulling his dozer till 1999 when it was replaced with an R model Mack. It sat in his barn for just over 10 years when he found me. I brought it home in November of 09 and that is when the photos were taken. It is now in the shop on six jack stands with all the front sheet metal removed, and all the brakes apart. All brake parts are new and I will reassemble the mess sometime this winter. The truck runs excellent and seems to be in nice shape. I'll be pulling the cab sometime in January. Rob
  5. Let's make this simple. You have a 12,000 pound tractor. You also have a 12,000 pound trailer, (empty). Your total weight across any scale when the two are connected is 24,000#. If your consistent mode of movement was comprised of this tractor, and this trailer connected with no load, a 12,000# rating plate on the truck, and the trailer would suffice. Or, if you pulled other trailers weighing the same 12,000#, it would be more cost advantageous to license the truck as a tractor pulling unit for the same 24,000# rating and put semi trailer plates on the trailers at much less cost. Now say you want to haul another 12,000# truck on that 12,000# trailer for a gross combined weight of 36,000#. Of course your tractor plate weight rating is not heavy enough but if you go to say a 16,000# weight rating license plate, and a 24,000# license plate rating on the trailer, you are still covered. You would however most likely be less expensive to license the truck as a tractor with a weight rating of 40,000# combined weight, and license the trailer as a semi trailer for about $10.00-$12.00 a year, (some states are permanent plates). If you are going to pull multiple trailers, you are best to license the truck as a tractor. If you only pull one trailer, with either a fairly consistent load, or varying loads, you may be more cost effective to license as a truck, and trailer. Each state varies with costs. Keep in mind, anything licensed over 16,000# is required to stop at scales, and anything over 26,000# requires a log book, trip permits, IFTA, medical card etc. to go out of state. Rob
  6. Just like Jay stated. You would then license the trailer to the corresponding weight you would carry plus the weight of the trailer. You either pay for the weight rating as a tractor plate so you can pull many trailers, or you pay a partial on each unit as if you only had a single trailer to pull. Just like you would register a pickup truck, and a car, or utility trailer. Rob
  7. He has things sit quite a spell. I think you could find something for double the money this one costs and be much further ahead out the gate. The part of the rust you see in the photos is just opening hymn to the total needs. Rob
  8. Another fine example of why this geographic location should be done away with from the rest of the USA. FedEx in Peoria received last week five delivery trucks, (Freightliner) with 24 ft. boxes, and liftgates that were very clean, (I was impressed) low mileage, because after Jan 1st. they cannot be run in California. This was part of an outflux of over 200 trucks that had to be replaced with "newer" units to be able to operate there. I'm thinking the batch received here were either 06, or 07 models, all had less than 100,000 miles on the clocks, and no rust. Even the interiors were very clean. This kind of activity completely disregarding what it does to the small business owner/operator. I know I couldn't afford to purchase a new truck just so I could run in that state. I know several parties that do not haul to that state citing this garbage. Rob
  9. Hey there, I'm looking to either purchase or trade a TRDL-1071 with the really low low gear, for a TRDL-107, or 1070. These are the early to mid 70's Mack air shifted "Maxitorqe" transmissions. Nothing wrong with the six speed and shifts fine. I'd like to put this trans behind the V12 Detroit in Project R-12 instead of a Fuller RTO-12513 I have if possible. Thanks, Rob
  10. If I remember correctly he is not very flexible on pricing. I really like that truck but it's just too small for me inside. With my daughter wanting it I can justify it's existence. I may remove the back of the cab and install a standard back panel, but don't know for certain yet. Kinda depends on how the project comes together for the daughter. Rob
  11. Myself being from farm country I agree fully what you've stated. We have horses, dogs, cat, (Mouser 1), rats and mice, (until Mouser 1 gets hold of em), ferret, and whatever sick, injured, or underpriveledged stray daughter seems to bring home. My dogs are pound rescues, the cat picked up when someone else dumped em, the ferret cause the other party wanted it no longer, (due to being a stinkin motherfucker). The horse, well that is Nikki's and her interest solely since it does not perform work. I eat cows on a routine basis. The dogs eat horse, cattle, chicken, and whatever else is dreamed up in their food supply. The cat eats fish, poultry, cattle, rats, mice, and anything else he gets hold of. The ferret eats cat food also, I used to threaten to feed the ferret to the cat but they get along too good. The cat can beat the shit out of the dogs so that don't work neither. The dogs do nothing of any good except companionship, (I still have to tie a pork chop round my neck to get them to play with me), and the horse just burns hay, and costs a lot in vet bills. Yeah I give them ethical treatment. When one dies, I get either a shovel or the skid steer to dig a hole in the yard and pitch em in. Even have done that with a couple of horses too. I take solace in that I have given them a better life than they could have ever received no matter how long it was, had we not crossed paths. We as humans are at the top of the food chain on this planet. In some places, humans still consume humans. Fortunatly in this country at least there are enough tasty animals and members of other food groups we don't have to do that. Personally I think PETA people "screw small animals" and that is just one of their hangups. The morons that support this type of activity need to be used as "plink" to get things back into perspective. Of course you could just ship them all to California, then blast that land mass free of the encumbrance the rest of the USA presents. Rob
  12. A few old ones of my junk. The "custom" full fenders on the rear have been done away with. Rob
  13. I think the tires, the hubs, etc. predate, or shortly date after WW2 myself. I've had several trucks that have set for 35 plus years with the same tread pattern as the steer axle on this unit has. It looks to be some type of interplant "mule", but what for I don't know. Old Caterpillar photos show a bell mounted on some of their units used internally within the plants for moving new machinery around so I'm not swayed it is a fire bell but could be very wrong. You gotta remember we didn't always have electronic movement alarms. Rob
  14. Uhhhh, Joe, I don't have a clue as to an answer for your questions, but could you please send me a large sample of that jerky?????? Rob
  15. These people need their heads examined cause they are nut jobs. Maybe they should quit forgetting their causes as they chomp on their next steak, or hamburger at dinnertime. How the fuck do they think a tomato feels as it is sliced, chopped, or diced to smaller pieces? How bout the flower arrangement sitting on their table? Doesn't a flower have it's extremities "whacked off" with scissors, or other sharp objects? What does a fish do to deserve to have a hook set deep in it's jaws? Lobsters, how do they feel when submersed live into a pot of boiling water? This whole group needs sent back to Uranus where they belong. I'll enjoy my steak, well done to perfection, (of course). Rob
  16. Yessirrr. That is what the photo is from. Rob

    Parts B61:

I went by and did not see either the "R", or the B model. It was dark but neither truck was visible via my very bright spotlight. Maybe they were no longer there? Rob
  18. Any time for Jeff to reconsider? Although untrue; Tell him we're running out of material here at BMT; that should sway him!! Rob
  19. Drano is little more that caustic soda, (sodium hydroxide) and is very inexpensive if purchased by itself. Purchasing this product in a pre packaged product such as "Drano" ups the price of the chemical just about 1000 times and I'm not kidding. Rob
  20. Make certain that Vulva is clean before you stick your face in it and you won't have gas. Rob
  21. Now I am offended right back!! I like it. Rob

    By the gallon:

My apologies rendered Glenn as we all know how cognizant of other's feelings I am. Stand by for more! Rob
  23. It's alright as long as you don't let out a long AHHHHHHH as you shove your fingertips up your nostrils. What do you use to clean the frumunda cheese out from under your fingernails? I used to use a pocketknife, or straight slot screwdriver but no need any longer.......... Rob
  24. I'm simple. I go by rswallows. Always have. Rob
