  1. You're asking for a whole lot of problems if you use that stuff. Replace it and be done. Rob
  2. Been looking into that cost. I have several rolls of plastic line in differing sizes. The fittings can be purchased for both ends of the plastic line at less money than three feet of -6 line in Aeroquip style hose. That stuff is very high dollar. Kinda like to stay original but the cost seems to be prohibitive when working with low pressure pneumatics. Rob
  3. Rebuild kits are readily available. You can rebuild the assembly for about $60.00 or so and it takes about an hour. Another cause of system bleeding down could be the check valve, or valves installed into the wet tank inlet. If these don't seal the system pressure will discharge throught the compressor valves that are not designed to seal and hold back pressure. No need to replace this unit unless the main housing is corroded. You can buy the complete rebuilt baseplate assembly and basically everything would be new. Rob
  4. I always ran AD-4 series on my trucks if they had dryers. Never had problems with any of them but they were serviced with OEM Bendix kits yearly. I found this much less expensive than being broke down someplace. I have two trucks with AD-2 series and they work well also but are a bit expensive to work on. I installed new heaters yearly also. Rob
  5. Today I went to move my 74 RL and upon mashing the brake release button, promptly blew a brake hose feeding the rear rear brake chambers from the frame mounted quick release valve. This truck has wedge brakes that work very well. They are completely rebuilt and offer no problems. However, every air line on this truck is "Aeroquip" style braided and this line is horrendously expensive. I know all the newer trucks are plastic, but I'm wondering if there are any alternatives less expensive? I'll bet a guy could spend over a thousand dollars just in air line used in the braking system if they wanted to; I don't unless necessary, but I do plan to replace everything when the truck is rebuilt. Any ideas? Does any line need to be DOT stamped to not be put out of service? Thanks, Rob
  6. Well, I got to say straight off a "cum pizza" does not appeal to me at all. That being said; There are literally dozens of "push cart" vendors with many different types of food daily outside the Caterpillar plants and offices during the lunch breaks. So lucrative has been this business enterprise(s) the city fathers just have to have a piece of the pie. The permits, taxes, space rental, (public sidewalks) are all costly. Numerous vendors have deemed the enterprise too costly to continue citing the continuing battle to offset new overhead costs that appear yearly. Similar to your proposed endeavor: I have a customer that wanted his old F6 Ford truck rebuilt to pull his trailer where he vendors "kettle korn" at venues. This has been very lucrative and involves the complete family to operate. The truck actually garners much attention as it is near pristine with the exception of modern running gear. We took the truck completely apart, rebuilt and/or replaced nearly everything, had the grille, and headlamp bezels chromed while the local Ford dealership fitted a new 5.4ltr engine and automatic trans. A new polished stainless diamond stamped skin vendors/concessions body with hinged opening sides was installed and all supplies and copper kettles are carried inside a trailer towed behind. A pretty sharp looking outfit that does a lot of horse shows and state fair type celebrations. They must be making money cause they've been at it over ten years now. I think with the right mindset you can prosper. Be prepared for some long hours. Rob
  7. Looks like a Bendix AD-9 to me. If the purge valve is not sealing in the bottom of the unit the air system will be slow to build and bleed off when the engine is shut down. Rob
  8. They actually exist. Rob
  9. It was discovered I was so smart they asked me to leave after only one day. Rob
  10. That is a "Midland" compressor. It is easy to service and the unloader rebuild kit comes with instructions. There will be a tag affixed to the compressor that will identify which unit it actually is. Most trucks are like women in nature. They know us men have needs only they can provide. Be nice offering love, affection, respect, and such, and the relationship will go far. Meet up with some psycopath, (typically Peterbilt) and have your life planned, charted, administered, and orchestrated with poor "service" throughout your time together. Rob
  11. I've found "open face" broasted cat to not be bad, but greasy. Also gives a guy gas that would knock a buzzard off a shit wagon at 50 paces downwind of the purveyor. Boiled with carrot, lima and pinto beans, potatoes, along with european black pepper corns yeilds a scrumptious delicacy that won't soon be forgotten. Of course natural aging through seven days of direct sunlight in mid September adds to the deliciousity content exponentially. Rob
  12. I've had US Cellular for almost 15 years and throughly pleased with the service. Rob
  13. Wrong Channel. Usually "Looney Tunes". I just can't get into this new wave stuff. Rob
  14. I'm still recovering from "Momma" Bitch Slapping me last night for opening my mouth when she says I shouldn't have...... Other than that, I'm doing fine. Sounds like the unloaders in the compressor head are sticking partially open. Rebuild kits are under $20.00 and they are easy to install. Get some denatured alcohol to clean up the area(s) under the access covers on the compressor when apart. If a Midland compressor, be certain to lube up the valves and seals with the enclosed grease liberally. Rob
  15. The drag link "torque link" should have barely discernable play in it before it starts to moving the steering components. This "play" is only about .090 each direction of centered when no torque is upon the steering linkage. This play is taken up just as the steering wheel is begun to turn. This internal play opens and closes a series of valves internal to the torque link routing air or hydraulic fluid to the actual steering cylinder attached to the linkage under the truck on the center link that connects each steering spindle. If you have a lot of internal play in the torque link, it is shot as they are not rebuildable. Replacements are damned hard to get hold of also. Rob

"Lipstick on a Pig". "Momma" asked me how a new lipstick looked on her once and that was my answer. You have met my wife and I'm certain can imagine how she dealt with me for that one. It was not a happy day for ole Rob I tell ya. Rob

Don't know how much wholesale road repair will go on this summer. I think Obama has done outspent his welcome. Hope it gets better for you. Rob
  18. Ever watch something like "New Yankee Workshop"? How many people have the amount, or quality of tools this show provides. How many of those tools do you think Norm Abrams actually owns? I always get a kick out of how easy the camera and production crew makes the first cut right. Never works that way for me. It's all about sponsorship. Rob
  19. Damn. Southpaw rodent and you didn't trap it so I don't go hungry???? Stupid mousers make a mess out of em before I get there. Rob
  20. I purchased my new phone last year cause it is waterproof to 30 feet for 30 minutes. After testing it while swimming last year I can say it works well. I'm told it will take photos too but I've not tried yet. A damned phone is for talking and that's about it as far as I'm concerned. Rob
  21. Yes that is short. The chassis is straight back in the aisle of the shop in the photo. I've got to get onto that project sometime. Rob
