  1. Now don't worry about that. You will be relieved to know I had her "fixed" at the clinic. Prolly shouldn't listen to her when she talks about cubs neither. She is a cubs fan; The Chicago Cubs! Rob
  2. Been a long time but I remember "Scrubby Bear". She was obsessed with cleanliness so I made off with her sister instead. Now if that damned Randy P. would just bring her back....... Rob
  3. Sounds to me like you have a smaller orifice diameter in the dump valve than you like. These restrict the flow of oil from the cylinder on the return to tank. Most of these can be pulled and another installed for desired speed. On a single hose system the orifice restricts both the extension and retraction. Hydraulic pressure easily overcomes this restriction on the extension cycle. With a two line setup, the orifice restriction will only be in the retraction line. If it were mine, I'd pull the orifice and leave it out but install an adjustable hydraulic restriction valve. These install in the oil path and you adjust it to the speed you want it to operate at. After adjustment, lock it in place and should never need adjusted again unless you install another floor and need to slow it down a bit due to empty weight. Rob
  4. Take away the "handouts" that are readily available and watch how hungry, and how fast they get that way. If I hadn't been there and seen that in other countries, I wouldn't be so strong in my beliefs. Rob
  5. Use common sense and don't stop anyplace near the populace. However; mailbox posts are by all means less expensive than the legal system we have in place nowadays. Rob
  6. I realize I'm prolly in the minority but I was always a big fan of "dragging" an offender, or wrongdoer for correction/punishment. They used to use horses, saddlehorn, and a rope around an offenders' ankles but these days a trailer hitch on a pickup truck would do the same. Rob
  7. We get a call from my daughter in law yesterday afternoon. Seems my boy is snowboarding off the roof of his house into the yard. I should have some photos before long to post cause this I got to see!! They live just west of Chicago in Warrenville, IL. Rob
  8. I know what you mean. Seldom does a weekend pass that is not used to "catch up" on things needed for the personal vehicles or get a job done so it doesn't clutter the beginning of the week. It is snowing here again but not much for accumulation. I'm wanting the ice to melt off so I can get a couple things done outside while on a ladder. The wind took off a couple closing panels on my building and they need put back on so the sunlight and cold air stays outside. Good employees are difficult to hire, and retain. I've been there and done that. Heartbreaking to realize how many people don't want to work but certainly expect a fat paycheck. Rob
  9. Damn, you guys talking about work into my Sunday morning makes me tired. Think I'll go get another cup of coffee, sit on my ass and vegitate for a while longer cause I'm now exhausted. Rob
  10. Seen this on youtube:
  11. I miss all kinds of good shows cause we don't have anything but basic TV. No cable or anything at all. Usually see the stuff on youtube. Rob
  12. Was the car one of those GM sequential Multi Port Injection systems; maybe a 3.1, or 3.4, or 4.3 V6 engine? Those damned things clog the upper intake terrible and won't idle when they get about 70,000 miles or so. Seen lots of shops misdiagnose those with fuel pumps, EGR valves, and MAP sensors. I think the IAC motors should be replaced at about 80,000 miles as preventative measure. Rob
  13. Tony, (16390) is having a birthday today and prolly hoping for some Mack parts as a gift. Happy b-day Tony! Rob
  14. By the time you purchase politicians, there IS little money left. Happy Birthday. Rob
  15. Things really are getting back to normal here. Snow plows are still out at all hours but the back steets and alleys are getting most of the attention now. I can't in any fashion get back to a few of my outlying facilities but no reported problems through the storms so no real hurry. Damned cold here and I could do without that! Rob
  16. 36 year "tour of duty"? You are to be looked up to sir. Why I feel so slighted knowing I waited until 17 to marry "Momma", which only gives me 33 years. Rob
  17. Boy, I don't have any problem believing something is buried in the snow. My son in Warrenville has nearly 5 ft. in his front yard. He had to crawl out a side window and shovel the doors clear to open!! Rob
  18. It does smoke but not any worse than the other trucks. The fuel is several years old and the engine does not appear to use oil. I've never had a load other than a short duration run with the empty trailer and there is a lot of idle time on the truck. I'm certain it is loaded up and could use a good run to clean it out. This "popping" has been there since I've had the truck and it goes away after the truck idles a couple of minutes. I have noticed though a sharp acceleration from idle and the engine does have a slight "stumble" but does not hesitate. Really have thought it was going to need injector work when I started it on the trailer that hauled it here. Even the delivery driver said it smooths out when after a couple minutes. Seems like everything I get never makes me happy until the pump, injectors, and brakes are all rebuilt. Expensive, but the "peace of mind" seems to be worth the cost. Rob
  19. I wish I still had a mind!! I'll give you a call later tonight. Much like you, moving a lot of snow these days but I'm still wanting that lathe! I now have a trailer to haul it with too. Rob
  20. Went to start my winch truck yesterday to move to a spot where it wouldn't be in the way given the forcast for the recent weather. Now this truck has never started as easily as it should and takes a while to smooth out. However when I started it this last time, it took an exceptional long time to smooth and now has a distinctive pop through the exhaust till the engine gets a little heat in it. After that, doesn't run bad. I have three new injectors in the cabinet a guy gave me that are rebuilt and never installed. Think I'll pull all of them from the engine to send with these three "spares" to the fuel shop when I pick up my V8 pump and injectors currently over there. Sounds like a good time to check compression and run the overhead too while partially apart. Rob
  21. I don't have any books at home with me to research but the 1980 model year extended to 17 alphanumeric symbols for v.i.n. numbers from 13. I'm thinking for the 1979 model year that engine was still called an ENDT676 series. Rob
  22. Same here but a little more. I couldn't get into work, or my shop. I've been in the skid steer a good portion of the day cleaning drives. Rob
  23. I was able to build a hardware package when I did the brakes on my A40. I took all the old hardware to the parts store(s) and matched them up. I was surprised how much of that stuff is common. The parts stores I deal with have been in business many, many years. The newer stores mentioned in earlier posts don't compare when it comes to service. Don't rule out checking with truck service garages that have been around a while also. I have several contacts in my area that don't mind helping me out on something when in a jam for parts. Rob
  24. Maybe he has recognized he is an idiot? Rob
  25. There really seems to be no reason. I've seen several threads come from nowhere as fresh posts several times since the server was changed a couple of years ago. Rob
