    This Just In

Seen that a bit ago. Hopefully it's true. Rob
  2. I think it was the 1974 model year when vin numbers in North America went from 11 characters to 13. 1980 brought out the 17 character vin numbers which we have today. This is for automobiles at least and I'm uncertain of heavy trucks.
  3. I certainly can't disagree with the analogy. What is the difference in appearance and fitment? Rob
  4. HI Ernie, I really don't have any way to research anything with the number except through the Mack museum or tasking someone at a dealership. You are however missing a digit in your vin number to the truck as it should be 13 characters long. Nice to see so many of these R700 series trucks still around and in memory. Rob
  5. Hi Glenn, I've never done anything to this engine except rebuild the oil cooler last winter. It was putting coolant into the oil and oil into the cooling system so everything was a mess. To top it off, I cut my left thumb to the bone on the oil filter itself cause it was stuck in the container and I still don't have any feeling in it. It took 16 stitches internal and external to close the wound. I'm going to pull this truck down to bare rails to reseal everything and send the pump in for calibration at the least, so it will need retimed upon reinstall. I'll give you a call sometime as I've never done one. Rob
  6. Anything left of the originals? I think replacements are going to be expensive but I'm not familiar. Rob
  7. Hi Glenn, yes sir it is a Woodward. I had them on gensets until the late 1980's. We did away with them because their percent of regulation was less than the electronic types offered by AMBAC. They certainly allow the engine to crank a long time before starting if you don't prefill the full flow oil filter after an oil change!! Gotta get that thing full and pressurized before the governor will allow fuel rack movement. Rob
  8. Nice day today cleaning up around the shop.

  9. Yup, on jack stands with all ten tires and brakes pulled off. The truck hasn't been started in almost a year, (maybe more) but with a fresh set of batteries it cranked about 30 seconds and fired off. This engine has one of those hydraulic governors so it takes awhile after the oil pressure builds to stabilize. The truck ran good and barely smoked until rapping the throttle lever, then it really smokes! It was a nice day this morning so I had both shop overhead doors open. I also started my R795 after it's winter nap. It also cranked a bit but fired willingly. Nice to hear them run again. Rob
  10. If you can set the meeting up in the evening and I'll go with you. I'm staying at my boys's place about 12 miles south of Kanzler's yard just off 59. Rob
  11. Anything with the name "Clinton" attached is automatically discounted as trash; never have heard of the other two. Rob
  12. But I think Meghan Kelly is a very pretty woman. Rob
  13. Trent: Any good radiator shops around Kanzler's yard area? I need to get my RL797 recored and don't care for any of the shops in Peoria. E6 series water pumps are easy to get reman and are not expensive. Thanks, Rob
  14. Peoria airport had a bunch of airfield equipment powered by 1674 Caterpillar engines. All were in the 275hp range if I remember correctly. Seems like they didn't much care to go a lot higher and yield good service. Rob
  15. You ain't shittin parts are expensive for this engine. Just an overhaul gasket set was over $1000.00 for the three piece set priced retail. My wife can purchase a bit less expensive. I will be working at O'hare field all next week. I will try to physically get a look at this RL to straighten it out further. I'm going to call the Mack museum, and maybe some local police agency's to see if I can find something in the national database of current registered trucks. Got a few more things dug out of the shop today and I can actually walk up to my truck now. Still can't flip the hood open cause another B61 chassis blocks the way. Rob
  16. Let's keep going on this to see how many still exist. So far, mine is the only known survivor with a 1693 still under the hood. Rob
  17. Like many other expenses it is covered by the increase in the price you pay. Rob
  18. The party I was talking with was only looking to reproduce the rubber, not the entire assembly. Rob
  19. I was working with a guy a year or so back that was trying to reproduce them. I'll have to dig in the files if I still have em to go further. I know you can't purchase the seal separately yet they all go bad. Rob
  20. I'm unfamiliar with the term "no draft". Do you mean the "wing window" in the doors? Rob
  21. That could be cause Heinz has dozens of trucks of all types. Rob
  22. I remember two long hood R model dump trucks in the Peoria area with 1674 engines but it has been years since I've seen them. They were blue in color is all I really remember but they were aluminum frames. Seems like they belonged to Heinz Bros. Construction but not certain. I didn't know what an "RL" series truck meant in those days. Rob
  23. Yes, Bob Eckstein's truck was "Phantom 309" after Red Sovines' hit single. Rob
  24. Here is a link with a photo of my truck in it's former working life. Rob http://www.baxmeyerconstruction.com/
  25. I just pass them on... It is comedy..... How do you turn a fox into an elephant? Marry It! What is the difference between a battery and a woman? A battery has a positive side. Why is the space between a woman's breasts and her hips called a waist? Because you could easily fit another pair of tits in there.. How do you make 5 pounds of fat look good? Put a nipple on it. Why do women fake orgasms ? Because they think men care. What do you say to a woman with 2 black eyes? Nothing, she's been told twice already. If your wife keeps coming out of the kitchen to nag at you, what have you done wrong? Made her chain too long Why is a Laundromat a really bad place to pick up a woman? Because a woman who can't even afford a washing machine will probably never be able to support you. Why do women have smaller feet than men? It's one of those 'evolutionary things' that allows them to stand closer to the kitchen sink. Why do men pass gas more than women? Because women can't shut up long enough to build up the required pressure. If your dog is barking at the back door and your wife is yelling at the front door, who do you let in first ? The dog, of course. He'll shut up once you let him in. Scientists have discovered a food that diminishes a woman's sex drive by 90%.. It's called a Wedding Cake. Why do men die before their wives? They want to.
