    Dumb A$$

Geez, I'd be lost if'n I has to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but th truth cause it was just "Yesterday, I told a hundred lies, and that's the truth", (Lilly Tomlin, ie. Laugh In). Rob
  2. Shelf stock color. I need to get this stuff off to you as I'm cleaning shop, (again). Rob
  3. Neither do I but I don't sound like a spammer. Rob
  4. Not necessarily so. A guess would be the same company, or dealership for stock ordered the chassis on the same production order. When they were actually built, together or not, I have no way to know. I know grandpa ordered two R611's on the same day with one being a tandem, the other a single drive and they came in about three months apart but the serial numbers were just like you mentioned. Rob
  5. I have actually seen the scenario prior myself with two of grandpa's trucks. Both were built on the same order. Vinny's truck is a U685ST denoting it was built as a tandem. The other U685T was built as a a single drive axle. These are both original configurations. The models are different but the sequential build/serial number very well could be correct. Rob
  6. I don't have a good answer as to which is better or why. For years all the OEM companies ran and specified ATF in their power steering units for lubrication. I do know by design criteria ATF does shed latent (absorbed) heat faster that conventional engine oil and that may have had something to do with it but as Grant mentioned; ATF is designed to have more viscous stability throughout it's operating temperature range that engine oil. I'm not a big fan of multi viscosity oil myself although I run 15W40 in my four stroke diesels. I'm a very strong holdout in "old technology" that actually works. The detergents in motor oil do not actually "scrub" the internals of an engine. These additives actually hold contaminates (by products of combustion) in suspension until the oil filter(s) can capture and contain it. These type particulates do not exist in a power steering system. My personal belief is streamlining of products on the assembly line is the reasoning behind the change, although I have no proof of any kind. I change all fluids on my vehicles ever 24 months including power steering fluid and it is replaced with ATF. Never had any problems. Rob
  7. You are quite welcome. This is without a doubt the best site on the net dealing with Mack Trucks and related products. The people make it what it is. Rob
  8. Yup. Number one should be send me that PTO and adapter with the stud kit for my B67. How much you need for it? Rob
  9. Assuming the main components are still in the chassis and double framed I'd say about 14,000-16,000 pounds. Lot of metal there. Sad to think so many see only dollars as to value. Rob
  10. There should be a filter in the reservoir also. Might not be a bad idea to drain the system, change the filter, and refill. That would be a great time to change over. I'd run a quart of ATF through the system with the return to reservoir line disconnected while cranking the engine over with the engine kill cable pulled out. This will allow the system to flush. Rob
  11. Many of the colors marketed as "Performance Red" will be in line with what you are looking for most likely. These have a pretty high solids base composition to them and don't require a lot of material for coverage. Red being the second most expensive pigment to acquire drives the cost up so you would be best to use a tintable undercoat to lessen the burden of the topcoat cost. Don't skimp on the clearcoat if you decide to go that way. Rob
  12. I'll have to remember that. Rob
  13. Fastest traffic ticket generator followed closely by yellow too. Statistics you know. Rob
  14. If you pick up a piece of equipment at Morton I'll take you to a place that will build one to your specs just around the corner. Rob
  15. "Fire engine red", (as it's called) has an enormous amount of blue, and black in it for the deep hue that one sees. For brightness to the eye you need to stay away from these colors. Bright, or brilliant red has a bit of intense yellow, white, a touch of black, and plenty or red/orange intermixing base.Ferrari has the brightest red I've ever sprayed as does Lamborghini, (both Pinafarina colors). Rob
  16. Corporate Mack Red is not that bright. If you are willing to go non original, shop a paint jobber, (vendor) and look through the color books. GM, as well as Ford and Chrysler have brilliant bright reds available as do many import nameplates. Purchase good stuff or it will go pink as the hue deteriorates through exposure to the elements. Rob
  17. I still prefer and use ATF Dexron II fluid. I also like, and use, power steering coolers. I've never had problems and the steering is not "notchy", or requires increased effort during winter months when cold. Those with engine oil in the reservoir have been changed years ago. Not saying this is right, but it does work for me. Rob
  18. I'd like to pursue this acquistion, (and endure the forthcoming inquisition when my wife finds out) so if you could put me in touch with the current owner that would be great. Thanks for your help. When I get out there to pick it up I'll buy grubb. Rob Auto Affair Inc. 33545 N. IL Rt. 78 Farmington, IL 61531 309-219-2070 (cell) robsautoaffair@gmail.com
  19. Miller is another one of those "great consolidators" in the marketplace. They tend to buy up the smaller guy and operate the company semi autonomous. Many of the products offered by the Miller group are results of innovations from smaller companies that are then purchased. For a short time I had a Champion steel flatbed. It was not that great and the rails wore quite rapidly. It was replaced with a much nicer Century bed. Both of these are Miller products and I really didn't have any problems but when depreciation time came about, the representing dealer was definately willing to undercut, and talk down anybody else they didn't represent. I found this to be a "turn off" and unprofessional. I wound up purchasing a "No-Mar" brand carrier and subsequently three more over time due to both dealer support on both the structural and engineering ends, plus a seemingly personal interest that the equipment was meeting/exceeding my needs. I can't say there was really any type of problems other than minor along to way, but I was hard on drivers that didn't maintain equipment properly. No-Mar was a small company owned and operated by the Buske family out of Pocahontas, IA for many years. They are gone now and I find this most unfortunate as their business etique was what, and how an american company needs to be run. I felt their pricing was not out of line, and the equipment heavier than needed to do the job, but the rendered service far outweighed any detractors. When you had a problem or question, you talked to Chuck Buske himself, and he knew the product line. When I expressed interest in purchasing my first carrier, I was invited for a complete, (and I mean complete) tour of the production facility. This started in the office, and ended at the delivery station encompassing all facets of production from raw steel to finished product. I was free to intermingle amongst the production employees at will also. No such luck with a Miller product. Keep in mind I support small business strongly in my endeavors as small business supports me. Purchase that conglomerate produced item and you help shut another small business down. Just my opinion(s). Rob
  20. I've been noticing that also. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea for either the webmaster, or moderators to filter out and discard all the dead memberships that pop up. There are several registered users without a single post to credit. These can be purged I would think. Several precautions are available to ensure "spammers" like this guy, and the SWJR fool don't get through to post garbage. Rob
  21. Shit yes I done met the boy. Actually shook his hand, (been a while however). He axed me "How's I doin?" so I handed him his 32 month report card of progress. Boy didn't want anything else to do with me after that.... Rob32 Month Report Card.doc
  22. I use 15W40 Delo in my V8 engines without problems.Rob
  23. Be careful Grant, that much pressure will destroy gaskets and seals quickly. Rob
  24. That would be great. Can you get some detailed photos for me? You can stay fairly generic in nature but I'm particularly interested in the frame, (if stretched) and if the cab has been cut for both the sleeper addition, and the controls for the pump apparatus. It's not that I can't fix just about anything but wondering the amount of work to either repair, or recab the chassis. Between "Momma" and these damned "700" series Macks, ole Rob is on the short end of the lifespan. Thanks, Rob
  25. Holy Geezus! Peoples actually worrying bout me? What a change! Been real busy trying to get a couple radars back into operation after burn downs. Had to get back on here to ensure my honor wasn't being compromised you know. Rob
