  1. There is a Chevy couterpart to the General that runs around here working/hauling asphalt in the warmer months. It was a road tractor before being converted to an end dump. This thing is a rag as far as interior quality. Seems like a bloated 3/4 ton rusted Chevy from the 70's. Too much broken plastic all over for my liking. At least with an R model Mack, parts to repair are plentiful. This Chevy, although the 350 Cummins and RT-9513 run well, it is difficult to get specialty parts for. This one is on Reyco four spring and probably a 225" wheelbase or so. In all fairness this truck sees a lot of different drivers now where it was owner/operator driven in an earlier life. Rob
  2. I still speak with a lot of the old hands occasionally. Most grew tired of the bickering that seemed to be prevelant with some participants. I too like it better than what was there in the late 90's into the early 2000's but there is much room for improvement. Hard to believe there are so many "limitations, and restrictions" in place that are unreasonable in this day and age. Until they get someone a little progressive, they will not progress, or move forward. I don't say that disliking anyone, just pretty confident of what it takes to prosper and stagnation is not it.   3. I've seen a lot of truck leaks though the cab/clearance lamps on the roof also and the water runs down the "A" pillar onto the floor behind the cowl. Seal those up also. Rob
  4. I get most of my glass supplies from a wholesaler in either Ohio, or N. Dakota. I think the applicator gun is about $40.00, and the butyl is probably $15.00 a can. I'll see if I have any that is good, (haven't used it in a couple of years) and send it to you. A one time use would hardly be worth the purchase price to get set up. Don't think a glass shop would charge that much however. Rob
  5. Don't know if it was the final or not but the way the website was run, and managed, was a big player. I think they would benefit from a new website administrator or board as the current "regime" does not support the membership adequately. Current website administrator seems to like to play "sherriff" which is an elected position. Time for a change. Rob
  6. You need a butyl type sealer that comes in a pint can. This can screws onto a special gun that looks like a pump oiler with a trigger. Insert the wand into the space between the front of the glass and the rubber channel and squeeze it in. Go around the complete perimeter. This stuff is still soft and pliable after 30 years so you can remove the glass easily later. Don't use urethane adhesive as you'll destroy the perimeter moulding should you ever need to remove the glass again. I like to do the outside of the pinchweld area before bedding the moulding into it also. No water migrates under that way. Rob
  7. I've never worked on a Mack engine but a Detroit has a tool that looks similar to an injector to install the copper sleeve. Rob
  8. I turned the "electric sun" (8000 watt paint cure lamp) onto the old perimeter seal for the rear window tonight. Keep that rubber at 175 degrees and it gets really pliable. Man did that work good. I was able to stretch it back about 1.5" in length, and the ends touch at the bottom of the slider frame like they're supposed to. Should have glued it in place but I didn't think about it at the time. Really didn't feel like working in the shop tonight so didn't turn the heat up and it's only about 38 degrees in there. As the rubber cools down it will take a "set" around the frame and easily slip into the cab opening. Maybe tomorrow. Should have a trailer tomorrow. Rob

  12. I have a "warm" 360 Dodge engine on the shop floor I built about 12 years ago. It was originally a cop car engine and had the "J" series heads on it. I had them opened up with 2.02" intakes, and 1.60" exhaust to breath a little better. The dog leg to the exhaust passages was smoothed down a little but there really wasn't a lot to take off there or you'd be into the exhaust valve stem. I even purchased a brand new Mopar Performance flywheel and had it balanced to the rotating mass, then never used it..... Always planned to put it into my Barracuda and save the original engine from further abuse, but I got old between then and now. Rob
  13. A lot of you guys don't know John Evans as he was never an avid poster on this site,.He was however on the ATHS site a lot in the early days. I wouldn't mind seeing a bunch of you guys sending him an email through the board to ask him to come back to posting. He is a retired heavy truck parts man and a wealth of information. Pretty certain he got tired of all the "tadu's" over on the ATHS site and quit posting altogether. He was one that enjoyed the truck hobby and offered sound advice for those concerning their projects. Like Glenn, James, and several others, I think he'd be a real asset to have back on here again.   15. Yup. I had "906" heads on a 451 that I built. SOB would scare the pants off "Momma", (good thing too)!! I always liked a 383 even stock. Everything I had was hard on left side motor mounts and rear tires. "Momma" always said it was my driving style but what does she know........ I'm still partial to the little 340 engine myself. The cars drove so much better with a small engine and stiff torsion bars with good shocks. Rob

  18. On cars with an ECM, (1984 and newer, therabouts) I always take the battery cables loose before welding. I've never burnt anything up electronic, (so far). Rob

  20. The trailer is headed home right now. The price quoted to drag it home was less expensive than I could drive at twice the mpg the truck would get. This is a private individual that only hauls cars, boats, campers and such all over the country and lives in his truck. He has a load to move back east in Indy and I'm about 150 miles west of there, so works well for everyone involved. Final cost is .83 per loaded mile to my doorstep. I told him to throw something on the deck to make a little money if he could. I don't know if he found something to haul or not. Joseph Equipment went over the trailer from front to rear and deemed it safe to travel so I'm comfortable. As fair as these folks have been there is no reason to doubt! Should arrive at my place on Wednesday. Photos hitched to the winch truck to follow if interested........... Rob

  23. I was 230 miles into an 1640 mile trip for a B73 Mack when I received the call the truck had been sold. I even sent a $1000.00 deposit a week prior. The seller sold it out from under me for $400.00 more than we had agreed upon. His justification: The buyer had cash in hand. Yes I was angry but do believe in "fate", so it's probably better I didn't wind up with that truck. Rob

  25. Be easy with the slide hammer as the fitting is at an angle and not straight up. I've seen several broken injectors from too much force being applied at an angle. One of my homade puller jigs goes around the injector body and pulls from the ears of the injector. There is no force applied to any threads this way but it takes about four minutes to get it all hooked up and aligned per injector. This started as part of an OTC two jaw puller. Rob
