  1. Here is an example: The section of the blue cab that is missing is incorporated into the R700. It is the piece the hood closure strap mounts to on the lower cowl, drivers side. This piece was busted out and gone of the 700 cab when I got it. I cut the donor piece out with a slice wheel, and trimmed the receiver with the same wheel to make the section fit. It was then welded in solid and works great. The cracks in the floorboard are of the 700 cab and have since been welded up solid, and ground flat. I have about 20 manhours in repairing the hood panel also. It was a mess both cosmetically, and structurally. Rob
  2. Got the king pin set today and it's everything it's supposed to be. Much higher quality than what could be purchased new also. I'm about as happy as a pig in shit right now. Think I'll head to the store and get me a big ole bag of "Cheetos" to celebrate. Rob
  3. The X1071 is the number set that is an identifier. It is a straight five speed trans with a 11.23:1 first gear reduction, (from memory). I don't have any books here at home so can't be certain. The "TR" I mentioned earlier is Mack nomenclature for transmission; "X" denotes heavy, or extreme duty, (triple countershaft) and 107 is the basic gearset, and I think the "1" means a lower reduction first gear. Rob
  4. Hi Glenn. On the generators I sample and adjust the ph balance quarterly. I use only green coolant and it is changed every other year or 100 running hours, (whichever is first). I've never had any problems in all the years I've maintained gensets. I have two new radiators coming back from recore next week and need a fresh barrel purchased and had never heard the term used before. Thanks, Rob
  5. I seen a post over at thd diesel garage mentioning a "low silicate" type antifreeze. Never have heard of the stuff before. I always purchase green antifreeze by the barrel and this has never been metioned in the past. Is this new, or necessary in these older trucks? Rob
  6. Burglars would bury in my back yard much the same as a dead pet. I only have a 9mm Beretta 92F military pistol I purchased new in 1986 when first released for public sale. With this gun I learned to shoot and qualify well with the USMC while the Navy. It does stay loaded with 10 in the magazine and a round in the chamber. I prefer jacketed 124 grain hollow point for the stopping power offered in the compact shell. I am a firm believer in that you do not shoot to wound. Rob
  7. Guess even 1/2 steps in the right direction are better than no steps at all. Still a PACCAR product. Rob
  8. Don't think he'll do that again. I made him put the last one back together on his time and he was not too happy bout it. I made certain he could not make me happy with the job too I think he burned the sawzall. Rob
  9. naw, that is the tank the sump is blown out of. Rob
  10. Coarse ground black will only do. Rob

  12. Today is Andy in west Oz's day down under. Happy B'day Andy. Rob
  13. It'd prolly leak out all over the driveway. Rob
  14. It was an experimental atomic powered version and does not use diesel fuel. It put the five year mission of the original "Star Trek" to shame. Rob
  15. There was over 90, (yes, 90) of those sonofabitches under the dashboard, in the firewall area(s), and tailights of project R-12 when I brought it home. This does not count all the barrel splices either. Altogether there was over 135 "Scotchlok" type splices in the harness in this one truck. Rob
  16. Hi Leslie, I've slated that stuff for the back of a 58 B61 that is back there someplace. This 72 R model is the first truck I ever rebuilt an engine in back in high school, (many years ago); hence the reason I purchased it when it would no longer pass inspection. I sold that ole 237 about 11 years ago and have slowly used parts from this truck along the way. Sections of it's cab are now welded into "Project R-12". Rob
  17. Gawd, don't use no fiberous rope. "Momma" chewed through those restraints less than 1/2 mile down the road. She was really pissed too cause the wind was blowing her hair so bad it was revealing her bald spot and that may have contributed; (you know she does have pride). Rob
  18. That is what I've strapped the kids to the back of the cab for. They can report back any vibrations noted after the fear subsides. I tried it once with "Momma", but she was too heavy and the truck didn't bounce at all. Rob

    "U" model:

http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/2657980179.html Doesn't look like too bad of truck with low mileage.
  20. There will be numbers hand stamped into the left side of the transmission. It should be something like: TRL-107, (if a five speed) or a series of letters and numbers. This information will help you as you can't tell what model is being sold by the photo. Rob
  21. He has a lesson to learn for certain. Wait till he rolls a tire off the bead, or tears out a sidewall due to the push the neck of the trailer will impart on the truck and possibly wind up in a jackknife situation. I would hold no reservations as to selling someone something they want. Sounds to me like you tried to educate so you cannot do more. I always tend to err on the side of caution cause I have been to a few fatality accidents that involved operating equipment beyond it's design criteria. We all must remember; "We can't fix stupid". If someone chooses to ignore warning signs the liability is upon them and I have a clear conscience. Rob
  22. There is always help available when something like that happens; some good, some not so good. Seems most every year in the local homecoming parade someone has an antique car, or tractor give trouble during the route, (usually John Deere) LOL. Of course, none of this is televised for the world to view........ Rob
  23. Kinda getting tired of looking at this derelict POS so put Jaime onto getting something done. I dragged in my 72 R model that has been relegated to "parts only" status to cut out some donor sheet metal. In the photos he is seeming in drip edge so we can get the roof back on the cab. The radiator shots are of the "Project R-12" truck. This radiator was evidently "shot"? I received another from a fellow member but it too was not usable so it is currently being recored with a five row pack. This should cool the V-12 adequately which will eventually reside under the hood. Edit: Damn, I must have been elevated to the next chapter of, and beyond stupid. Forgot to attach photos!! Rob
  24. Damn, I almost shit on myself when I learnt I taught somebody sumpin. Rob
